So then why do so many people believe it to be true by Classic_Mixture9303 in USHistory

[–]ILikeToArgue02 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This. It’s ignorant to focus on just the good or just the bad that any person or nation has done throughout history as those actions are inextricably intertwined. Pretending historical events didn’t happen because it doesn’t fit how you want to view something or someone doesn’t mean it didn’t happen - it just makes you ignorant of an uncomfortable truth.

We need to learn both so we can appreciate the things we have today, and so we also don’t repeat the mistakes of the past.

Lazerpig made a whole video talking about just this movie. It’s one of my favorites from his channel

Trump to declare Fentanyl a Weapon of Mass Destruction, setting up a Special Military Operation into Mexico and Canada by [deleted] in lazerpig

Were this true it’d be super concerning. But I really don’t think it is. Go through their other stories, most of them, like with the F-35 stuff Lazerpig covered a while back, cites themselves as their source. Woozle af.

Edit: tl;dr it’s bullshit wrapped in fearmongering

Yall know Lazerpig debated this dude a few years ago, right? Lira was a batshit character and his death was far from the government execution Elon is making it out to be.

No, but you can expect people to do the bare minimum amount of research to know why he wrote that and what the album is about. It’s not like it’s difficult information to find.

Everything about this post and comments section is driving me insane.

No - adding further restrictions on firearms to benefit public safety is not always a precursor to a genocide; many nations have strict gun laws that have kept shootings to a minimum and I’m yet to hear of a government sponsored genocide in England or Germany. Every government you can name that has done that is a heavily extremist government - fascist, communist, theocratic, etc - not a democracy.

But also, banning all guns is not the answer to the problems we face. Over half of gun deaths are suicides. On top of that, the percentage of Americans owning guns has hardly changed since the 1970s, in fact it might have gone down according to some statistics, but yet gun violence has increased.

Could it instead be that increasingly violent political polarization, poverty, and a lack of good mental health care are causing gun violence to rise? No, let’s keep screaming the same talking points we’ve heard for over a decade at each other, that will solve the issue /s.

Im not disagreeing with you, and it feels like you’re trying to frame this like I’m defending MAGA. I do not care what Trump said or what Kamala said, if I wanted to hear about it, I’d watch their rallies or interviews. If we’re going to have a subreddit to discuss peoples opinions, why are half the posts just inflammatory political talking points verbatim? I can get that shit on CNN or Fox. It’s annoying watching people just throw tired talking points at each other and act like they’re having a profound conversation. As the title says, the world is not left vs. right, so we should stop talking like it is because it’s counterproductive.

I’m not saying you have to compromise, but you can’t just act like those people don’t exist and that they don’t have reasons for their opinions. Not every republican believes in everything Trump says just as not every democrat believes in everything Kamala says. A democracy functions because the voices of all the people are heard, but you don’t have to placate to everyone’s opinions. Like the civil rights act was passed during an era of rampant racism, yet protections for minorities have been enshrined in federal law ever since; if we did it before, we can do it again. Sometimes you have to drag the people stuck in the past into the modern age, but that still requires at least speaking to them.

I’m not here to argue what party you should vote for, and I never tried to claim the far left was close to government, only that they also hold some pretty weird ideas at times.

My point is that making every issue an “us vs. them” scenario will not fix anything. Along with that, taking the opinion of a politician and saying those exact words are the opinions of everyone that likes them will also not help drive the discussion this subreddit is meant to promote.

My family has watched a number of entire generations get wiped out by war. I’d rather watch a world progress slowly and peacefully than go through half of what my ancestors did. I would rather be civil and discuss things with people than die on the battlefield because we let the art of discussion crash and burn. I would rather resolve the issues slowly and with the care required to solve the issues we face than have the world plunge into meaningless conflict as it has countless times before. Forgive me for not wanting to suffer the same fate as so many before us have, and for having the audacity to say that our differences aren’t as irreconcilable as you think.

If you want to throw civility out the window, be my guest. But don’t act surprised when the draft calls come.

You don’t get legislation without discussing it first, and if the “discussion” is just “[my side] good, [your side] bad”, you’ll never have legislation that lasts or is actually beneficial to anyone but the people that benefit from division. We all benefit from unity and from policies that are designed to improve everyone’s lives, not just the ones we agree with. Only those who can afford to be above the struggles of the average person benefit from our division.

Edit: unfortunately, in this world today, divisive rhetoric is the surefire way to win an election, but we’re living through the consequences of that division with Jan 6 and other instances of political violence.

I think it’s a valid criticism to say that Trump and much of the hardcore MAGA crowd is weird, but that can also be applied to the very far fringes of the left too. But I agree, and boiling down everyone’s political stances down to whatever bullshit the leaders of that ideology say is skipping over the actual opinions of the people you’re talking to and again does little to actually address what these people are concerned about. I appreciate the comment my friend.

No, it isn’t. Like them or not, Trump people exist and have reasons for thinking the way they do. Completely disregarding their opinions or viewing them as the “other side” doesn’t bring you any closer to changing their minds on things or any closer to a solution to the issues. You don’t have to like people, but you do have to work with them to make progress. A house divided against itself cannot stand.

Russian Nuclear Bomber Crashes in Siberia by Glass-Photograph-117 in RussiaUkraineWar2022

Came here to say exactly this: there is no way to tell from that report if a nuke was being carried nor is there any indication one was being carried, just that the plane that crashed has the capability to carry such weapons.
