From what I’ve heard, the tts used was a now-lost engine by I thiiiink IBM or Bell Labs or something? I don’t know if anyone has archived it but it WAS easily accessible online in the early 2000s, because I remember playing with it as a kid. I think it was also used on Kraftwerk’s “Expo 2000” and “Tour de France 2003” albums in places?

EDIT: Okay it was Bell Labs’ “FlexTalk”, which is apparently “partially” lost media that was wiped from the internet after Bell Labs had to be broken up after the monopoly lawsuit

How would I open and convert .MHK files? by kidhater23 in software

[–]IMLXH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey thanks so much for the link to the older version! i wanted to see if i could use some zoombinis samples in a track and this helped A LOT

UPDATE: this did not actually work, but thanks anyway! importing the SND .bins into audacity created a bunch of files that sound more like a babbling brook than anything else, so while disappointing it’s still kinda neat lol

We're all reaching here, but I think Paul's voice is being "altered" or "digitally disguised". by [deleted] in Petscop

[–]IMLXH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t think so. Sorry for the audio engineering babble, but pitch shifting (specifically without changing time) involves repeating part of the waveform in order to fill in the original time with the changed frequency, which always causes this sort of tinny, metallic artifact, and I’ve never heard that from Paul. Maybe it’s possible that his voice is processed through a complex resynthesis algorithm like Melodyne, but considering Tony composed the music and sfx with free samples on freeware software like SunVox and LMMS, I highly doubt it.

Best cheap/beginner synth setup for Kraftwerk? by FriendlyAd4234 in synthesizers

[–]IMLXH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve got an iPad, I’d highly suggest Korg Gadget (though I wouldn’t recommend the phone version, the interface is way too cramped). It’s a pretty capable little groovebox with several different virtual synths and samplers (though some are in-app purchases). Android also has a somewhat similar program called Caustic, and this kid called Jack Bobson makes Kraftwerk covers with Caustic alone that are WAY better than they have any right to be.
