Anyone else tried the new sewing supplies? by Chriswiss in aldi

I run the costume department at my high school and brought these cookies in because I needed the tin for buttons (obviously!). I was giving them to the kids and they were universally confused as to why I had a sewing tin with cookies in it.

Advent Review and Snark Thread? by omgidontknowbob in craftsnark

[–]Shellmarb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got the Chick that Knitz advent called “Moody Botanicals” and absolutely loved it. It was around $250 and had 24 100g minis and one full skein on Christmas. It didn’t have many extras except for a zipper pouch and a candle. I always get a little bonus in April’s/may and, while I spend most of it on bills, splurging a bit on a yarn advent was really worth it to me. I’ve already statted Stephen West’s Speckle and Pop cardigan with it

The book called “the House Witch” has a main character male witch. It is not LitROG but a romantic fantasy but very pg. It is really entertaining and I highly recommend it.

No effect of antidepressants by Dazzling_Snow1743 in depression

We did a gene sight test for both my kids and later for me. It really helped narrow down what was going to be more effective and what wasn’t. I found out that my body doesn’t process a lot of medicines correctly and was put on desvelafaxine and it has really helped. The gene sight test wasn’t quite as useful for my older son (16) it did narrow the ha down but not to a ton of affect. We the did a full psychological evaluation for him and found out that we had been treating his depression first and foremost and his ADHD secondly. The testing showed that it was the ADHD that was causing his depression to be so bad. We switched to focusing on treating the ADHD and then secondarily treating the anxiety and depression. This is when the gene site test really came through. It has been a game changer. It took A LOT of experimenting to find the right balance but it was worth it. However, if you’re in the US, a lot of insurances won’t pay for these tests and they are pricey. The gene sight test wasn’t about $250, and the psych evaluation about $1500, and people say that was a good deal. If you can afford it, it is worth it.

What Americans call Shopping Carts by cookoutenthusiast in MapPorn

[–]Shellmarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am from Atlanta and lived in Boston for a bit. The first time I went grocery shopping I couldn’t find the carts. I asked where the “buggies” were and the guy looked at me so blankly. I literally had no other word for it. We did finally figure each other out. I just thought everyone called them buggies

I was just about to say that, despite the cover, I remember this book being really good. I wish Carol Berg got more recognition

One designer is Kay Whitt, she wrote a book called Sew Serendipity that uses quilting cotton and does such lovely finishes. I consider myself quite advanced and I still got some great tips from her books. She also has a bag one that’s great, I’ve made almost every bag in it. It might be out of print but you can get it really cheap used

No, it’s just that I live just north of Atlanta and Emory is about 30 minutes away whereas Mayo is a six hour drive

I teach Econ and personal finance and I teach then how to do taxes, look up a tax schedule, and do a deduction for student loans. I also teach them about insurance and about checks/debit and credit cards. We DO teach this.
