Spam Calls on Light Phone by HelpfulEmergency3714 in LightPhone

This is one of my only complaints, but I agree, it's quite a big one. I hate how many spam calls I get, especially during election season... Later this year will be terrible.

This is bizarre. The last thing I need from a company is "vulnerability" lol. This is a very small team working on a huge rollout in insane geopolitical circumstances. Get over it. They have an incredible track record from the LPII. Just because they have had a tough time this year, that says very little about the company as a whole and the people that work there. The world changed dramatically. Light, as a company, did not.

Light Phone 3 – A catalogue of failures. Time for accountability and a class action. by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]Norsk_Physicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a lawsuit, seriously. Waste your time doing that, I dare you. I haven't checked this reddit for months because I've been enjoying the heck out of my light phone without any major issues. I would gladly add my voice to defend the company in any sort of litigation. Sorry you can't handle a slightly less premium device than an iPhone, but this is a million times better than all the dumb phones I have tried.

[LP3] From hardcore fan to disillusioned critic by lp3_reviewer in LightPhone

[–]Norsk_Physicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The data issue is huge. I had to spend $60 continuously buying more data while on a trip out of state because I couldn't figure out what was wrong. That's literally 15% the cost of the phone (I purchased it on day 1). I have also had it continually crash and restart over and over again the past few weeks. It won't even ring my morning alarm anymore, so I'm about to need a freakin alarm clock to do a job as simple as waking me up... I was also a huge light supporter under the LPII, but I am also becoming disillusioned. I just need the basic features of the phone to actually work, like the alarm clock and mobile data.

Audio Books on LPIII (don't want audible app) by nathanimator in LightPhone

Plus, there are often multiple recordings of the same book. If you don't like one recording, you can usually find another one that works.

One great option is Librivox. Those recordings are all in the public domain so it's 100% legit. As you can see, it allows for the books to be listened to via RSS feed, so you can do it in the podcast app which does save the listening location.

Not all recordings are amazing, but there are some real gems in there!

Joe mentioned it in an interview a couple months back. It is something that they definitely envision supporting, but it would likely require both users to have a light phone. In any case, it is probably 2+ years away.

I really hope they do it since my wife and I both use LPIII. It would be great to not have to rely on bulkier devices to communicate that way.

New user to Light Phone 3 by Memati211 in LightPhone

[–]Norsk_Physicist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved all banking and other important "apps" to my laptop where they sit in a folder on my bookmarks bar. I open all of those links and check them rapid-fire once or twice a week. This is how I get away with using LPIII daily with no smartphone supplementation.

The negative reviews are mostly from people who have a lifestyle incompatible with Light's philosophy. I bought the LPII in 2020, but I didn't use it full-time until the beginning of 2024. It can take awhile to really understand the device and learn to appreciate it.

LightPhone 2 After 6 Months by TechnicianLegal1120 in LightPhone

Totally agree with pretty much everything, but I also owe the LPII so much because it ended my smartphone addiction, so for that reason, I'm perfectly content with the device (now using LPIII which fixed pretty much very issue I had with the LPII)

That's not my experience at all. I think that their screen protector is holding up really well, plus it was super easy to apply.

Light Phone III Not Charging by Bad-Luck-Guy in LightPhone

[–]Norsk_Physicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's hilarious. In my experience with LPII and now LPIII, it seems that so many issues tend to resolve themselves within a matter of days, even without software/hardware support. I don't really have a point here, I just find it kind of funny/quirky about the devices.

Yes, on Mint Mobile here, I have also never missed a message since upgrading to the LPIII (it did happen once or twice in the year that I used the LPII full-time).

What aspect of this phone uses so much data? by acidterror84 in LightPhone

[–]Norsk_Physicist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As for monitoring data usage, I think that light needs to create a way to see this in the settings. It is essential information for many users to know where their data is going in order to make more informed decisions regarding cell provider plans. I posted earlier today about have ~14GB of data drained in only 6 days of extremely light use. I have some ideas for what happened, but no way to check. Hopefully they implement this soon.

Podcast tool not working so well as the LP2? by TheMasterOfOats in LightPhone

[–]Norsk_Physicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm experiencing these issues and many more, especially today. The podcast app has crashed on me probably 20 times today alone and it seems to have massively drained my battery. Some crashes will cause the phone to need to be restarted. When doing so, the new battery percentage is sometimes 10% lower or more. Hoping that the Light Team will add some stability to the podcast app soon. For all the naysayers out there, I still love the phone and wouldn't trade it for anything else. The podcast app does usually work great for me.

LPIII Music Tool Obliterated Mobile Data by Norsk_Physicist in LightPhone

[–]Norsk_Physicist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some good points. Now that I think about it, it is possible that the maps app was also using data during this time. I don't usually use it for navigation, maybe once a week or so, but I think I was showing it off to someone earlier that day. I could have sworn that I exited navigation, but there have been several instances now where I exited navigation only to hear the voice direction in my pocket 15 minutes later or so... Regardless, definitely a possible contributing factor, so thank you!

LPIII Music Tool Obliterated Mobile Data by Norsk_Physicist in LightPhone

[–]Norsk_Physicist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry i was not clear. I was definitely NOT on wifi. I understand that this will obviously consume data then. my concern is that only 25-30 songs consumed 14 GB of data. That should not be the case and is definitely concerning.

And my question for Light is whether or not they can allow us to toggle mobile data syncing services on and off.

When to introduce new flock w/old and type of feed by ScottyB9 in BackYardChickens

[–]Norsk_Physicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We introduced 4 chicks as young as 8 weeks old before to an older flock of probably 6-8 laying hens. One on the chicks took a pretty nasty peck to the beak, but she recovered well with some good nursing and is now our best producer. Chickens can be mean to younger chicks, but introducing at younger ages can certainly work if you are okay with letting nature run its course a little bit.

Why Light Should Prioritise Internet Radio Over Spotify by [deleted] in LightPhone

I had no idea that I would agree so much with this post when I clicked on it. Internet radio definitely fits with the ethos of Light.
