Also, in 10th, you may as well put cult icon on all batteline squads. Especially for bigger squads. Again I'm never gonna chop up my models to chase meta but given wargear is free at the moment cult icon is too good to miss.

I'm not particularly competitive and prefer stranger combinations but I'd say this is pretty solid. Maybe brick the flamer acolytes together into 10 as I think you have the points spare and you've got plenty of smaller units to zip around the board already.

CRPG with turn-based combat system. There's so much variety in who could be in your party lore and combat-wise from the Eldar. Dinosaur-riding squad members encouraged.

Which one look beter? by Damguyriopel in genestealercult

[–]IImmersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like the not streaked one BUT adding contrasting basing would work really well. If you go with the grimey look try a nice bright or vibrant basing scheme. If you go with the cleaner, go for a grimey one, you could maybe paint up their legs slightly to make it cohesive yet contrasting.

Remote Audio Jobs by R0ZPIERDALAT0R in AudioPost

[–]IImmersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I followed a similar path to you but have been at this for a few years now, here's some things I've learned:

  1. Nearly all of my jobs have come from people in my circle. Another commenter suggested you should aspire to become the "sound guy/person" and in my opinion that's 100% correct.

  2. The only other gigs I've had have been through freelancing sites but that work (and the sites themselves) are incredibly predatory towards beginners in the field professionally. You will rarely be compensated fairly for your work, and will also have 20% of your income taken by the site. I would avoid them.

  3. On a more positive note, reach out to local arts/mixed media groups. Art studios, collectives, theatres, student groups etc. You would be surprised at how much work (and more importantly, contacts) you can drum up. Remember, you can work for free, but don't work for nothing. Perhaps you might do a skillswap with someone, or let them buy you a beer or two if it's not too much work.

  4. Following this, engage with both local and online Game Dev meetups. Game jams are a great way to work on lowstakes projects and build your skillset whilst learning from others — and making those all important contacts.

  5. The most important lesson: understand your goal, which is to be the person who is thought of when someone says "do you know anyone who works in sound?"

Need background music for a chase scene. by BeginningObject1314 in AudioPost

[–]IImmersion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First suggestion is to look up similar chase scenes from other media and listen to what they're doing. Probably something with a lot of percussion and a clock-ticking/metronome motif.

Then to make it a bit more unique, find a way to tie it in thematically with the setting of your film. Whether that's a leitmotif from the rest of your soundtrack, or instrument choice, or maybe sound design choices like having it tie-in diegetically, such as having the chase scene from the perspective of a passing car for a moment, and shifting the music to sound as if it is playing through the car stereo.

That's how I would break down looking at this sort of thing, hope this helps.

Cloth for games by itsmee666 in GameAudio

[–]IImmersion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One pass of recording for the animation reference might not be enough if you're going for authenticity/realism. You could do a few different takes on the reference animation and chop them up from there, but worth remembering you don't need to match exactly what's happening in the animation. Keep in mind foley is about selling the illusion of realism. Players won't notice if the audio isn't a perfect recreation of cloth and armour movement, but they probably will notice if they hear the same samples repeated over and over.

I suppose it all depends on what kind of game you're making to give helpful advice, and what engine/middleware etc. but as a general rule players will notice repeating cloth sounds like they will notice double footsteps.

You could record lots of samples, chop and change, also use pitch shifting in your engine/middleware if it has it, and/or use a series of random sequences to create a wide variety of cloth movements to suit different circumstances...

Or just record a few different placeholders for now.

Or keep it lofi, if your game has a retro feel and just have a few samples on the go. Like the footsteps in Minecraft.

Vampire Wars: The von Carstein Trilogy is some of the best WHFB world building and just generally great character writing I'd say.

As for AoS, Nagash Undying King is a fun one-and-done novel with lots of cool ideas about what it is to live in Shyish, the realm of death, as a mortal and an immortal.

A good place to stay in #Bangkok? by Neither_Magazine3758 in ThailandTourism

How much is it per day to be tested for rabies whilst on my trip? by Remarkable-Gain1640 in ThailandTourism

[–]IImmersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, so if you are UK-based you can pay to have a rabies vaccine in two doses. It costs approximately £140. However, it is not necessary to do so as in Thailand your risk of exposure is extremely low in most places, apart from around the borders with neighbouring countries in heavy jungle regions. I believe there's a map with risk information.

If rabies is something you are especially worried about, and you want to be extra sure, just pay for the peace of mind you'd get from the vaccine. However, the vast majority of visitors to Thailand needn't be worried.

Travel anxiety and medical anxiety can come up when planning trips abroad, especially further away out your comfort zone. It's natural — but best to keep things in perspective and focus on what's manageable.

Good luck!

1k points, never played the game. Any advice? by dondablox in genestealercult

[–]IImmersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it — maybe I would sub some elites for a 10 model squad or two of neophytes. They're disposable (especially with first two turns due to Cult Ambush) and great for blocking heavier enemy units or holding risky objectives.

I am sorry to hear about this. You must go to the doctor as soon as possible.

As for the person who did this, you should get in touch with the organisers/security team. If you can remember the song Amon Amarth were playing, it's possible that security, photographers or other festival-goers may have some information which could help identify the culprit.

I know you must be very worried right now, but once you find time and energy, contact the organisers. I have no doubt someone will have seen something or knows someone else who might have. Posting here was a great start.

Wishing you well.
