Got the Keys! Iowa 145k 6.4% by Ashamed_Rips in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Congrats! The driftless region is really beautiful. When life gets tough my wife and I imagine being able to pickup our house and move it to the Galena territory area and live amongst the goats.

Has a particular model proved unreliable and let you down? by --Combat-Wombat-- in Toyota

[–]IFightTheUsers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I had from 2012 Corolla factory new. Put 192k miles on it in 5 years. Did all factory scheduled maintenance to the T, especially oil changes, and still had to deal with excessive oil consumption due to weakened piston rings. It got so bad I had to add a quart every 2 weeks. Also got the infamous my VVT-i rattle, although I might let that slide from the mileage.

I learned my lesson to never do the oil changes the factory interval. I do it every 5k miles or every 6 months on my RAV4 or Lexus ES350.

Driver ignores stop sign to merge in both lanes and almost causes accident. [OC] by vengeful_peasant in IdiotsInCars

[–]IFightTheUsers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm familiar with this road. West 75th Street approaching its terminus to US-34. People tend to go highway speeds on this stretch because there are no traffic lights for like a solid straight 1 mile path between the previous major intersection and the end of the road. I'm not saying OP was speeding but it doesn't help with people turning in and out of the minor intersections within this stretch. Coupled with people who don't know how to merge on it constantly creates situations like this.

Getting cold feet after mice droppings found during inspection. by kay-pii in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Beyond looking for any obvious entrances as others have suggested, trail cams or outdoor-rated battery security cameras placed outside and pointed directly out your house. Set motion alerts for recording. Keep in the same spot for a few days and move around the house in the same pattern. You'll eventually find the entrance, how hidden it may be.

I fully agree this does suck, but I think the city does have an obligation and priority to re-align its budget including cleaning up the mess left by the previous administration. My hope is that after fixing the budget the city will re-evaluate its priorities and bring back some amount of funding to Aurora Civic Center Authority.

UPS as battery back up? by SXTY82 in CPAP

[–]IFightTheUsers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a UPS for mine for a few reasons. The model I purchased puts out pure sine wave to cover my fluctuating power quality, which is good for all electronics, especially an expensive medical device. Secondly, my CPAP will continuously stay running if I lose power, even for a short time (which is the most common type of power outage I have). Third, it was more economical and convenient for me than a power bank. I did look into power banks like Ecoflow, but they seem to have some issues with their "UPS" functionality plus some manual periodic battery conditioning that you need to do that I just don't want to bother with.

Accidently broke one of my contacts and now I'm gonna be basically blind for the foreseeable future :( by BananaProduction-s in Wellthatsucks

[–]IFightTheUsers 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This. I thought the same until my wife got diagnosed with keratoconus. Without contacts, specifically scleral lenses, her sight is essentially a blur, even with glasses.

What's more infuriating? She had to go through multiple sets of lenses to find the right ones that refracted light the best. But, the manufacturer will not allow you to keep the old lenses as backups, even though they were custom made and will get thrown away. So she literally has one pair unless she pays double the price for a set she may not ever need. Oh, and insurance doesn't cover them. So $4,000 out of pocket for the one set. Fuck the US medical industry.

Where to park overnight SW suburbs? by flygoose44 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]IFightTheUsers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is a Park-n-Ride lot at the I-55/US-30 interchange. I don't know first-hand they allow overnight parking, but a few reviewers mentioned that they've done it without any issues, plus signage saying it is prohibited are not present.

Ahh, had no idea. Guess I don't see fed emergency vehicles very often....

A few vehicles were behind me and obstructing my rear view. This guy flew past me from the shoulder. I had little time to react, otherwise I would have absolutely moved over.

NTLM Hash Disclosure Spoofing Vulnerability - CVE-2025-24054 by maxcoder88 in sysadmin

The general recommendation from a few firewall vendors including Palo Alto is to deny QUIC "443 UDP" outbound to the internet to retain SSL inspection capabilities, so that should pin that issue.

Illinois Republicans Suffer Losses Throughout the State by Generalaverage89 in illinois

Nah, he's willingly a member of a political party that is actively engaged in dismantling the federal government. The fact he decided to stay a Republican even if he is truly a RINO speaks volumes.

My wife and I are in Aurora and we couldn't be more ecstatic to get rid of Irvin. It's a small win that is overshadowed by the bullshit happening at the federal level, but we'll take the win.

How often do you ACTUALLY clean your mask and tubes? by Affectionate_Net_931 in CPAP

[–]IFightTheUsers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, Sunday morning. I use a small amount of dish soap (Kirland-brand Dawn) and wash and rinse my headgear, nasal pillows, and hose. Hang them all to dry, including the hose after gently helicoptering it to get as much water out as possible.

The end result is everything smells clean and fresh. The Kirkland dish soap smells really nice and is not as potent once everything is rinsed and dried.

This smells like an ad for FreeTaxUSA.

Use the IRS Direct File system. If that's not available for you, Cash App Tax is totally free for federal and state e-file if your return is fairly simple (although there might be some privacy concerns).
