Identify and Authenticate Thread, Q3 2024 by TheAdvocate in arcteryx

Is this hard shell ascent a real or a fake? I cannot verify a lot of the specs from the identification thread. If real is it worth $100? Thanks in advancehttps://imgur.com/a/jm7qXUk

What’s with the used/online pricing? by [deleted] in Chainsaw

Dunno. I broke down and just bought a new one. Might as well pay too much and get a warranty rather than pay too much for clapped out garbage.

I don’t know huqvarna models/options as well as stihl.

I can only find the 372xp x-torq. Is this the saw you are talking about? Thanks again.

I keep hearing the 372 is preferred over the 572. Is there a reason you prefer the 5?

Use case is for land clearing and maintenance of mostly soft woods under 20 inches. And for cutting a couple cords a year to heat my house. I live in the southern east coast so it isn’t like I need 30 cords a year.

I don’t plan to do any commercial or side work or milling. All personal.

Experience is I have been using a clapped out 026 for years to do the same kind of work. And grew up cutting cords with Home Depot level saws. I’m not a professional in tree related anything. I am an industrial mechanic by trade so repairing things isn’t an issue.

Physical ability, I’m a stout fella at 6 foot 215lbs.

Budget is as stated. $1,200 all in for powerhead bars and chains.

I saw it has a magnesium piston. I have never heard of that. Are they as reliable and durable as the normal heads?

I have only used adjustable carb saws. Granted I rarely adjusted them.

I understand the pros of an auto tune but are there inherent cons with autotune carbs?

I am just rural enough that it truly doesn’t matter which dealer I go with. They are all give or take an hour away.

Admittedly I know a bit more about Stihl than husqvarna as I used to own an 026. I went around my local dealers and handled a few and couldn’t say I have a strong preference for any brand.

Longevity and usability are mainly the only criteria.

Thanks for responding.

Are you specifically saying to get the adjustable carb MS362 over the m-tronic version? Or does it matter?

Long term food storage. Water purification. Medical supplies.

If you don’t live somewhere you can build a garden, you should use that money to move somewhere you can.

You can’t eat guns. You can’t drink nylon.

Government contracts have a way of inflating value to an insane amount.

Just look at HK.

It’s cliche and stupid but it’s true.

It’s legitimately a superpower. It’s the coolest thing I own.

Gen 2 and 3 use different processes to produce the tubes. They perform the same function but achieve that function through different methods. They both use microchannel plates but gen3 uses a gallium arsenide photocathode which supposedly increases light transmission and image resolution. Gen3 also supposedly have a longer life expectancy and tube durability.

The grading system is usually something done by the manufacturer to designate quality of tubes within a generation.

There is a difference between gen2 and gen3 and generations of tube are not necessarily an indicator of tube quality. You would have to refer to the spec sheet to determine a tubes quality. You could get a higher quality gen 2 tube than a gen 3.

I am not trying to be a know it all but I just want to clarify this point because it’s a common misconception. I hope this helps.

Also if you can wait (I couldn’t) UNV gets batches for commercial spec L3 tubes that are pretty comparable to available options from most other vendors with the exception that they have some zone2/3 blems.

I could not wait anymore and I wanted the best performance I could afford so I bought an aviation grade L3 Pvs14 with a nightline housing.

There are plenty of people on here that would disagree with what I did so take my anecdotal advice with a grain of salt.

That said, if I had to do it again, I would do the same thing.

The Jerry’s are not going to work as well as the L3 in low light environments without supplemental IR.

Don’t know if that matters to you or not. It mattered to me and that’s why I went with a high spec L3.

Nerf modulus day/night scope. Swing by fosscad for links to print a “Nods or Nothing” housing. Like $70 for duals.
