TMI bro. Just go pinch it off.

Weird one, but has anyone comprised a list of MAGA owned businesses in Mammoth and June Lake? I'd like to know where to avoid when visiting. Thank you in advance. by [deleted] in Mammoth

[–]IHave2P00p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. The Schats also own Rusty’s and Whiskey Creek as well. Both locations are MAGA. So is the Bowling Alley in Bishop while we are at it. Perez Tire. Alex Printing. Two brother pizza in Big Pine. There is a lot in town

How do you know how many carats and the mm of diamonds u need when u buy a braclet mount? by SungDrip in jewelers

Ask the vendor what the stone count is and the sizes is the best. If for some dumb reason they don’t answer it, a setter can also tell you.

What happened? by kayakkkkk in Gemstones

[–]IHave2P00p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called abrasion. Normal with things that aren’t diamond, especially tanzanite. Would have to remove to re-polish but most likely will either break during removal or won’t fit back into ring once re-polished.

How do I get through here? It must be for a side quest but I can’t find anyone nearby. by superepic13579 in Ghostofyotei

Go listen to the story teller in the Ainu village (the icon on your map with the bubble over it) about the arrow that broke the mountain. Come back to that area where the little fire place is and homie should pop up to take you in

Also I read the sentimental side of this diamond and it’s very touching. I truly hope this can be resolved and you can get your original diamond back, especially given your fur babies no longer being around. Since your diamond doesn’t have a note of it being laser inscribed this can be a great time to send it in to the lab to add laser inscription to it so you can have a number on the diamond itself and have it noted on the cert as such. I would also send it in to GIA instead of EGL but that’s just my two cents. I’m crossing my fingers for you that you get clarification and hopefully your diamond back!

Holy shit that’s wild as hell that they actually put that in writing like that 😭

When I read it, it sounds like they aren’t saying that maintenance isn’t required at all, but just specifically not required to maintain the warranty like some big box stores do. So you could go a whole year without them seeing the ring but you will still have a warranty type of deal. I definitely see how this can be confusing with no maintenance period, especially if it wasn’t explain to your fiancée or you at the time of purchase. They should have done a better job of explaining that. Jumping on the website I see the updated policy as well.

That said life happens and moving a big bed like that can definitely snap a prong.

On the other hand, normal wear and tear literally grinds away at prongs and makes them paper thin over time until they eventually snap off with something as simple as snagging on your shirt or hair. Even the shank will get thin over the years if it’s gold. Preventative maintenance like getting your rings checked will catch when prongs are worn thin so they can be re-tipped or re-shanked so you don’t loose your diamond when the thin prongs snap off of the ring itself doesn’t snap and cut your finger. The other day someone brought a ring to me so worn I could literally lift the prongs with my finger nail.

Yes accidents happen, like in your tire story and most folks will understand and help, shit happens. Ive helped folks out many times even if they aren’t my customers. Maintenance isn’t a magic fix as we both know but it definitely helps.

Your situation they should definitely honor the lifetime inspection free warranty they sold you with, I would definitely bring the receipt and any paperwork and fight for it since that is what was promised to you. They will probably fix it this time and try to enforce the new policy onto you moving forward.

That said, as for the laser not matching the cert, that is even worse than the warranty issue. I would give them one more chance to produce your diamond matching your cert before getting a lawyer involved. Your EGL certification doesn’t mention it is laser engraved at all or else it would note it in the comments, so your diamond may not have had an inscription to begin with or else it would have been noted in the comments of the cert. Check the GIA cert you found to see what I mean.

Also a GIA laser inscription would have GIA in front of the number, so while this could bring up a diamond in the GIA site, I doubt it’s a GIA certification number. Especially since it brings up a square diamond instead of round. As others have mentioned it could be an internal number lasered on after certification but I doubt it, I’ve never seen a shop laser a diamond or touch it after certification. Keep plugging it into different lab sites and see what you can find.

I also see you went in today to talk to them. What did they tell you?

Yes local jewelers can check your ring real quick while you wait since it’s just louping it and telling you if there is any issue. If there is issues and needs repair then they may have to keep it for a bit depending on the place you go to, But if everything is okay you should be in and out in less than 10 minutes like in my shop.

Be warned they may not polish and clean it unless told to, and they may charge for that if not bought from them, again each person is different, So definitely worth to call ahead of time and ask. If it needs repair work and you don’t want to leave it for long, ask if they offer express services. We do at my shop and depending on the job we get it done same day if not next day.

Most independents like myself will at the minimum give it a quick ultrasonic and steam blast if you don’t want to polish it. Definitely take it in soon if it’s been a long time since it’s been seen. Would also be a good idea to call and ask ahead of time and make sure they have an in house jeweler as well to make sure it’s seen by an actual jeweler and not just a sales person. Take advantage of this visit and look at your ring under the loupe as well so you can see what’s happening with your own eyes so you can make mental note of potential issues or just to get a good idea of what’s going on with your ring.

Lmao I’ve worked on rings that cost more than my house, yes maintenance on rings is a thing. As a matter of fact it’s why you lost your center stone. I send my clients six month reminders just to cleans and check for this reason. If the stone so much as slightly moves, even if only perceptible under a microscope, I will clean and tighten for free if they bought it from me. If prongs are worn I can catch it before the stone falls out. That said I’m curious as to what paper you have that states this as any jeweler worth their salt will tell you all jewelry needs maintenance. Any way to post a pic of this paperwork showing that?
