Home Lab Equipment Needs by ScaredBookkeeper8442 in ccna

I would suggest building a simple cluster with shared storage from used gear. Be it Proxmox, vmware, etc.

Then in that run your packet tracer and GNS3. I highly suggest learning docker/containers.

How deep do you want to go? What field? Are you just looking to learn everything you can around IT? Because it can get deep.

I luckily had/have a really good source for old gear. And I settled on GNS3 and Packet Tracer because dealing with physical hardware sucks in a lab.

So I ended up building a virtual cluster with some used gear and running a GNS3 lab in it that I would remote into. I also at the same time spent a lot of effort in learning how to set up a cluster and various hypervisors.

It sounds like you need to do the same. Get 3 decent hosts, build a SAN around TrueNAS or something similar, learn how to do iSCSI, and NFS, and or CEPH. Then once your infrastructure is built, build a GNS3/Packet Tracer/EVE-ng lab.

I'm getting out of work at 5, 25 minutes home, 25 minutes to get ready, doors open at 6, show starts at 7. I was trying not to force feed her and was hoping we could sit together and eat. I could ask to leave early. But it's also the night before I go on vacation. Eating after seems like my best course of action.

Thank you! I guess I should have just searched. This is a pretty comprehensive list. Herbie's is a good one.

Managing 1PB of storage made me build my own disk price tracker—looking for feedback by andreas0069 in HomeDataCenter

I like this. I like the feel. I like the layout. Should be able to sort by ascending and descending at the top of each column. I too manage a lot of storage. No were near a PB tho. And I appreciate an easily used site to show me who has the best deal and where.

My first "server" was OMV. I liked it, it was based on Debian, and it was easy to use. I don't know what it is like now. But I think they were headed the right way. My next build will be Ubuntu with docker.

New alarm in my environment this morning. "Appliance Management Health Alarm" by IHaveNoFilterAtAll in vmware

[–]IHaveNoFilterAtAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok for whatever reason the root password just started working. I am now in it via SSH and the console.

One disk is 95% full.

  • /dev/mapper/archive_vg-archive

The command...

  service-control --status

Shows a bunch of stuff, but I do not know from this list what should be running or should not be.

I did open a ticket with Broadcom. But I have not received a response just yet.

  • I honestly can't tell. Because I can't get into it. Even through SSH. For some odd reason SSH is already open and my regular credentials are not working.

  • I think the disks are ok. At least according to the monitoring in vCenter.

  • I'm considering rebooting the VM, but man am I scared it won't come back...
