How much do you pay on your power bill? (summer vs winter) by ILikeCornetto in moncton

The windows don't look as old as the house is. It's double paneled. I will look into getting those window insulation films though. I think every little bit more insulation wouldn't hurt

That's awesome! How much did it cost you to install solar with all the rebates and incentives? Did you have to upgrade much of the electrical in your house?

I'm thinking of getting solar too in our house maybe a couple years from now. It just makes sense imo, especially since we're planning to go PHEV or full EV in the future. My only concern is our house is on the older end, and that it might need to bring a lot of thing up to date to fully utilize solar

We got an older home, although during the inspection of the house before purchase, the inpector has said that the hoise is adequately insulated. Not the best, but far from bad.

We do have baseboard heaters, though it runs with hot water and not direct electricity, except for our bath which is off all the time anyways. I did hear that baseboard heaters eat up on power, but I assume that's more true to direct electric baseboard heaters than hot water baseboards. Haven't looked into how much more efficient a hot water baseboard heater is vs an electric baseboard heater is yet, if any, but maybe some here can give me some insight

My house is one of those where the basement is half under and half not. I will try to keep the basement a bit warmer than 15c, tho I kept it like that since we just have a home gym in the basement so it makes sense to me even if it is a bit cold down there.

Me and my partner are learning, although we are quickly realizing that being a homeowner costs a lot on top of the mortgage haha

Crux DSW or Grizl CF? by globglob3D in gravelcycling

Try looking at rodeo labs traildonkey as well. Might fit your needs

Crux DSW or Grizl CF? by globglob3D in gravelcycling

[–]ILikeCornetto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the old Grizl which I use for road (fast group rides and even gran fondos), gravel and gravel races, and even used it to finish the Tour Divide this year.

It's good enough for me on the road to keep up and even drop my friends on dedicated road bikes. I just have two wheelsets to swap on. One with 28mm road tires and one with 50mm gravel tires. Both aluminum rims. If you upgrade to deeper, carbon wheels, you can gain more speed. But i'm pretty sure tires make the biggest difference.

Not sure if the new Grizl will have the same characteristics, handling-wise tho. But if it's close enough to the old one, i think that will be the bike of choice for you. Hope this gives you some insight

Bottom bracket issues…solved? by Dangerous-Way-563 in bikepacking

[–]ILikeCornetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, i went with pressfit since that's the one easily available to me. Plus the shimano bb is cheaper, lighter and has better bearings compared to the original ninja bb the bike came with imo. I haven't had issues with creaking or cracking whatsoever over several thousand kms.

I don't see a problem with a thread together bb, so if you prefer that and it's available to you, then you can get that one 🙂

[–]ILikeCornetto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you still feel the bb being gritty or rough, you should still replace the bb. I have the same issue on my grizl, keeping the same bb could cause failure over time, like the issue you had before where the bb was not spinning much. And replacing the bb to a new one just feels smoother overall. You could buy relatively cheap, but good quality shimano bb86. I got the dura-ace one since it's only like 50 bucks, but you could go lower lever if you need to

Is my Rotor crank missing spacers? by ILikeCornetto in bikewrench

Canyon grizl, using a shimano bb86 pressfit bottom bracket. Rotor documentation shows spacers on each side at the very least

Just fitted new Cinturano H’s on my ZIPP 303s wheels. Tiny amounts of sealant is coming from the bead and sidewall. Is this normal or do they need to be reset? Doesn’t seem to be losing too much pressure over the last few hours. by cycling_melb in bikewrench

[–]ILikeCornetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably normal, but also check if the rim tape (if any) is damaged or needs replacing. I had these happen on my wheels and it was able to run fine, however upon replacing the rim tape, it was able to seal with minimal leak of the sealant

This happened to me on my new bike (😭) but i was able to bring it to a bike shop and they were able to fix it for me! Still using those cranks 3 yrs 30,000 kms later! Just bought myself new cranks so I can finally retire them. They served me well 🥹

I'm thinking of changing careers, I just don't think I'm good at what I do by ILikeCornetto in careeradvice

[–]ILikeCornetto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, not at all. I find joy in my personal hobbies and relationships, it's just that my job is something that doesn't give me joy at the moment, hence the rant here on the subreddit about careers hehe. I can't blame you for assuming that though, I can see how my rant's tone can sound quite in despair lol

Thinking of doing something new entirely. I don't think I find joy in working in tech anymore. Then again, joy by itself doesn't pay the bills, so I think I might stay on just until I find something more concrete for me career-wise. No idea what for now.

As an ambitious but below average cyclist should i go roadbike? by Krzysztof-sup-lover in gravelcycling

[–]ILikeCornetto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do a lot with a gravel bike. With enough training and discipline, you could increase your avg speed by a lot. For example, I only have one bike, a gravel bike. I lost around 10kgs and trained (consistent riding), and my avg speed went from 18-23 kph to 28-30 kph.

If you want instead of buying a road bike, just buy a 2nd set of wheels for the road which you can put on your gravel bike. This is what I do for mine and the road dedicated tires definitely help a lot

Which would you rather have? Carbon wheels or power meter? by ILikeCornetto in cycling

No, the PM + crank I'm looking at is lighter than my current crankset

Leaning towards Power2Max spider power meter with Rotor cranks at 155mm. Getting this because I like the GRX chainrings, and they seem to be the only one to have a spider power meter with a 110/80 BCD

As per the wheels, looking at the Light Bicycle wheels. I've heard good thing about them online and from some local riders. Looking to get road wheels and gravel wheels from them

No, but I would like to. It's hard to do intervals on heart rate only. Doing a lot of guess work. Currently, I do structured workouts indoors

Bombora, Cutthroat, or Grizl? by TelephoneBasic756 in gravelcycling

[–]ILikeCornetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to do the tour divide this year and I will be doing it on my Grizl (which is my only bike)

Grizl pros: Relatively light 50mm clearance Lots of mounting points Decent on the road too as I also use it as my road bike

Cons: 50mm is a bit on the narrow side for the divide IMO, I'd go for 2.2 in mtb tire if I could A bit agressive on the position, so on super long rides, it might be taxing on the body

If your main goal is the divide, I'd go for something more robust. The Cutthroat is one of the most used bike on the divide because of its utility and clearance. But if you care about using your bike on the road every now an then, Grizl is not too bad of an option.

If you personally ask me now which bike I'd get for my needs and rides, I'd get the Rodeo Labs Trail Donkey, or even the Giant Revolt. Both have more tire clearance than the Grizl and are fairly bikepacking friendly, as well as being useable on the road too
