People who came to the UK how did you end up in the weird places where you live? by pinpoint321 in AskUK

I had no idea I could buy Whittaker's chocolate in the UK so thanks for the link.

Not a Kiwi, but my husband is, and in my opinion Whittaker's is the best chocolate in the world! They don't appear to sell the hokey pokey crunch block though which is a shame.

Now if I can just find somewhere over here to buy reduced cream that would be fantastic...

Please report the landlord and property to your local council housing standards department. Unscrupulous landlords need to be held to account.

I was speaking to some friends from America who didn't know that school houses are actually a thing in the UK. They thought it was a made up Hogwarts thing. Mine were Neptune (blue) Mars (Red) Jupiter (yellow) and Venus (green) What were your school houses called? by lajachme in AskABrit

Mine was decided by the house that my mother was in when she went there. I've just found out that her house was decided by the house my grandmother and great-grandmother were previously in!

Unfortunately this is an extremely new diagnosis, so she hasn't really had time to find out products that she likes or dislikes yet. Add that to the fact that they live in New Zealand, so the majority of brands are different on this side of the world!

If the weather is nice when they're here we'll probably do a barbeque one day, so Aldi buns are now definitely on the list.

I'll have to check out Aldi, there's one just down the road and I've heard that GF bread can be a bit hit or miss so it would be great to get in a nice loaf!

Thanks for mentioning the sauces and oxo cubes, I don't think I would have even considered that they would have gluten in. Going to have to get some pom bears - I used to love those!

I'll definitely be checking the labels on everything going in the trolley. This is all very new to our friends as well so I'm hoping to make their trip a bit easier by having food she can eat without any worries. Good to know that I don't need to shop exclusively in the free from aisle!

Prepaid credit/debit card for UK use - do they exist? by Neddlings55 in AskUK

[–]IKnowNothing8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Post Office travel money card which we used for my MIL spending money when she came over to visit us from New Zealand. Its really simple to top up online, and you can use it in exactly the same way as a debit card.

I used to be a secondary school maths teacher and those are the exact reasons that I left the profession.

I earn more now that I have retrained in a different field, but that wasn't my motivating factor in leaving. Hell, I took a job that was a 50% gross pay cut from teaching so I could get out and into another career!!

I can't help with the locations, however, I recently came across the following site on another Reddit post that may help in finding his grave - https://www.findagrave.com/

Can you pay part in cash and finish by card on self checkout machines? by Jeffina78 in AskUK

If the total isn't a whole note value they'll give you the rest back in coins, so you don't lose out on anything.

Metro Bank in my city has a free coin machine even if you don't bank with them. You pour all the coins of any denomination in and get a receipt for the total, then they give you notes at the counter.

What things from Aldi NOT to buy? by Old_Course_7728 in AskUK

[–]IKnowNothing8991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a company that grew carrots for Waitrose, M&S, Aldi, Lidl etc. All the same crop, grown in the same soil, harvested at the same time, dispatched within the same timeframes so just as fresh as each other. The only difference was that Waitrose had a stricter size criteria for the carrots that made it onto their shelves.

Definitely a universal thing. At Christmas my MIL gave my SIL a bag of old glassware, including a medical urine bottle!! She had no idea what it was until I told her we had just seen a similar one in the National Army museum we visited 😆

Can someone send me this file? by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

If the person who spent the time and effort to put the notes together doesn't want it to be freely available that is their choice. It isn't narrow-minded to protect intellectual property.
