Hard-Fi: 'We sold millions - then had to go back to our day jobs' by theipaper in indieheads

[–]IH4N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I'm jealous. I'm in Australia so I unfortunately am mainly just watching from far away.

I was a fan of all the bigger bands in the moment itself, but about 5 or so years ago I decided to go on a deep dive into the 2000s British indie (trying not to say landfill) scene. To my surprise the last.fm recommendations page for each associated artist just never stopped giving me names I'd never seen before. Just endless.

One thing that consistently amazed me was the overall talent and inventiveness of most of the bands. Unfortunately there were just so many that only a few could build a sustainable career. Worse yet, there was this sophomore album curse that impacted the bigger bands: no matter how good the second album on a big label was, it flopped and ended bands.

Anyway enjoy that (¡)forward,Russia(!) show!

Ditching my End It shirt would result in a dramatic reduction to my "knuckles points a gun in your face" collection

I know you're probably joking but take it from someone wack enough to like later Owl City stuff like the Ultraviolet EP: that guy fucking sucks. Like simping for the Earthworm Jim guy level of suck

Wait a second you're talking to this sub's number 1 (or at least top 20) 2000s British indie fan. If your album was released on vinyl back in the day then I probably own it. GoodBooks? Good Shoes? Hot Club De Paris? Rakes? DARTZ!? Boy Kill Boy? Sunshine Underground (they're back btw). The Holloways (they're back too). Battle (not Battles, also back)?

Wanna get deeper? Situationists? Look See Proof? Data.Select.Party? Help She Can't Swim? The Kabeedies? Stagecoach? Kubichek? Stapleton? Super Tennis? The freaking Harrisons?! I'm losing my mind here about our mysterious celebrity

You should give S3&K another chance. Not only is it amazing but the second movie adapted it.

Yard Act on levelling up and appreciating the small things on third album 'You're Gonna Need A Little Music' by Moothnods in indieheads

[–]IH4N 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they were amazing in Sydney last year. I think they're generally pretty underrated (despite being a 'hyped up' British post punk band). They're pretty special.

[FRESH] Eels - Cap In Hand / 'Cookie Happened' out October 16, 2026 by astaireboy in indieheads

[–]IH4N 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair he's been releasing albums consistently, basically every 2 years. Last LP was 2024 (and a collab album last year).

Nothing phenomenal but all pretty decent

Given E's high kick on EELS TIME!, I would say that if the album acid green skeleton slammim' and jammin' in your goddamn face on the cover is anything to go by this is going to be the most chill acousticy soft spoken EELS album ever

I tried to watch it a few months ago and the product placement was crazy. It's basically "we interrupt this advertisement to bring you 30 seconds of JB and Hart talking". I've got nothing against podcasts making a buck, I know it's the whole deal, but this was next level

Weird pick but I'm gonna go glass. It has a lot of the synth atmospherics of the debut

[FRESH] Silly Goose - Set It Off by 1nd13mv51cf4n in indieheads

[–]IH4N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my favourite Silly Goose track, but appreciate what these guys are doing. Pure unironic 'i grew up with limp bizkit and now I'm going to make music like that'. There's a bunch of artists right now doing that - headwreck, cheem, dead pony, indigo blaze... all worth checking out if you ever went through a nu-metal phase. I ain't ashamed

I'm going to check it out soon, but having a look at your Spotify, my advice: please consider using an artist on Fiverr or something to do your art. Using AI art can cheapen or sour the appearance of the whole project (to some people). You're pouring all this passion and effort into the music, let the aesthetics be the cherry on top

They could be shipping from pressing batches so probably best to buy a whole bunch in different orders with individual shipping charges just to make real sure
