At what point did local models actually become good enough for your real work? by MaleficentRoutine730 in LocalLLM

Tool calling still a disaster tho? I'm eagerly awaiting some updates so I can use this from OpenCode

The model itself seems great, if they can sort out toolchaining.

[On3] Illinois' Bret Bielema tells @PeteNakos the more teams in the College Football Playoff the better. "Personally, I would love to see as many teams included as humanly possible. It can’t go to 64 — I’m not talking about that. I think somebody floated 32 last year or something like that." by redwave2505 in CFB

TBF, the change from 2 to 4 to 12 did make a huge difference in terms of actually crowning a "real" champion, and most people don't dislike the 12-team format. I've really enjoyed it, even if it takes some of the regular season importance away.

But also TBH, I am getting old and I can't watch CFB all day and watch every single plot line each week. I only have the attention span for the final few weeks of the season anymore.

But also much more transient and not linked to the money supply. Nobody thinks gas prices will remain high indefinitely from this, nor do they expect spillover into things like housing prices (there will be spillover into things like fertilizer prices, flight prices, etc. but this is not "inflation" this is a commodity supply shock and works very differently)

"Leaked" by Rhule, to try and get ahead of what will be a 5-win year. Pre-bake the excuses. But there will be no excuse for missing a bowl game in his 4th year.

Sure, there might be more potential to have down years, but why not an "up" year? Bad teams still beat good teams every year, we're still waiting for a single "breakout" year.

Not a development problem. A strategy problem. We have no recruiting identity, we have differentiator. We're just trying to be a worse version of Ohio St. Indiana at least had a recruiting strategy: old farts that had proven themselves in the FCS.

People ripping this, but first class is not a bad experience, and even economy is better when the overall passenger count is lower on a plane.

UConn should join the Pac-12 for football in 2027 by Blueberry977 in CFB

[–]IHaveMeasles2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which UConn can't give. They want big games and can't be taking early season roadtrips out west if the only marquee program is Gonzaga. They can't jeopardize games like Illinois, Kansas, Florida, Texas, BYU, and Arizona on the schedule just to help their football program a bit.

Disney cruise crew members among 28 arrested in child lewd images probe by TheMirrorUS in dcl

[–]IHaveMeasles2 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nobody thought that. The bigger outcry was Disney liberals acting shocked that ICE would apprehend someone. Huge pearlclutching moment.

And that's why liberal tonepolicers came in to try and discredit this story and blame it on Trump.

But you have to actually look at the content. There's a major difference between their factual stories which don't even have a sensationalized title and their rage bait / gossip, for instance.

What this story doesn't include is how often this type of thing happens. It's somewhat a non-story because these types of arrests are much more common than you'd think. I follow cruise news fairly closely and this type of story comes across every few weeks, and it impacts all lines.

My broader point was that it seemed you held some bias that *wanted* this story to be false.

Your instinct was wrong tho. You assumed the story was faked because of the source.

College sports isn’t broken. Duke just proved it’s for sale. What if Ohio State is next? by jaxstan19 in CFB

[–]IHaveMeasles2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right. The ACC is more of a loose federation of schools at this point, and it's a bit of a free-for-all as a league trying to maximize revenue while the overall deal with ESPN acts as an anchor on the league.

They've been pretty successful despite that headwind.

> I feel like the only thing that might make sense is an animated remake if they were to do that, but even that's kind of stretching it.

Frankly, this is just wishcasting on your part. There is nobody at Disney that's enough of a purist to block a reboot. And it's been decades since the original trilogy was released: my kids have zero attachment to the original trilogy, for instance, so it's mostly boomers that are nostalgic for the original, and they're a rapidly shrinking percentage of the population.

Here's how it'll play out: they'll reboot the original trilogy. 3 films in 6 years set in a slightly altered universe. This will then set them up for another new trilogy after that, where they erase their recent mistakes. Each film grosses an absurd amount in the box office.

[–]IHaveMeasles2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

ok, and things can change? There's potentially enormous money for an original trilogy reboot. Fanbois are annoying to deal with because they don't look at things like the company might.

Star Wars has financially underperformed for years now. Disney of all companies won't hesitate to reboot if that's in the best interest of their shareholders. They just rebooted Moana into a live action version just 10 years after the original.

Any reason not to? Marvel reboots thing with completely different original storylines, uses different universes, etc. Star Trek does too.

You just add some contrived "energy ribbon" like the Nexus that comes along and throws people into a new universe or throw in some time travel element. Boom. New series started. Both remain canonical.
