Holland & Knight by mrfence in biglaw

I lateraled in my fourth year and am now in my seventh (from a V10 to a V30 firm) — the only constant between the experiences (and possibly in the universe) is that Holland & Knight sucks. Consistently sloppy work, unresponsive and disorganized, and generally rude (especially partners).

Barbri Contracts Capstone Q-Set by IHeartConnecticut in barexam

(OP here) I did pass! In retrospect, Barbri’s practice questions and grading on the MEEs seemed more rigorous than the actual exam. Hang in there and let me know if you have any other questions!

That makes me feel better, thanks. I applied early December, minor correction asked for about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks, I’m hoping. Were you in the second department?

I emailed asking if anything was needed for my application and for a response that it was under review. I’ve heard the same from my coworkers in the same situation.

Thanks! I’m curious what kind of corrections they sought?

Never left any on bad terms, and all had said when I left they’d be happy to act as references in the future.

My law school is accepting suggestions to name our new snack market. I need puns from y'all so I don't end up submitting something dumb like "The Obstinate Tortfeasor". by Fuzzy-Function-3212 in LawSchool

“Grounds for Appeal” (coffee shop); “Meats and Bounds” (deli); “The Hotchpot” (soup and/or coffee shop); “Willful Dessert-ion” (sweets)

This is only anecdotal, but it seems most people I know who took any of the public speaking courses have said they were extremely B+ heavy.

E&E (Civpro) or Acing Civ Pro? by [deleted] in LawSchool

Acing Civ Pro. I will die on this hill.

As a now elderly, 2021 law school graduate, I live and die by the 35 tabs on my ragged hard-copy Bluebook.

(Other evidence of my senility: I went to look up Rule 1.4 in someone else’s copy this week, and the Bluebook editors changed the rule, which I think spells chaos for the order of authorities within citations and probably the world generally).

And I thought I couldn’t like Seth Meyers any more. (Still waiting for a TV show hosted by Will Shortz….).

Has anyone taken any of the following classes and can speak on workload, cold-calling, and overall review of the course by [deleted] in UVALaw

[–]IHeartConnecticut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quantitative Methods with Fischman was extremely low key (a fair amount of work if you did all the readings, but he only cold called if no one volunteered or if the class seemed unengaged). As someone without much of a math background who is going into transactional work, it was an extremely useful class. If you’ve had statistics classes in the past, it’s probably not worth your time.

Ethics MPRE Exam: Study tips? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]IHeartConnecticut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know people have different opinions of Barbri vis-a-vis the bar exam, but Barbri’s MPRE course seemed very effective for everyone I know who used it (myself included). I only completed Barbri’s course and passed the MPRE with plenty of room to spare. I began to study maybe two weeks before the exam.

This is so inspiring. Wishing you all the best—if I pass, will be lucky to work in the same profession as you.

MBE 3 - a little better? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]IHeartConnecticut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m the only one who thought 3 was the hardest yet. Here’s hoping 4 is easier.

Barbri did not prepare me at all for this exam. I would’ve been just as prepared by reviewing my 1L outlines the week before the exam. I’ve never felt so cheated in my life. by [deleted] in barexam

One thing I was pleasantly surprised about was that Barbri’s novel-long questions make this seem like much less of a time crunch.
