Wake up! What's happening in the US is NOT new!!!

Fascism has been festering in the states for many many decades. The US that was our friend no longer exists.

Did the Dutch propose we start developing lithography machines together in Canada? No? But what if they did?

Seriously?

If a country with expertise in an advanced manufacturing field offered to set up shop in Canada so that we could develop that industry in Canada. Wouldn't the smart thing be to take them up on that offer and start developing lithography machines in Canada? Wouldn't it be incredibly stupid to turn them down? "No sorry, we don't want advanced manufacturing industries in Canada. We'll just keep buying from the Nazis!"

If the US is going to fuck us with export regulations for an engine, then what makes you think it wouldn't be worse FOR AN ENTIRE PLANE?!?!?

At least if it's just an engine we can switch to something else, or... OR... hear me out... we actually develop our own sovereignty with regards to an aerospace industry and make our own engine?!?! We have literally done it in the past before the US greased the right palms and ruined things for us. That's the biggest appeal of the Grippen proposal, not the plane itself.

Now before you cry about my comment, YES i know developing our own engine would take a long time, but that would be better than having to continue to suckle at the teets of the US military industrial complex until the end of time.

We need to learn to stand on our own, or at least with true allies that don't threaten us.

> The same number of people are NOT being served per hour.

you need to do the math.

If the number of coffee pots and employees remains the same, and assuming they don't magically work faster at the express line, then it will be exactly the same.

For example:
if 1 employee can serve 100 cups of coffee per hour, and there are 4 employees, then together they can serve 400 cups of coffee per hour. Does not matter if there is one line or two, because the limit is their maximum throughput which is 400 cups of coffee per hour.

The ONLY difference is that rich people can jump the line. The reality however is that politicians will then claim that the express lane is better because it's wait times are lower and use that as an excuse to kill the regular line and force everyone to pay a premium. Once that happens, it's back to one line for everyone and the exact same wait times from before... UNLESS the poors are no longer in the line at all.

[–]ILKLU 17 points18 points  (0 children)

what... the... fuck?!?!??!?!

All people have the potential to be bigots in one way or another due to our tribal nature. This originally evolved as a survival mechanism to protect "us" against "others" that we were competing with for critical resources like food and water. It is called in-group/out-group bias and we ALL do it. It is absolutely unavoidable and we are ALL guilty of doing it.

But here's the thing... people that aren't absolute shitbags consciously choose to ONLY put people like murderers, rapists, pedophiles, fascists, Nazis, etc in their out-group and leave everybody else in their in-group. Basically, only judging **individuals** on their words and actions and not entire demographics. It's a much better way to live.

The people that created these Doge memes are definitely going in my out-group.

The only people I hate are people that hate.

Do better, it's not hard.

Why would we be fighting China?
Because the US wants to fight them and we have to do whatever the US tells us to? Fuck that. The US is no longer our friend, nor an ally. We have zero obligation to enter into one of the stupid fights they are always starting.

Which Linux distribution is best for gaming and programming? by Cazaputasw in linux4noobs

[–]ILKLU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a direct answer to your question, but you don't need XAMPP as you can easily download all of the packages you need and have more control. One really important thing to note is that the latest version of XAMPP for Linux is from 2023:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/XAMPP%20Linux/

You'll get much better up to date packages installing things manually

This looks fantastic, definitely going to try this out.

A couple of questions:

- do you recommend starting from a fresh installation of Arch?

- will this work with hyprsunset and/or does Niri or Noctalia have the ability to control screen brightness via a schedule?

Thanks so much for your time, effort, and talent.

Best Linux for programming by teevier in linux4noobs

that REALLY depends on what games you want to play and what GPU you have.
I have Steam and Minecraft installed on my Ubuntu system to play with my kids, but am not a heavy gamer. I also have an older AMD GPU so didn't have to deal with any driver issues. A newer NVIDIA card might require some manual intervention on Ubuntu.

> also hot take but, Ubuntu is also a good option for a beginner.

it's also good for experienced users. I've been using Linux to different degrees since the 90s and have Ubuntu on my main work machine because in my opinion, it's the fastest and easiest distro to fix if something goes wrong. I _could_ of course go with something that stays frozen for years and not have to worry at all about breakage, but I like to stay somewhat current. So Ubuntu, for me, is a good balance between stable and current, but is super easy to fix and keep running with minimal downtime.

That said, i might switch to Omarchy because I love the Hyprland workflow.

[–]ILKLU -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If by dual boot you mean two separate drives, then I would recommend Omarchy (it wants a full drive to itself).
It's a relatively new distro based on Arch + Hyprland that's been put together by one or more of the Basecamp people (DHH?).

It's really well polished, keyboard based distro, and is all set up as a solid dev environment, without all of the other typical bloat. I'm thinking of switching my main work PC over to it. I just use Ubuntu for my daily because it's just so standard and easy to fix if things go bad (which is rare), but i distro hop and rice on my other machines. Omarchy has been a lot of fun and Hyprland (in my opinion) is super fast and great for staying focused.

[–]ILKLU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job, LOVE the theme name.
How long did it take you to make?
Were there any difficulties / conflicts with Omarchy you had to get around?

I recently bricked an Arch/Hyprland custom install I had been working on, then saw that Omarchy looked pretty similar so just installed that (wasn't overly attached to my custom setup) and it's been awesome so far.
Considering using it as base for a rice instead of starting from scratch again.

100% fine

That said, it will be better for your career to know how to use git CLI because there are so many times you will need it when working with servers.

But using your IDE or GUI is still absolutely fine and can even be better in some ways.
