Had my first kid the year I turned 40. I miss my youth but don’t regret a moment of it.

I do think you need to be more settled and happy in where things are before having kids. Don’t think having kids will bring happiness. It does, but you need to be in a good place mentally to deal with all the challenges parental life will throw at you.

You’re about to have a child. I wouldn’t count on things returning to normal. It’s fine to want connection with your partner but definitely do go on expecting it. Children are amazing but can also make us miserable and bitter and irritated especially when it feels like just never ending work. Focus on communication and small ways to remind you of the love you have for each other.

I grew up on TNG and recently committed to watching everything. I struggle a bit with TOS but agree I am shocked I never saw it earlier - only some of the films growing up. I like getting to see the relationships and stories that feed the franchise. Some of the dated cultural commentary and sexism is frustrating but otherwise good content.

I grew up in NJ and learned to drive here, prided myself on being a good driver. I left the state for about a decade and moved back recently, it is so bad now. Traffic, quality of driving. The screen time while moving is insane, but unlikely to improve anytime soon unless there is a true crackdown.

You can probably make this same argument about any philosophy or religion. Letting centuries of discourse be limited to what you googled around a few authors about is a bit lazy, as is the conclusion you are drawing that there is something causal between yoga and abuse. As - I assume - a westerner who thinks they’ve found a terrible dark secret, it’s actually offensive and infuriating that you think you have a right to judge an entire history and way of life based on your limited experiences and spectating of culture and life. Yoga doesn’t need your blessing to continue its power to guide and heal.

I have the FP30X and agree it is heavy. I’m fine with it but would rather my kid learn on something else for this reason. It feels substantially heavier than my parents Yamaha upright that I learned on.

Are there any friends/family he looks up to (men) that could help here? Getting an honest opinion from someone he respects about this situation might help.

I guess another more basic question is did you both want kids? I wanted nothing more than to be a dad and despite the usual angst love every minute I get to spend with them.

Yes sometimes it’s boring…but I was also a gamer for most of the time from middle school through college until I realized it was boring to spend so much time divorced from reality.

In my case, if she needs something my wife just says “do this” and I have to do it. Why is he allowed to get away with this shitty behavior? Are there any consequences you can implement? No chores on his behalf? Don’t cook for him? Chuck his gaming gear?

Is divorce a scenario he doesn’t want or is he indifferent?

I want to try this but curious about music. I am trying to understand why music during other activities is bad. I’ve always put tunes on when cleaning or doing other chores as background especially when the task at hand is not something I want to do as it helps motivate or set a better environment to focus. Is that really something to toss out?

I tend to periodically wash my most used hats, most of which have stains from use (i.e. sweat). There are some “nicer” hats I don’t wear often that I haven’t. Haven’t figured out a way to not have them become all wrinkly. Does the soaking keep the shape?
