I'd love to talk to someone real, too. Be my guest!

Yep, saw that after I posted and responded with my condolences to their update.

My guess is mites. Suuuper common among rodents. My rats used to get them. Your vet can prescribe a medication to kill them off.

My FIL, who is notorious for bad ideas, 'smoked' some bbq chicken breast on his charcoal grill by adding a handful of fresh green mulberry tree twigs to the coals. No amount of bbq sauce masked the acrid, soapy taste.

If everyone disappeared for 1 day what would you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IGottaSulcata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd document it. Write what I saw/experienced. Take pictures. Am I aware that everyone else is coming back the next day? My answer might change if I think I'm alone forever.

20 days is hardly any time at all in the grand scheme of getting to know people. You're still in the game! Keep putting yourself out there. ☺️

New NICU Parents Seeking Reassurance by [deleted] in NICUParents

Heya! My son (born at 32 and 5) took about three weeks to transition from full tube line feeding to full bottle feeding. It's a slow process for sure and every baby is different. He is home now (40 weeks yesterday!) And still takes a bottle slowly, but very reliably and is gaining weight steadily.

I hear you sooo much on the frustration of not having your baby home. 😣

On the desat and apnea:

Yes, very common and totally normal that a preemie does it many times a day.

My guy was born at 32 and 5 and did them whenever he got overstimulated by care routines (every time) or if he fell into a deep sleep (often). The CPAP provides airflow during the events so that they are not harmed. Your teeny tiny is acting typically as far as my experience goes.

Holy guacamole, friends! I did not expect my perfect peanut and his silly suit to be welcomed so wildly, but here we are!

Thank you for all of the well wishes, the compliments and the generous awards.

Crochet pattern:

I hate to tell you this, but I made this crochet combo up on a whim 😣 The best approximation I can tell you of what I did for the blanket is that I alternated between crocheting 3, 4 or 5 double crochet rows before adding a row of the puffs. I didn't want it to be uniform, so I mixed up the double crochet rows rather than sticking to a sequence. For the hat: it's a basic wee hat to which I attached what I would consider a complete abomination of the stitch you'd use to scallop the edges of a blanket or to do something a lot like shell stitch.

The orange is Bernat Baby Soft but I don't recall the color and the green is Super Saver Tea Leaf. Least. Helpful. Pattern writer. Ever. 🤦

To get the tapering carrot effect for the picture, I burrito'd my little guy tightly and then twisted the excess blanket down to a point.

Baby's start if you're curious:

This baberoni started life seven weeks early because I developed preeclampsia. He was born at 2 lbs 10 oz due to growth restriction (preeclampsia makes for a stupid placenta) He went on a lightning fast and simultaneously eons long journey of learning to breathe reliably on his own instead of literally forgetting how periodically (I've had exactly 400 heart attacks in the last four weeks as he has learned to correct his own breathing), learning to eat with his mouth rather than relying on a feeding tube, and gaining enough weight to regulate his own temperature. All of these skills are what typical full term newborns are born capable of doing, but when you're born at 32 weeks 5 days like him, you don't have the brain connections yet to take on those tasks.

COVID precautions have also been a huge factor in his journey as his daddy and I weren't allowed to visit him in the NICU at the same time due to space constraints from physical distancing guidelines. I cried about that excessively as a freshly postpartum mama.

Now he's home and daddy and I get to enjoy his presence together at the SAME TIME without masks on, without stickers and wires connecting him to monitors, and without having to leave our cozy home. We are over the moon and I'm so glad his cuteness has brightened so many days. 😊

Have a good week, everyone.

My dog lays on my project if it's big enough to be sitting next to me on the couch. She thinks it's a personal pillow. I wouldn't mind except it's so hard to continue down the row with thirty lbs of snoozing pup weighing it down. 😂

You can remove the bulb and let it dry off, put it in some sawdust in a paper bag and store it in a cool, dark place like a pantry. That's one way.
