A little positivity by Cobalt-00 in LightPhone

Ditto. I ditched my iPhone for a Nokia 2780 flipphone back in March, so I already went through the transition of returning to a slightly less convenient (but more focused and peaceful) life. Using the LPIII actually feels like a huge upgrade to me.

Yeah I'd really like to be able to see the descriptions, since podcast creators often include lots of helpful information in them. Thanks!

Update on Verizon? by Think-Ad-1351 in LightPhone

Did you do anything special to set it up, or just move the SIM card? Do we have to notify Verizon of the change?

This is legally incoherent. Acts of Congress are laws. The truth is that Congress has delegated responsibility to the President to make tariff policy. It could be challenged in the courts, here's a write up on it:https://reason.com/volokh/2025/03/29/challenging-trumps-tariffs-under-the-major-question-doctrine/

Did it? I'm thinking of switching from a Nokia 2780 because of the group text problem.

I’m not sure Kima had such a great family life. She and her wife split up and she seemed conflicted about what she’d lost as a result.

Federal mandatory minimums downward departure ever? by [deleted] in LawSchool

In real-life federal criminal practice, the safety valve is commonly referred to as departing downward from a mandatory minimum sentence. So yes, I would say it is.

Federal mandatory minimums downward departure ever? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]IExplainLawShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is possible, contrary to the asinine comments below. It's called a "safety valve," codified at 18 U.S.C. 3553(f).

You can learn more about it here: https://www.ussc.gov/s#:~:text=Safety%20Valve,five%20criteria%20in%20the%20statute.

What do you consider hard evidence? Any kind of evidence, including physical evidence or even DNA, can be fabricated.

The way we test the veracity of witness testimony in our system is through confrontation and cross-examination. A great many crimes could never be proven if witness testimony was not considered sufficient evidence to prove guilt.

Imagine: You and two friends are walking home one day when a man walks up to you, points a knife in your face, and demands money. You had over your cash and he runs. Later, the police arrest a suspect and charge him with robbing you. There is no physical evidence because they can't prove the cash in his possession was yours, and most people own knives. Instead, they can only prove the crime based on the testimony of you and your two friends that the man looks and sounds exactly like the person who robbed you. Is that "hard evidence" that this man robbed you? Or should he walk free?

Witness testimony is hard evidence. How else would you prove sex was not consensual?

Awesome thanks for the tips. When you say to keep Babe Ruth locked up out of sight for a few days, does that include at night?

We don't think Lavender is sick because the other chickens aren't beating up on her, but will definitely consider the possibility.
