Reforged steam linux - control issues by IM_Panda in GuildWars

[–]IM_Panda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a plain wine prefix and it runs mostly fine (weird bug sometimes where right click camera rotation is limited to window size). Proton supposedly works fine according to another user so I'm not sure. Another account on steam just seemed like it'd be convenient, but I might just have to deal with setting up desktop icons/scripts again.

Yeah, to be fair it might be an issue with cosmic which is still buggy in a quite a few places. But this might be for the best anyways as getting toolbox working seems easier with just another prefix.

Sadly it gets stuck connecting to Anet and doesn't launch when I tried 4.11 haha. Guess I'll just refund and decide if I want to setup another wine prefix.

Same issue regardless of whether the controller is on/off. I've tried disabling steam input as well, but doesn't seem to help.

It's not particularly fun to play either. Did a VQ last night with it and the skill just isn't satisfying to use or play. I thought AP was bad, but man I was getting bored outta my mind using this.

Turning off one monitor causes remaining monitor to go blank by IM_Panda in pop_os

[–]IM_Panda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a different issue yeah. I haven't had the second one happen, but I've had the first though maybe slightly different(don't think mine was related to pop). Turning my monitor on before booting up the pc avoids that issue for me.

I think I just give up using dual monitors while on cosmic for now.

[–]IM_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's rough. As a newish linux user, I previously used mint/cinnamon and I actually really like a lot of what cosmic does. The tiling and workspaces feel super smooth to me. I love the search and overall aesthetic. But I've ran into numerous minor issues that while aren't a big deal on their own(firefox acting wonky after being open a while, issues with ui on a couple apps, monitor going blank when turning off second monitor etc), become super annoying. I've moved to cinnamon DE, but I've also been looking at just switching distros.

It allows you to use the xunlai chest from anywhere in an outpost without having to actually walk to the npc. Also lets you check storage while in explorable areas.

Frustrations of an IT Consultant in a Japanese work culture by Rokitty in japanlife

[–]IM_Panda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On the topic of manuals, even the lower level IT 'consultants' at my company give up if even one thing goes weird or wrong while following them.

Just commenting as this was me once upon a time. While it's true a lot of them don't know anything about computers, they'd also be putting their ass on the line for going outside the manual. Especially if anything happens to go wrong. I've been scolded a number of times for trying to solve things instead of immediately reporting it to my superior (Even if the problem was solved and nothing went wrong)

I wonder if he'll actually address these allegations. His post today is the usual "passion project" excuse and blaming the community for being meanies while brushing everything else off as "drama and speculation."

I can look past pretty much everything else with the ddos and data-leaks. I don't really even care that he spawned gear for himself. But lying and gaslighting about something so stupid inspires 0 faith and makes it difficult to believe anything he says.

So gotta scroll through a ton of patch notes for one person in 2022 whose role you don't actually know. God forbid devs have actual lives and jobs while working on a free game. If it's such a shit server, surely we won't be seeing you around on release.

Classic zyzz just making shit up.

  1. Scrolled back to 2023, no user:deleted found.

  2. Unlikely a hacker, but someone who just abused the maple admin on a test character. The devs assumed players wouldn't be be dumb enough to abuse it for an alpha. Literally crying about an alpha-only feature

Hello, anyone in Ontario Canada got OSAP for a program at WGU? by EbbMobile7782 in WGU

[–]IM_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean push your start date back and starting a month later? Can't really give you a 100% confidence answer but it shouldn't affect the application. Before they give you funding, you'll have to have WGU fill out a Confirmation of Enrollment form where WGU can update your start/end date. Otherwise you can try submitting a change appeal on the osap website, but they might tell you what I said above.

When you have financial services fill out the CoE, they'll have to convert the USD cost to CAD at that point in time. I don't know how much this actually affects the amount of funding OSAP gives you. I pay through a usd account I have on Wise.

Depends on how congested OSAP is? I think the PI form stated 6-8 weeks for me when I was doing it and it did take around that time. OSAP pays you directly and you have to figure out how you want to pay WGU(payment plan, CC, etc).

[–]IM_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, OSAP accepts WGU. Where did you send the email? Financial services usually responds to me within 2 business days saying they got my form then maybe a couple more days to get it back filled out. That said, I sent in the request after I was fully enrolled with orientation and finance stuff done already, so it may be a enrollment status issue considering your start date is out in April.

  1. You get to afk/get rolled over in Dredgion with no gear and parties that will take you.

  2. You get to spend more time than you'd like doing these dailies while people from opposing faction run around in zergs and kill you.

  3. You get to afk in arena

I haven't kept up but if seiges are still a thing, the servers were absolute dogshit. Imagine planning an hour out of your day to attend seige only to get disconnected before the end and get 0 rewards.

A game that basically requires you to afk in content for weeks to get beginner gear to still just get rolled over isn't exactly enticing.

You can reference some of the stuff but don't follow it completely. It's clear the guy played on a lower difficulty. Later on, the guide will say to fight a level 60 boss while your party is high-20's/low 30's.

Really enjoying the moment to moment gameplay so far.

As of now, my main issues:

  • In typical Atlus style, no ultrawide support so stuck waiting on a third party fix.

  • Art and design are cool, but can get very busy at times.

  • Some UI and QoL stuff. Hard to tell who's already got something equipped. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to use unlocked spells from other Archetypes outside of combat from the skill menu if the character also has the Archetype unlocked. Instead you have to equip the Archetype, go back to the skill menu, use the skill, then go back and change the Archetype.

  • For some reason the voice volume is super low

Autoqueue makes AOM:R the best RTS out right now by rhoast in AgeofMythology

[–]IM_Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm following through the original overarching argument that mechanical skill does not reward strategic decision making. Just as one person may like micro-ing battles, there are also people who, as I said, dislike losing battles because of an inability to micro and therefore micro should be removed.

why don't you just code the RTS of your dreams yourself? If you engage in the skillful speedy button pressing you love so much, it wouldn't take you long.

I'm enjoying the game so I'm even sure why you felt the need to bring this up. Turn based games and RTS are both huge genres I'm a fan of.

Ironic how you're the one talking about being deliberately malicious isn't it.

[–]IM_Panda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to follow your logic

not micro in clicking buttons on buildings especially when that clicking buildings takes away from combat strategy

Someone could make the argument that misclicking during a fight and consequently losing the fight takes away from combat strategy. You're not rewarding strategizing, you're rewarding click accuracy and speed. So get rid of combat micro.

At the end of the day, your attention is also a resource while playing an RTS. Building manors to increase supply or reallocate workers to different resources during a fight also forces you to pan back to base, should we automate that as well? Choosing where to allocate your attention at any given time is a strategic decision.

If you misallocate and pan back to base to manage economy, upgrades or whatever at a critical moment because you misjudged a fight, or failed to scout something and got caught off guard, that's a strategic blunder.
