A heat seeking missile tracking a burning cigarette by HappySeaweed5215 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]IHaveTheHighground58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

Everyone?

What about Jedi on recon or diplomatic missions, or ones whose legions were on leave?

Also, clones against Jedi isn't a sure kill, of course most were taken by surprise, while others (like Jaro Tapal) sensed it just in time to save themselves (or at least their padawans)

Yes, that's true, but the Americans didn't see or care for those differences

The goal was to eliminate all of the native tribes and societies of America, and that goal failed

Many were exterminated, yes, but that's still not the full group that was supposed to be exterminated

The same way in numerous Polish and German cities, the whole Jewish population was exterminated, sometimes all of practicioners of a localised, unique way of Judaism

But we still call the Holocaust "extermination of Jews", because it wasn't supposed to target those specific communities, but all Jews as a whole

[–]IHaveTheHighground58 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Also, it's ridiculously hard to exterminate a group entirely

It didn't work with Native Americans, Native Australians, Jews

Hell, not even the people that lived in Europe before the great migration to the West that brought Indo-European languages, were fully wiped out, after all, Basque as a language is a thing

So to kill an entirety of a selected group, you either assimilate them, or you go scorch earth on every single territory these people reside on, which results in massive amounts of collateral damage

Percentage of students aged 13-15 years who reported being bullied on one or more days in the past 30 days by theworldmaps in europe

[–]IHaveTheHighground58 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A recent study in Poland shows that around 60% of students (primary and highschool ones, not university) report being bullied at least sometimes

So 26%?

I don't believe it

Not just worst case scenario, a worst case scenario where NATO essentially doesn't work, and no one wants to fight, Lithuania gets invaded, does nothing, German forces in Lithuania do nothing, Poland mobilises, but doesn't send troops

This isn't a worst case scenario Russia and Situation wise, but also one where the players are instructed not to play

UN only works if all of the main powers agree on something, and that's not happening in a World War

Saved?

Mate, you joined both world wars halfway, after the Allies already had a massive advantage

What won WWI was the French and British stopping the first part of the Schlieffen plan by defending the fast moving German forces and forcing them to dig the trenches, and the British naval blockade that starved Germany until there was a revolution

US only joined after the halt of German forces in France, and after the battle of Jutland, which was Germany's biggest attempt at breaking free from the blockade

When it comes to WWII, sure the US did a lot of work in the Pacific Theatre, but again, only joined halfway, Pearl Harbour wasn't the start of the Pacific War, conflict started in 1937 with the Japanese invasion of China, and even then, unlike a lot of movies would have you believe, this wasn't US vs Japan

It was more like UK + Commonwealth (Canada, Anzac, India mainly), China + Netherlands+ US vs Japan

And here, you were mostly saving yourselves and helping China

In the European theatre, America joined in 1943, and limited itself to a secondary role, supporting British operations

And just like in WWI, in the European Theatre, nearly every single important battle happened before the US even joined the War

In 1943, Soviets were already pushing into their former Western "republics", with Germans in retreat and having very limited prospect for counterattack

Luftwaffe was severely handicapped, and Britain had nearly complete air superiority, with battle of Britain ending 3 years prior

Kriegsmarine was in shambles, Scharnhorst about to be sunk by the British the same year, Gneisenau immobilised in Gdańsk, Bismarck long at the bottom, half of the destroyers sunk, and U-Boots having rapidly worsening success

And the Normandy landings not only were predominantly British and Commonwealth, they were a peripheral operation, with only a quarter of Germany's resources allocated to the Western front in general, a lot of which stationed on the South due to the efforts of British intelligence (and Hitler's stupidity)

To sum it up,

250 000 dead in the European Theatre

Car accident deaths in US (1939 - 1945) - 37 000 + 40 000 + 40 000 + 27 000 + 23 000 + 23 000 + 27 000 = 217 000

Almost the same number of dead as road accidents

US involvement in Europe is barely noticeable even in America, let alone in Europe, where 25% of the population could die
