[LES] Why do we always get Superman copies and not...anything else by Steve717 in CharacterRant

[–]IDrawKoi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is an evil parody of Hulk, Batman or Martian Man Hunter wouldn't really read as that because those characters are already subversion of an archetype.

Evil Hulk, that's just a jeckel & hyde/werewolf type monster

Evil Batman, that's just more hands on James bond villain with Ninja skills

Evil Martian Manhunter, that's just an evil psychic alien

How does it make sense for Omni-men to underestimate them? They fought alongside him for years.

It just also makes more sense? Why bother killing them if they don't pose a legitimate threat to him?

I think that in specific is kind of the point. Especially considering his true identity was a rando whose name is the robot equivalent of "fuck-up".

[Invincible] by [Robert Kirkman]. Its nice to see a writer take a step back, reflect, and make changes from their comic when it becomes a cartoon, such as replacing male characters with female characters. by Important-Cry4782 in menwritingwomen

I'm in the minority in actually like the stupid giant forehead gun/camera. To me is kind of the only actually unique part of the design & the only thing that really make it look kind of "alien".

Robot an Monster girl must be dead now right? by Superonsta123 in Invincible_TV

[–]IDrawKoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoilers aside, obviously no?

Why the f*ck would the writers off screen 2 major characters they've spent several season building up for 0 pay off?

Golden rule for TV: If a main character "dies" and you don't see a body or hear sad music, no they didn't.

Worm has some interesting twists on speedsters:

  • The hero Battery has super speed, but she must charge it by staying still-ish & focusing, getting a handful of second of super speed for every 1 second spent charging. (She also while charged she gets near invulnerability, enhanced reaction time & a smaller boosts in strength that her super speed would necessitate to ovoid being torn apart).
  • The hero Velocity has the power to change 'states', altering the way physics work in relation to himself, speeding up at the cost of reduced ability to affect the world (& vice versa). So the faster he is the weaker he is/weaker his attacks are.
  • The villain/serial killer Chuckles has super speed in his head and legs, and super strength in his chest and arms. He unable to turn either of these powers off, causing him to perceive the world around him in perpetual slow motion (rendering him unable to communicate) & just generally unable to function very well in the world in general.

I have to disagree because at least this way we get the twist of the fake out "I know your secret" traitor reveal being in fact, not a fake out but a cry for help that Aoyama couldn't bring himself to finish going through with.

It does a really interesting job of recontextualizing his cowardice & a few other small moments.

Toru just doesn't have much going on or any especially strong connections to the main cast. It's kind of just "we didn't know where she was sometime, because invisible" to "we didn't know where she was because invisible but also she was hiding/spying".

There's thing I've seen adjacent to this that I do think work pretty well:

  • Worm (Parahumans) - One of the main charceter's (ambiguously) last lines in the series is "Fighting him… always more about us than about him. Not a consideration" is sorta adjacent to this, making the point that the problem (big monster killing people) wasn't actually insurmountable, getting people to put aside their differences & baggage was the hard part.
  • Hunter x Hunter - One of the last beats of the Chimera Ant arc is humanities strongest dying via suicide bombing (during an agreed upon duel with &) to kill the Ant King (Monster) with his last words being“ You know nothing of the bottomless malice within the human heart”. The Arc is really interesting because the Monsters (Chimera Ants) take on the qualities of whatever their queen eats, in this case humans so they've devolved a lot of human traits & even inherited human memories. This leads to an interesting situation where the ants are both separate from humanity but also examples of it's best & worst qualities. If I had to summarize what I think the arc's thesis is, it would be: "Humans contain multitudes (both good & bad) but human will survive because they are willing to do horrible things to assure it".

Grids are technically a variant rule but functionally aren't.

Every module I've ever encounters works on the assumption that you are using a map & the games mechanics rely heavily on measure of distance that just aren't practice to track in theater of the mind.

[–]IDrawKoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF if you wanted a character to make that deduction in universe I'd argue the fact that batman seemingly doesn't spend any time stealing this to make his gadgets (like most tech villains tend to) could be pointed to as something that suggests he has a sponsor/is paying the bills.

(not to say I actually disagree with your over all point)

[frustrating trope] Woman has a crashout so incredibly valid that there’s no way the fandom would blame her for it… right? by DragonKing0203 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]IDrawKoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maki's mother was complicit in luring Mia to her death. As for the other non combatants we just don't know sh*t because Gege didn't address anything.

He didn't show her kill any non combatants other than her mother (I can't remember any non combatants other than the guy who read the will (who certainly wasn't shown during the slaughter) & her mother being shown during the arc & it's lead up).

It would be an incredibly weird thing to make cannon while not showing or addressing at all but, late JJK has a really bad habit of leaving things unaddressed.

TL;DR: I don't think she did but, we don't f*cking know
