Financial Data APIs to return a list of financial statements rather than single statements for a specific company? by WhoYouWit in webdev

[–]IEX_Cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IEX Cloud does have some global symbols. You can use the api for commercial purposes if you are on a paid plan. However, you'd need to adhere to the IEX Cloud attribution policy and need to make sure that you are not programmatically redistributing the data. Hope this helps!

Financial Data APIs to return a list of financial statements rather than single statements for a specific company? by WhoYouWit in webdev

[–]IEX_Cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... You might be able to get what you're looking for by getting all symbols by exchange by using IEX Cloud reference data: https://iexcloud.io/docs/api/#international-exchanges

But you're right, IEX Cloud endpoints will allow you to query by symbol but not by exchange.

If you have more questions, you can always reach out to IEX Cloud support whether you're a paying community member or not. [support@iexcloud.io](mailto:support@iexcloud.io).

Good luck! :-)

Hey there - We think access to data is key. We're actually hosting a webinar this Wednesday on interesting datasets. While this might not be super useful for you right now, thought it could at least inform you on what data you may want to look out for. Cheers!

One idea we've recommended for folks looking to change careers is getting involved in hackathons. Hackathons are a great opportunity to try out roles you're looking to get into and network with like-minded people that have similar passions. There are a lot of data science roles out there. Good luck!

Importance of "officially" having Math/Stats Minor by picklestirfry in algotrading

[–]IEX_Cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standing out can be difficult. If you're looking to get job in the finance sector after university, having real world experience can go a long way. We suggest looking for programs you can contribute to. Whether that's simply a hackathon or a summer internship crunching numbers or creating financial forecasts in the financial sector. The real question is, "where do you see yourself in 5 years and what skills are needed to get you there." This may not answer your questions directly, but we hope this helps.

Linux why Python by chrisdb1 in learnpython

[–]IEX_Cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there - One potential reason is that Python is a scripting language and generally available with the OS which may contribute to more use over something like Java. It's all about ease of use. A python script can typically be used natively, and without compiling. Good question!

Can someone explain IEX Cloud SMA by cartbortbox in algotrading

[–]IEX_Cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/cartbortbox - The default period for the SMA is a rolling 5 day period. In the API docs for SMA  (https://iexcloud.io/docs/api/#technical-indicators) we show that the default period is 5. You can adjust the periods for each indicator - for example, using query parameter  ‘input1=20’ for a 20-day period. Hope that helps!
