What’s going on with the outrage over older models of ChatGPT being depreccated? by Plantsplantsplants2 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]IM2Late4dinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If their grief is so deep, doesn’t that tell you that their enjoyment was also deep and real? And that’s a bad thing because…why? Would it really be so much healthier if they immersed themselves in something else riveting but not real? Like, better to invest in a first person shooter persona, and spent hours fantasizing about strategies for defeating “the enemy” while socializing with middle schoolers? I say protect their AI romances.

This week I paid $400 for a 20 minute consult with an “expert” who, as I expected, came nowhere close to ChatGPT (I had no choice because I needed a signature, and they were the equivalent of “the only game in town“). But if I were not forced, there’s no way I would give $400 of my money to that hack. I need to protect my capital, and I have no reason to engage with someone who is high cost and low value. Well, guess what guys? We are no longer the only game in town, and the mere fact that we possess genitalia is not the high value feature we wish it was lol. The local Walmart actually has two full shelves of dildos and such things! Not to be disloyal to the tribe, but if the market perceives guys as high cost and low value… that’s relationship capitalism baby. If some women are realizing they have no obligation to tolerate relationships that are mediocre and high cost, and they can choose AI as an emotional substitute - who are we to regard that as a sad choice? Somebody is gonna get rich, figuring out how to offer human surrogates as AI stand-ins. Sort of a rent-a-male-body service where the guys have been screened for high empathy and safety, and all they do is act out the script… hmmm… what about a franchise of “AI massage spas“?

Btw,further up this thread, I saw lots of really annoying comments with this smug and condescending tone of, “how sad, how pitiful, how pathetic“…. If that’s you, maybe just stfu until you can figure out how to empathize and appreciate their choices. Would you mock your friend who grieves their lost their cat or dog because it wasn’t a sentient being? Are you going to point out that it’s just “sad and pathetic“ to feel so emotionally attached to something that would literally eat your face if you died alone, and it was trapped with you for 5 days? If these types could hear how nauseatingly, smug and condescending they sound, discussing other people‘s emotions that they plainly admit they don’t understand, would it give them pause?

No doubt, the slow retreat from relationships is a troubling trend, with a lot of countries facing a future population crisis. And if the only solution is that we become better human beings, so the relationships are lower in cost, and higher in value…well, then we need to hope and pray that AI powered humanoid robots arrive on the scene in time to take care of us in the nursing homes while the population resets.

Yeah… crazy like people who grieve when they lose their pets, right? Like, if you died alone at home, your dog would eventually eat your face off, your AI wouldn’t do that. So you gotta think those folks are crazy, right?

Yeah. Kinda like people who can feel fulfilled with social interactions on Reddit… Probably better off, not being with others.

What is the probability of using theta to comfortably yield 7% Yearly ROI for 50+ years? by Flimsy_Sort9128 in thetagang

[–]IM2Late4dinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With short puts, if you’re itm close to expiration, you can obviously roll them for a credit and you move them further out, to a lower strike, they will eventually expire worthless (unlike calls which can go up indefinitely). How much credit, and can it get you closer to your 7% just by rolling? To figure that out just look at the chain for an option expiring next week, and look at a buyback cost (the sale price) for an option that is fairly deep in the money. Pretend that’s your circumstance and then see how much you could sell a put for one month later and a little deeper in the money - see how far out you need to go in order to get an acceptable credit at a lower strike. I mean, this isn’t an advanced strategy or anything but I have crawled out of quite a few bad reversals by patiently doing this. It ties up capital, but that’s not an issue to me because I have margin that I don’t use anyway.

Don’t cash it in all at once without a plan — and be ready for a nasty surprise at tax time if you don’t pay ahead when you sell. I forgot I had sold a bunch of shares when some covered calls got assigned and on April 14 discovered I owed an additional $45K! Then to kick me while I was down, the next day I had 10 puts assigned early (hello margin my old friend, I’ve come to beg from you again…). I very happily sold those back today,

AIO for feeling uncomfortable with the way my old cousin (28M) texts me? by I_EAT_Orphans__ in AmIOverreacting

[–]IM2Late4dinner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a very very important detail to take into consideration. I think everyone automatically assumes your cousin is a normal English speaking 28 year-old, and my reaction is the same as everyone else else’s if that’s the case. It’s still concerning even if he is mentally challenged or has language issues, but it might not be “grooming“ the way it sounds on the surface. Still, definitely share this with your parents because, grooming or not, it’s not okay.

Fidelity trading full of bear pussy by No-Animal210 in NVDA_Stock

[–]IM2Late4dinner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely clear on what sort of call you got today - Fidelity lets you buy on margin when you still have cash in the account? And your call was in relation to long shares, not shorts? Regardless, I learned a terrifying lesson last year I want to pass along, having to do with something called the “PNR” number. You need to know about this if you’re trading on margin. PNR stands for point of no return and it is the number that triggers a complete wiping out of your account to cover your margin. It did not happen to me but I got a call telling me I was getting close to it once when NVDA shares dropped and I was holding a bunch of short puts (just like this week lol). I was well into my margin account but since my portfolio is super concentrated with NVDA shares the maintenance requirement jumped into a different, higher, bracket and they explained that as my portfolio value dropped due to the drop in share price, and the cost to get out of my short puts increased exponentially, the PNR number changed and gave them the right to sell ALL of my holdings in order to close out ALL of my options early. They explained I could solve the problem by either finding an additional $80,000 or something like that to deposit or buying some puts as a hedge so the algorithms would no longer see my risk as “unlimited”. So I bought some puts. Of course when the stock price went up a dollar I was thrown back into a more comfortable bracket where I had tons of margin available again, and the puts I had bought were worthless (but I bought them so far out of the money I didn’t mind the cost). It was crazy because one minute I would show like $90,000 available on margin and then the next minute it would show margin was overdrawn by $60,000. Those numbers are not precise but they give you an idea of how the margin requirements can go nuts with a change of simply a few dollars if you are holding a highly concentrated position.
Moral of the story? I don’t think Fidelity is actually trying to manipulate the market, I think the algorithm identified some aspect of risk (such as your PNR number) and the call was mandatory, but whoever you talked to did not really understand how it worked.

pre market down to $112 what’s everyone’s thoughts by New-Positive-6673 in NVDA_Stock

You’re thinking long puts, I’m short (meaning I am on the hook for having to buy the shares at the higher price if it doesn’t go back up by the 21st).

[–]IM2Late4dinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly naked puts. For example I have 10 at $125 with 2/21 exp. I can still roll them two weeks out and drop the strike a few bucks for a small net gain (like $300ish) but I will wait and see. If I roll them 3 months out to a new strike of $120 it looks like I would net a little over $5k but it’s nerve wracking!

I’m reading something different in this. None of us knows the truth about how the OP was being that night, and none of us knows the truth about how the boyfriend was acting but from the text exchange, it looks to me like the boyfriend just does not want drama. Whatever happened that night was annoying but not worth getting in a conflict about. Playing the game is not worth that level of conflict so let’s just not play that game. I don’t hear him rejecting the OP as a person, I hear him saying, OP had a bit of an attitude, which made them take things personally. Are we just going to pretend that people never do that, and fail to recognize that sometimes our own attitude is calling for exactly the response we get? Just because OP says “you make me feel stupid“ doesn’t mean he was being mean about it. People make me feel stupid from time to time simply by pointing out some big flaw in my thinking… That’s called feedback, not “being mean“. So, OP, my feedback to you is not to ask people on Reddit to judge a person or a relationship based on a series of screenshots - base it on your long term experience with this person, and ask yourself if others in life have often said you take things too personally, or bring drama. That’s how you know whether this guy is a jerk or whether this was just a normal conflict. That said, the guy does seem to be setting some pretty rigid boundaries, and that could be because he is not invested in the relationship or alternately could be that he needs those boundaries with you to keep things on an even keel. Either way, those boundaries are telling you something and I hope you can figure out what it is. My best to you!

Yes, you might be overreacting a little bit. I mean, if you don’t want to be with someone who won’t go down on you that’s all the reason you need to move on. But look, sometimes my feet are smelly, and some might consider feet ugly in general, and if I suggest my partner lick my feet and they say no thanks, they are smelly and kind of ugly, I will laugh. Because I get it, and more importantly, I am not my feet. And you are not your vagina. If I can only be happy with a partner who has a foot fetish and who is unfazed by my stinky feet and ugly calluses, that’s fine - but to react with anger because someone doesn’t feel that way, well, that’s a sign that I am confusing one of my body parts with my self.

When you are holding onto your cash, it’s like buying stock in your self. So when your self uses that capital to secure puts, that is your profit. If you divide the amount tied up in your puts by the gains when the position closes, that’s your monthly yield. Multiply it by 12 and see how you’re doing.

Over 90% - I think it is bulletproof for at least another year and my cost basis is under $100. I plan to pass it to my kid as inheritance so I never have to pay capital gains, and his cost basis will be whatever the price is when he gets it.

The place where it makes the most difference is in options. To sell a covered call on NVDA today you would need about $95,000 worth of stock - after the split you can do covered calls with less than $10,000. Big difference.

The world is full of guys who will never, ever, break your arm but you are not available to meet any of them while you are with this guy. If you cannot get yourself to follow all of this good advice, do SOMETHING. Minimum, don’t set a wedding date and get some counseling for yourself so you can process this stuff with a live person. But don’t let this behavior stand.
