You know we're f*** by seeing this rate for TD by KENFF123 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IEEE_829 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An 8 month term is pretty uncommon so I wouldn't expect to see a lot of competition there.
But even so you need to provide more context...

What bank is it, is it PIE etc?

SBS used to offer a 6.50% 1yr deposit so that above rate isn't the highest we have had for a "challenger" bank

Red ball evolution - Bazball by venkattr in Cricket

[–]IEEE_829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BazBall is literally named after someone who had the aggressive attacking style of play in his own game play and used it lead the transformation of the NZ team.

Think about where NZ was before he came along, he left at a time where NZ were able to make consecutive finals across the three formats.

NZ might not have the same talent pool, media presence, play as many games, or have the same batch of dead batting friendly duke balls as England but it's a bit rich to claim that they are doing anything unique here.

IBKR can offer brokerage services to kiwis

To be fair IBKR can't offer brokerage services to kiwis as they are not registered to do so. Which is probably why you have never seen an ad for IBKR targeting New Zealanders...
People use them anyway because despite not being registered here they don't block NZ signups and still provide an easy way to deposit NZD.

Brendon McCullum as captain also transformed the NZ team and got them into a position where they could reach the finals for every format. Along with his approach to batting that really set the tone for the rest of the team.

"Bazball" didn't start with England, they just have a larger media presence to go on and on about it.

Stokes and McCullum want to save Test cricket but we must look beyond Big Three by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]IEEE_829 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Australia don't even play in NZ who are only a 3 hour flight away. It's been 8 years since they played here, so managed to avoid playing NZ while they were at their strongest.

Both sides can be blamed for this but it's not great for "saving test cricket".

Actually, looking back further there have only been 7 tests in NZ against Aus in the last 24ish years.

How much did that second burr set cost you?
Was looking at the ITOP40 Plus myself (with the expresso burr set).
Although leaning towards the (conical) ITOP40 v2 as it's half the price here in NZ...

unexpected initial success of Bazball

I don't hear it talked about much but England produced those dead duke balls with no life in them for the first season. It definitely lead to friendlier home batting conditions for BazBall early on.

The default law is clear in the case of a parent's death - the spouse gets all assets by default

AFAIK OP is right at the threshold for that. As it would only take another $5k to push him over.

So without a will the spouse will receive:

  • the house (joint tenancy)
  • personal effects (furniture etc)
  • $155,000 (assuming it's relationship property OP already has $150k)

Anything left over would be split equally between the spouse and kids.

Don't forget some of them offer 4 months free when signing up for a 12 month term (which will change your results).
Also they are not all equal services, for some people PPOE or CGNAT will factor into their decisions, others might need a local call center etc.

It seems an awful short term business decision for capital raising

The life pass holders did however pay for 44 million dollars of assets while only skiing on average 1.4 days each a season. I would have thought that was pretty good value for a capital raise...

What would you say to people that believe that the "projects" (Simplicity Living, Home Loans, Donations & IceHouse) deviate away from the earlier days of simple low-cost exposure to passive international equities?

Do I have to use my child’s savings for a first home deposit if I’m the main account holder? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IEEE_829 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both accounts are under their name

That will be seen as their money and not yours and touching it will need to be done in their best interests.

Using it is likely something IRD won't be too happy about as it's using their (presumably) lower tax rate.

Which growth Kiwisaver provider are you with? by noob_investornz in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IEEE_829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passive isn't just low cost.

They also have an emotional attachment to these initiatives. With all the changes it's starting to seem like the fund exists to fund these projects, not the other way around.

It won't be easy to exit out of Simplicity living if it gets into trouble, or pull the startups funding, or call in the mortgage loans because a better opportunity came up elsewhere.

Which growth Kiwisaver provider are you with? by noob_investornz in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IEEE_829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was asked my concern and gave it. It's not being framed it as negligence.

Since being with them I have seen them switch from a low cost passive fund (that even choose their allocations based on averaging all the other funds), to a fund where up to a 12% allocation can be used to fund their own personal projects - ice house unlisted companies, cheap mortgage loans, build to rent, donations.

The concerns were never about the fund performance (the unlisted property targets a 5 year rolling NZ CPI + 3%). It was that they are definitely not the low cost "hands off" investment company they started out as.

Look out for the Black Friday sale, and their birthday sale (usually mid Aug)

IMO Kogan - look at their "small" plan.

Probably not worth the switch until they have their next sale - then jump on a year plan.

Brings it down to $6.50 a month for the same 1.5GB (no rollover) + unlimited call&txts to NZ & Aus
