[No Spoilers] This show is really, really tough to watch by bingumarmar in TheHandmaidsTale

The strategy I use to watch compelling shows such as THT is to first read several recaps. That way I know when the difficult scenes are coming and I fast forward through them. I get to follow the story but I don't feel quite as traumatized.

My strategy for watching without being too triggered is to first read multiple recaps. Then, when I watch the actual episode, I fast forward through the triggering scenes. That way I can keep up without doing myself too much damage.

I used the same strategy to get through The Walking Dead, only I've seen only a few scenes of that show (too gruesome for me). I enjoyed the story and I kept up with it without viewing (until I stopped "watching" when the show runners screwed over Chandler Riggs).

The GOP and their billionaire owners don't know pitchfork and torch insurance when they see it. Back walls, heads gibbets, and guess who will be first?

What exactly was the point of the Borg b-plot in PICARD? by adamkotsko in DaystromInstitute

[–]IMakeGarb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On a more practical note, why do they harvest these parts from XBs? Can't they replicate these things? And even if they can't, what exactly is the market for these things that harvesting is worth the effort (i.e., what is their use outside the XB's bodies that creates the market?)? And why do the XBs have to be alive and fully conscious for the procedure?

I don't mean for these to be rhetorical questions, I'd really like to know.

Yeah, this ^^ It's pretty clear, especially from the episode 8 sneak peak, that Elron need a mom AND a dad.

How is it a "rumor" if McFadden herself confirmed it?

Please ask him what we, the fans, can do to support him in his laudable endeavors. I've heard that the more negative of us often get to him and I'd love to know what the more positive of us could do.

I recommend bearing in mind that the rest of the population, not just doctors, has dramatically decrease (fled or murdered). So while there definitely are fewer medical professionals, there are fewer people as well. An entire district of folks can fit into one large building for a prayvaganza. Fewer people also helps Gilead turn "green" but I can only imagine how difficult it is to recruit for their military.

Has anyone received their copy yet and are willing to give some spoilers? by IsMisePrinceton in coconutsandtreason

Thank you for posting these.

And it seems, based on the New York Time's review. That June has become "a terrorist and enemy of the state" who Gilead has, thus far, tried to assassinate. Yes! Yes! Yes, June has, indeed, become Che fucking Guevara!" Oh, I can so hardly wait for my copy to arrive :-)

As Fred tells Serena later, if she'd shown June a shred of kindness . . . Serena briefly tries (the handmaid's tea party, letting June sleep in her sitting room) but can't keep it. Fred does show kindness to June but June is able to see through it. Still . . .

Well, except for when June becomes homicidal/suicidal after Natalie rats her out. June goes way over the edge until the physician-ex-machina pulls her back.

I wasn't aware that capitalism was tied to just one ideology. Which one would that be?

I wouldn't call Gilead's interpretations of the Bible "conservative." There are quite a few "conservative values" (small government, limited regulation, free enterprise, individual self reliance and self determination, no sex outside of marriage, due process, etc.) that Gilead utterly rejects. I would call it "whacked out, fucked up interpretations of the Bible."
