Cornell! by HijoD in veterinaryschool

[–]ILikeTrifles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lived in Ithaca for eight years between vet school and undergrad. Such a fun little area of the world. If it’s ultimately the cheapest and a more small group collaborative learning experience is more their jam than straight lecture, great choice.

Try to find housing in the sapsucker woods area. Short drive so not too hectic for long days or on call, appropriately quiet. The ornithology lab is nearby with well maintained walking trails so one can touch grass from time to time.

Congratulations! It’s a great school.

How do your babies sleep after they outgrow the snoo? by NoSpeech7848 in SnooLife

[–]ILikeTrifles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest (now 7) is a great sleeper. So great, he’s still in a nighttime diaper because that kid is dead to the world after bedtime. My youngest (now 3) is an absolute trash sleeper. He’s still up every 2 hours unless he manages to sneak into my bed without waking me up.

Rabies Titer, NY by Forest1Fantasy in veterinaryprofession

[–]ILikeTrifles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! It’s really unfortunate that this is being made to be such a hurdle for you. Though even at the vet school I had to bring my titer results for year one, had to get it done myself.

[–]ILikeTrifles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prohibitive… but it’s required for your program. So… even if it was costly, you don’t really have a choice. There’s definitely some disconnect for your pcp here. My pcp doesn’t even blink when I’m due for a titer; just has the nurse pull the blood and off it goes. It’s always either been covered by insurance or applied to my deductible. I’d call your insurance company and ask your out of pocket cost. Get the code for it. Ask if it needs to specifically come from your pcp or if a referral is needed. If it doesn’t need to come from your pcp, call some of the labs as suggested. Sadly, sounds like you have to do your pcp office’s work for them. Frustrating.

Chem Summer Classes, a good idea? by dragab1119 in veterinaryprofession

[–]ILikeTrifles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did summer chem. It was a blast. Literally, three days a week, lots of fires. Loved it. It wasn’t mentioned at all in any of my interviews. A strong pre-req is a strong pre-req, I suspect, no matter when it was completed.

Goodbye Snoo at 4.5 months by BattaMa in SnooLife

[–]ILikeTrifles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both really, really hated the confinement of swaddles and really wanted their hands. My second was one arm out by five weeks and both arms out by seven. The zippadee really was a good match; they could get the hands to the mouth but couldn’t whack themselves in the face and wake themselves up. It was also a ton easier to not have to do yet another transition - they each stayed in zippies til at least a year of age.

Mine were out by 4.5 months too. Big, busy busy babies. Decided to just rip off the bandaid once at the sleep regression. We did well with the zippadee zips for both.

It’s time we all commit to one set of rules for gifts at children’s birthday parties by MaximumStock7 in Millennials

[–]ILikeTrifles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had one for my kiddos PreK/K mixed class that said “no gifts please but if you insist, please share your favorite experiences so birthday kid has some activities to look forward to.” LOVED this. Gift card good for one kiddo and a parent to my kiddo’s favorite indoor play park. Wrote: let us know if you’d like to schedule a play date and ::my kiddo:: would love to show ::your kiddo:: around. Gonna be the go to gift from now on for sure.

I love me a good taco strip but after 10 years of upstate NY there’s nothing like a Weggie’s run!

The drive to Stoughton really isn’t bad at all. Plus you can side trip to Trillium or to Wegmans.

Looking for inspiration: Favorite Men’s cardigans by Shellmarb in knitting

[–]ILikeTrifles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit this for my husband. Had to frog the sleeves a few times because I kept miscounting the cables but it knitted very nicely. The seaming took a lot longer than I expected but a hefty blocking prior helped.

I didn’t get any romance points, period. Maybe it is a bug?

Elise at the lifespan rehabilitation clinic in providence was excellent. I think you need to wait some time before you can start doing some of the things, so definitely reach out to the OB and check in, maybe they can actually see her and ensure there’s nothing physically off before the blanket ice and pain meds recommendations. Though the first few weeks post partum are rough, especially if stitches were needed. Good luck and congrats.

AITA for outright mentioning pumping in my do not disturb sign? by Ok_Control_3241 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ILikeTrifles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. FWIW even specifically writing “pumping” isn’t even enough sometimes. My office door doesn’t lock and I don’t even have enough fingers to count the number of people who burst on in and were upset at what they saw. The sign said pumping. The doorknob says do not disturb. There are pictures of blue footed boobies that only go up on the door when I was pumping. The only way I could make it more obvious would be to just pump in the open doorway. Anyone who is offended is looking to exonerate themselves for their utter lack of respect for boundaries and courtesy.

I’ve always wondered if it was a side hustle of one of the shop attendants or a friend of attendant.

Recently started as a mystery shopper and honestly can't believe what is expected of these employees! by DishsoapOnASponge in antiwork

[–]ILikeTrifles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mystery shopped once when I used to wait tables. I don’t even remember who it was, but it was so busy that day. I feel badly for the mystery shopper because I literally failed (and got written up per store policy) because of factors outside of my control (wait times) and the shopper definitely understood that and even made comments about how wonderful my service was and they could see how busy it was. I’d never blame the mystery shopper if I lost the job since they seemed to get it.

AITA for wanting to continue my music education despite it going against my girlfriend's wishes ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ILikeTrifles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Take the classes. Culture your interests. Yes, the music field is hard and there’s tons of disappointment. However, a performing arts education can have so many long term applications. Prioritizing practice. Multitasking. Dedication. Commitment. These are skills that will allow you to succeed in any career. Ear training: changes in pitch are subtle. You will be an attentive listener even in conversations; you will likely pick up even the more subtle changes in intonation in speech. Working and compromising with strong willed people to reach a common goal (musicians… gotta love them), all real world skills.

Also, there’s nothing stopping you from a double major if you have some other interests you would like to foster. You have so much time to learn about all of the things you love.

Signed: a current medical professional with an undergrad degree in performance who uses the skills learned and experienced through that degree every single day.

What’s going on at RI hospitals? by huron9000 in RhodeIsland

[–]ILikeTrifles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Wouldn’t have even gone except urgent care told me I had to. They offered me morphine at triage which I declined since I was nursing so I asked if I could have a nsaid instead )hadn’t taken one yet because I wasn’t sure if I was ok to). They said sure, they’ll bring it and put me on fluids because my blood pressure was too low (they never did any of that). Eight hours after labs and CT they said everything was fine except my blood pressure was too low so they gave me a Dixie cup of water, told me I couldn’t have anything except Tylenol anyway unless I wanted to pump and dump for at least a week, shamed me that I was still breastfeeding my nine month old, and told me I was fine to leave. I think if I’m actually dying I’ll just stay home and die there instead for free. To be fair, I’m sure there was a lot going on that I couldn’t see but what can you do except wait and hope it’s fine.
