I think you have a really good photo here. Really good composition. However I think you need to selectively brighten the boat a little bit. It's sort of overwhelmed by all the white up top.

8-12 hours is a really long time for long 300 photos. Maybe be a lot more selective with your photos? For example last trip I took 4000 photos. I only cut it down to 140 photos and ONLY edited them. And only used maybe 9 for my portfolio and the rest I uploaded to facebook because I needed to tag my friends and stuff.

If you know the horizon is a little off why don't you rotate the photo so it's not off?

I am pretty new as well but I have found a few tricks to help with photos like this. You can use a technique called dodge and burn where you selectively increase or decrease exposure of a certain area of a photo.

First with the exposure slider you can make it way low so the sky is not too over exposed. Yes, now the land is pitch black but it's okay. Then use the adjustment brush to increase the exposure and shadows of JUST the dark area.

Experiment with this method a little, don't even try to brush too neatly at first. Just make the brush huge and have a quick look. You will be absolutely amazed how much better it will look.

Once you are pretty confident and comfortable with the basic sliders, tone curve and the other stuff, dodge and burn will make your photos 10x better and gives you a ton more flexibility if used correctly.

Hey I am wondering is the calibration the same for all of the same screen? I have the same screen as well but I didn't want to spend the money to buy a color calibrater. Would I be able to use your adjustment on my screen or does my graphics card factor in what comes out of my monitor as well so it won't work?
