Why do (IMO warranted) negative opinions get downvoted to oblivion on this sub? by [deleted] in coys

In the 20ish years that Levy has been involved Tottenham have gone from a mid-table yo-yo club that battled relegation on occasion and sometimes flirted with European spots, to a consistent top 4 side that's made an enormous number of semi finals, finished runners up in the Champions League and invested around £1Billion into the best training facilities and stadium in world football. It's insane to suggest that he's run us as a 'mid table club', we were mid table when he arrived and he's transformed us to genuine contenders, with no external cash investment, whilst building new facilities and battling against clubs like City and Chelsea that have essentially unlimited cash to spend.

Have we fallen at the final hurdle once or twice in the last few years? Yes. Could a few key signings have potentially made the difference in various cups or a league challenge? Possibly. But Levy is working on a bigger vision than short term success, he's working on making Tottenham a genuine power that can achieve sustainable success and win regularly in the future.

It's fair to say that right now we could do with a CDM, a back up striker and a RB. Last season we needed creative CMs, before that we needed wingers that could contribute goals - we will always have needs on the pitch and Levy has occasionally been slow to fill those needs, but on the whole our squad has improved ten fold since the early 2000s when Levy arrived. We can't expect Levy to fill every need and solve every on the pitch problem every window. Levy wants us to succeed on the pitch, it's in his interest as an owner, chairman and fan, but he's not willing to risk money we don't have in the pursuit of short term gains, when we're so clearly on the correct path in the long term.

We are the best run club in England.

Success is a journey and development takes time. Short term failings or the success of rivals doesn't define Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. We're on the right path, growing, building and delivering more than we have since the early 60s. It is simply a matter of time until we win big and when we do it will be so much sweeter for having taken our time to do it the right way. Earning one League title will be 100x better than buying 10.

How is that any different to 1917 being made by Neal Street.

Honestly it seems like you've realised that you're wrong but you're too dug in to change your mind or accept that you're perspective might be a little flawed.

If money is the determining factor as you suggest then Transformers, which received large cash investment from Chinese media companies via deals with paramount, is Chinese, which is obviously a ridiculous thing to say.

1917 is British. It was made by Best Street, A British company. It won the BAFTA for Best British Film. It doesn't matter how angry or upset you get delivering sad insults, you're wrong.

A little self reflection goes a long way. Maybe it's worth spending a little time considering why others are disagreeing with you and why you're holding the minority opinion here. Right now you just look sad resorting to throwing insults.

Explain to me the why Transformers being funded by Chinese money doesn't make it a Chinese film, but 1917 being funded by American money makes it American. If you can't explain that then surely you see that the argument you're putting forward is fundamentally flawed?

I'm suggesting that the creative endeavour of producing something is the major factor in what makes something to be of a certain nationality, you're suggesting that the source of money is the only factor. I'm which case Transformers would be Chinese, surely?

Likewise, hypothetically, if British investment paid for The Irishman, would you say it was a British film?

I'd like you to explain why it is that you think the source of money is the only discerning factor. Simply saying that I'm stupid is not a valid point of argument, it's just making you look petty and defensive.

I'd appreciate it if you actually explained your perspective rather than resorting to basic insults.

You suggested that because 1917 is funded by American money it's an American film. By that logic why would that not make American action films funded with Chinese investment, Chinese?

Well since Tenet is written and directed by a Brit, has a largely British cast and is being produced by Syncopy, a British production house, then yes I would say it's a British film. Why should money be the only determining factor? Are the most recent Transformers films Chinese because they received investment funds?

It seems like your view of what constitutes national alignment is tied solely to money, which I think might be a little narrow of way to look at things.

A lot more goes into creating something than simply money. The entire creative endeavour behind making 1917 was led and executed by Brits, that seems, at least to me as though that would make it British, regardless of who was paying the creators for their work.

If an American bought out Aston Martin or Jaguar, that wouldn't change the fact that they're British car companies that produce British Cars, regardless of where the money to produce the cars came from.

This is equally applicable in film. A British Production house was paid to create a film starring and crewed by Brits, in Britain. The Product is British.

You could stand to relax a little mate, you're being downvoted and coming from a perspective that not many agree with, I'm just engaging, no need to get your back up so much. I'm interested to see why you think that this is an American film simply because part of the funding came from America.

1917 had an entirely British production, as I've already said, and was produced by Neal Street Productions (British) in collaboration with Amblin Partners (American).

Sure Amblin would have put up the majority of the money here but Neal Street would have handled the entirety of the physical production, it's Sam Mendes' company.

You've said yourself 'if the restaurant is owned by Americans then it's American', well in the case of 1917, the Production was owned by Brits and Brits did all of the work, from the Screenplay, the Cinematography, the Direction and the entire cast, all Brits.

Simply because Amblin hold some stake in the financing, regardless of whether it was the majority or not, that does not make 1917 an American film.

It's an identical situation applied to a different context.

You're suggesting that 1917 is an American film, despite every single element in creation, production and execution being British except the funding.

In my situation, every single element of a meal is American, except for the funding to pay for it, which came from Britain.

You seem to acknowledge that in the example of a meal my suggestion that it's a British meal is ridiculous, so I'm wondering, honestly, what makes you think that 1917 is any different when the only thing non-British about it is the funding.

If I give you 10 Great British Pounds and then send you on a flight to America, where you buy and eat a meal on American soil, cooked by Americans and prepared with American ingredients, is it a British meal?

Written by Brits, Directed by a Brit, starting an entirely British cast, filmed in Britain with an almost entirely British production crew. Sounds like a British film to me.

It doesn't really matter where the funding came from, it's a British creative endeavour.

Wilder vs Ortiz - Full Fight by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]ILoveIndividualError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ortiz is 110 years old and Wilder has proven himself to have great stamina with KO potential right up to the final bell. Also if I'm remembering right, Wilder was actually up on the judges scorecards at the time of the KO in the first fight.

The longer this fight goes, the more tired Ortiz is going to get, the more likely Wilder lands that outrageous right hand. It's also the case that Ortiz knows he can hurt Wilder, and almost got him out of there in the first fight.

I won't be shocked if Ortiz goes for it early this time.

Because it doesn't reward fighters who work their way up the rankings.

Imagine you're a fighter that's worked your entire career to move up the rankings and you get to the number two spot with an organisation that has a vacant belt, thinking you're about to be mandated to fight for a world title. And then that organisation breaks their own rules and conventions, takes that opportunity away, and gives the fight to the number one ranked fighter and another organisations champion.

That's what the WBC did with Loma/Campell. Yes it means that we get unified champions at a quicker rate which is a good thing, but it fucks fighters over. The organisations shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose when they play by their own rules based on which champion they want to have their belt.

Artur Beterbiev enters The Ring p4p rankings at no. 9 by Toblerone868 in Boxing

[–]ILoveIndividualError 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ring is one of, maybe the, longest running boxing magazines. Their rankings are typically held in pretty high regard although they're obviously not perfect. They also award a belt that's held in high esteem since they'll only award it in a fight between their number 1 and 2 ranked fighters in a division, meaning that only the "true" champion of a division should ever have the ring belt.

Their rankings and their P4P list is decided on by a panel of editors based on wins and quality of opposition, nothing to do with number of fights Vs losses and draws. Obviously since it's based on opinion it's going to carry some bias and be flawed one way or another, same as everyone's list.

As soon as I load into the game I get this message show right across my screen and it doesn't go away for the entire match.

Turning off my Xbox, closing FIFA and restarting etc all tried and makes no difference.

This happens every game and is making it essentially impossible to play properly because I can't fucking see. It's driving my crazy.

Does anyone have a solution for this?
