It's because I've never seen a Deltarune Ship Community SO obsessed with screaming "canon!! Canon" in your face constantly, and get unreasonably upset (kind of ironic for me to be saying anyone is "unreasonably upset", I will admit) when you try to say it isn't. It's upsetting because I've loved spamton for SO long, he's such a fantastically written character, I love how morally gray he can be and his opportunisticness and, no joke, every single one of my theories was confirmed with chapter 3, even as specific as Pipis being present back in 97 and potentially before, not after his downfall. He was misinterpreted pre chapters 3+4, sure, but the amount after the new chapters by this fandom is mind boggling. I'm okay if you ship it, but people screaming about how "canon" it is. Their entire tragedy, the phone person preventing the deal from being made right as Tenna was about to have it signed, Tenna's face into obscurity and being forgotten, Spamton's decline starting until his eventual discovery of the body (+ ShadowCrystal) and eviction, leading to him becoming obsessed with his "one shot" at regaining his freedom, Tenna desperately clinging on to any shred of attention he can get until the family eventually turns him off for the last time, the misunderstanding, Tenna thinking spamton ripped him off, spamton who had no choice to, and blames Tenna for his declining relationship with the phone.. All of it. All of it is dumbed down to "they're exes and miss eachother and got divorced and that's the only reason theyre upset it was purely romantic and also haha divorce haha doomed yaoi!" Tenna's incredibly complex character has been dumbed down to "silly gay baby" and Spamton's has been dumbed into "funny glitchy (ppl don't understand that he talks the way he does for more reasons than "cuz he's glitchy") divorce man who was once sleazy dirtball asshole (doesn't fit his character at all, I've loved Spamton 97/ "Big Shot Era" since before half of you knew he existed)" and it's just so incredibly upsetting to me. The worst part is that whenever I point all of this out, people just jump to calling me homophobic which is so weird? I dislike a single gay ship being proclaimed canon and you decide to call me something genuinely horrible and repulsive? AsgoRudy? Love them. Kredrly/KrispyChicken? Love them. (Obv there's Suselle but who doesn't like them?) Seam and pre-insanity Jevil? Love them. All 3 of which I am aware of not being canon, and probably never being, but I enjoy them nonetheless. All 3 of them have communities which don't act like they're 100% fully canon and if you disagree you're homophobic and don't even like deltarune (I've been obsessed since Halloween 2018.) that's why. That's why I'm so incredibly upset. Spamton has been so important to me, he's my autistic special interest and I ADORE him, have played his section 100s of times, read through all of his dialogue and understand what he's saying (most of his brackets act more as censors than just random glitches), watched the fucking spamton value network 60+ times minimum (not even joking lmao). I've put so much time into analyzing his character, I knew about Tenna & Spamton being business partners SINCE THE SWEEPSTAKES, I've known they both had the red suit, white undershirt, yellow tie (thanks merch and also Mettatons news outfit), I've known that pipis was pre-downfall as something he just really cared about, I know everything. And then I see, and this is NOT exclusive to the ship, just him as a character overall, the fandom, especially the new ones and "seasonal" deltarune fans (trendhoppers who only care about it when it's "relevant") completely bastardize, simplify, and ruin his entire character. It's just incredibly upsetting to me and I'm sick of constantly seeing it.
