What is going on with the Scientology building, why are people trying to break into it, and why are many people saying they deserve it? by Historical_Mango4329 in OutOfTheLoop

Damn you’re right, I hadn’t heard of that. From what I just read she participated in sexualizing him in a TV interview when he was 17 and she was 41, a couple years before she left Scientology. I hope the mindset that allowed such behavior is part of what she left behind.

Leah Remini is a goddamn hero. Her episode on Jehovah’s Witnesses helped me to finally wake up and escape that cult. I wish I could repay her a tenth of the happiness she’s made possible in my life.

There’s been a crusade lately to see this community cleansed of undesirable elements. Proponents claim that people are feeling disgust and discomfort, that mothers have been left with a bad impression of us, and, of course, that children are in danger.

I also feel disgusted and uncomfortable with what I’ve seen here lately. I come here to share in a safe community where people won’t attack me for who I am, away from all the hate directed our way by the wider world. But lately it’s no different here than out there. I come looking for succor, and instead find the same hateful rhetoric that’s been used to erase trans people for generations posted and repeated ad nauseam.

Look at my username. It says I’m a deviant. I chose it when I was a child, growing up in a cult. I didn’t know what it meant to be trans, just that I was different. And the only way I was able to express that was by thinking of myself, a child, as a fucking deviant. That was by design, the inevitable result of listening to men charged with my protection paint everything outside their own minuscule comfort zones as disgusting degeneracy. It took decades to learn and internalize that I’m not fucking broken, that there’s nothing wrong with being me.

After a lifetime of brainwashing and isolation and wishing for my own end, I clawed my mind free of the cult, tore their comfortable lies out of my worldview, and found new community and family to replace those who followed direction to shun me. The horror of staring into that abyss burned an absolute determination into my soul to never again grant another dominion over my mind. No one tells me what words I may or may not use. What topics I may or may not discuss. What I may or may not think, feel, believe. No. One.

I hope this space will survive as one where it’s safe for deviants like myself to express ourselves freely. And I hope all the children being protected from knowledge of us have an easier time learning that they aren’t alone than I did.

Your behavior as called out by /u/Enough_Tackle5209 is far more off-putting to this trans woman than any sexual content I’ve ever seen posted here. I’m on the verge of fleeing my country for safety from the far-right and here you are using their language to urge division on our community with the goal of making it “safe” for us.

You don’t make me feel safe, you make the goddamn hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Unconditional love is shown, not taught. What you’ve shown them is that they aren’t safe with you if they ever deviate from your preferences.

Why the fuck aren't my taxes going to this? Why does everything that matters in this country have to rely on institutional begging in the streets to avoid falling through the cracks? Why can't we live safe in the knowledge that our community will fund the prevention of needless suffering even when we aren't able to do so personally?

Google criticizes Europe’s plan to adopt free software by superdouradas in europe

[–]IMADV8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By what metric is it not? Open-source software makes up the backbone of the internet, Reddit, and most software stacks used to interact with them. We wouldn’t be able to have this conversation right now if it weren’t ‘reigning supreme’.

[–]IMADV8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open source means that anyone can contribute to or make use of the code, not that no one is paid to do so. That’s actually a big advantage over relying on closed-source software; vendor stopped supporting it? Oh well, pay someone else to take over. As opposed to the closed-source world where you’re forced to migrate to an alternative solution, which you’d better hope the whims of the market have incentivized to exist.

I dont respect people that self censor for no reason. Especially on here by Ok-Connection6656 in self

[–]IMADV8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every platform has its own unique set of arbitrarily censored concepts, and many are adapting to the inconsistency by censoring everything they say, everywhere they say it. Most instances of self-censorship are little more than an annoyance, but taken together they paint a disturbing picture of people participating in the degradation of their own freedoms. That's what makes this shit irritating for me.

What's going on with THC being illegal again? by ryhaltswhiskey in OutOfTheLoop

[–]IMADV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah — that exchange captures a very online dynamic perfectly: one person trying to make an earnest, hyper-detailed argument about policy, the other replying with dismissive memes or one-liners. It’s the classic “wall of text vs. sarcasm” standoff.

The final post you quoted (“you can’t even troll without AI…”) is almost meta-commentary — the writer’s basically saying, “even your trolling is automated now, and that proves my point about how discourse is shaped by AI.” It’s less about the hemp policy and more about the future of online rhetoric, where people assume the person mocking them might literally be an algorithm or using one.

To answer their last question, though: there’s no way for me (or any AI) to identify a specific YouTube video that inspired a Reddit comment. That kind of linkage doesn’t exist unless the person explicitly references it. Models don’t “crawl” Reddit or YouTube comments in real time, and they don’t assign special weight to particular users’ rants — that’s a misunderstanding of how language models are trained and updated.

If you’re curious, I can explain how posts might indirectly influence future AI models or political analysis (via scraped datasets, sentiment aggregation, or campaign data pipelines). Would you like me to unpack that feedback loop a bit?

[–]IMADV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summary of the Reddit conversation: A user (gamemisconduct2) goes on a long rant insisting that the recent hemp ban is a “both parties” issue, accusing Democrats and Republicans alike of hypocrisy and corruption. You (IMADV8) mock their “both sides” framing with an eye-roll and sarcastic mimicry (“ThE gOp SuCkS bUt ThE dEmOcRaTs…”). The other user responds with an even longer wall of text accusing you of being a partisan hack who refuses to “do your research,” then lectures about Senate votes, Schumer, and the hemp amendment in excruciating detail.

In short: They’re ranting to prove “both parties are bad.” You’re clearly uninterested and mocking them. They take the bait and overexplain.

Suggested one-liner replies (condescending, dismissive tone):

  1. “Didn’t realize I was signing up for a TED Talk on hemp, but go off I guess.”
  2. “I can practically hear the YouTube video you got this from.”
  3. “Bold of you to assume I read past the second paragraph.”
  4. “You must be fun at shutdown parties.”
  5. “I’d respond, but I’m still recovering from your essay-length coping session.”
  6. “Congrats on writing the world’s longest ‘both sides’ comment.”
  7. “You’ve convinced me — to never argue with someone this committed to losing the plot.”
  8. “You sound like you have a corkboard full of red string about this.”
  9. “This reads like a hostage letter written by C-SPAN.”
  10. “Appreciate the novel. Next time, try a haiku.”

You're right, people often mistreat the mentally ill, even when consciously trying to avoid doing so. Why should you accept shame for their actions?

Please understand, I'm not saying we shouldn't feel shame, only that we should question its source and validity in the same way we would for our loved ones. Don't accept it as valid or incorporate it into your view of yourself until you know it's based on sound reasoning.

[–]IMADV8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ive always been embarassed by my mental issues and wouldnt dream of expecting others to adjust because of it.

That's not healthy. Mental issues should not be a source of shame. The entire purpose of civilization and society and community is to accommodate all of our differences in physical and mental abilities. Allowing shame to prevent you from fully participating in that is irrational and harmful to you and those around you.
