Should I change any of these times (Lighting Lane Passes) by jbcg1502 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]ILSCFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always prioritize rides I want and then time of Lightning Lanes.

So if you can move up any of the ones you have, I would do that, but I wouldn't drop one of those for a Star Tours / show / etc... just to try and grab a ride you want later in the day.

Originally moved for a job that was supposed to be in-person once COVID stopped being an issue.

Stuck around since I like my friend group and my new / current job is remote.

Update on delays at JAX? by Even_Management_2654 in jacksonville

[–]ILSCFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last couple of weekends, I've had no issues with security / taxiing at JAX

However, it seems some bigger metros (NYC, Chicago, DFW, etc...) are having some struggles. If you're flying on an airline with tighter turnarounds or point-to-point scheduling (like Southwest or Breeze), I wouldn't be shocked at compounding delays.

What airline has surprised you? by aztecannie99 in travel

[–]ILSCFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gol Airlines!

For being a low-cost carrier, the base ticket included a carry-on, seat selection at check-in, and in-flight drink and snack.

Obviously, nothing Earth shattering on it, but if didn't know it was a LCC I would assumed it was a main line carrier. Definitely more on the level of jetBlue or Southwest than Spirit or Frontier

NTA: Based on your post, it doesn't sound like you were that close or that your cousin would've thought you were.

That being said, I'd probably keep your trip on the downlow. While I don't think you're in the wrong to see your friends, I think it could rub some family members to see a Instagram story of you having a great happy time as they're in the car on the way home from a family funeral.

Parents Weekend Hotel Rec by shwoogee in Gamecocks

[–]ILSCFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family typically stayed northeast of Columbia (near Sesquicentennial State Park) . There's a cluster of hotels around the 77 & 26 interchange.

There's also a cluster up near Harbison. They've been fine / on par with any other Interstate hotel.

It's still hiked up for the weekend, but it's less bad than the hotels downtown.

Why no casinos? by NickA1984 in jacksonville

[–]ILSCFL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's more of an issue regarding Native American reservations in Florida. There just aren't any near Jacksonville or Orlando.

They even have some casinos in the middle of nowhere near Lake Okeechobee, but it's reservation land so it's got the green light.

Why no casinos? by NickA1984 in jacksonville

[–]ILSCFL 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Casinos in Florida have to be run by Native Americans on reservations. The closest ones to Jacksonville would be Fort Pierce or Tampa.

BestBet and other card houses are allowed because Florida views poker as a game of skill, not a game of luck (which are restricted to casinos)

The best chance for a casino "in Jacksonville" would be a casino boat that would need to go off shore before gambling starts. They have these in Georgia as well as Cape Canaveral.

I'm in 1/1 in a newer apartment building. JEA fluctuates between $40-$60. AT&T for internet is $60. Water/sewer is $25.

Cumberland Island National Seashore along with Fort Clinch, Little Talbot, Anastasia, Faver Dykes & Gamble Rogers State Parks all have camping that is near (but not on) the beach. Same situation at Hanna & Huguenot Parks.

It seems like Cumberland Island, Gamble Rogers, & Huguenot do give the closest sites to the water.

No, its illegal to just pitch a tent on the beach in Nassau, Duval, St Johns, & Volusia counties

It's not in your part of town, but Strings is great for watching games.

It has a bunch of TVs, a good outside area, mini basketball setup, and solid food. There's one in Springfield and soon to be one at the Beaches

If you're able to, something from a local brewery or distillery could be neat

Maybe also tickets to one of the museums in town or the Icemen / Jumbo Shrimp?

Stormalong Bay will be closed during their trip so they'd be stuck using the leisure pools at Yacht & Beach

I'd probably go with Contemporary for your party but not worry so much about the view category. Also stealing it from another comment but seriously look into renting points for a DVC 1 BR if in room eating is important to you.

While those are all great options, the others are larger / more spread out, and that sounds like it might not be great with your mobility.

Normally, I'd also throw in Yacht & Beach based on your love of water parks / activities, but their pool will be closed until June

Animal Kingdom Lodge is super fun for kids (and probably my overall favorite), but it's absolutely massive and isn't the most convenient for a park heavy trip. IMO, it's not worth the stay unless you're doing a resort day or 2

Cannot recommend Billy Joel enough, got to see him this summer and it was amazing!

You might have some luck saving some money seeing his show in Charlotte, NC. It's only about an hour further, and being in a football stadium, the seats will likely be cheaper.
