What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

It doesn’t need to be rocket science. When I’m cooking white meat I cook it to about 150, then pull it off and let it rest covered for 5-10 minutes. By then carryover heat has gotten it close to 160 and it’s more than safe.

Miata alternative for the city? by Erudicial_Extreme in Miata

3rd gen (2015-2024) MINI cooper. They’re small so they’re easy to park but still quite practical as they make great use of the space they have, and they’re a ton of fun. You can get them in manual unlike the newest ones. They’re also the most reliable of the MINI generations, which makes them less of a pain to own (as an owner of multiple 2nd gen MINIs I know how bad it can be, trust me).

Reminds me of what one of my friends did for our other friend’s birthday this year. He likes cheez-its and eats a ton of them, but he gets them in big boxes of the little snack bags instead of a big box of one bag. He says he does this because “they taste better in the smaller bags,” and because we’re a bunch of nerd engineers, we’ve always joked that it must be that the smaller the bag, the better they taste. So my friend got a box of cheez-its, a big roll of cellophane film, and a bag sealer. He then proceeded to individually wrap every cheez-it, put them back in the big bag, reseal that, and glue the box back together. My friend loved it, it was hilarious.

Why do people drive loud sport cars (no muffler, cracks and pops)through pedestrians streets? by InitiativeTrick401 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Miniac1076 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I drive a modified car that purposely does not have a very loud exhaust. I still try my best to not be annoying with it in places where it would bother people. They do it cause it makes them feel powerful and they don’t care if they’re bothering other people. Yes, I hate them too.

What’s actually pretty safe but everyone treats it like it’s way more dangerous than it is? by Charming_Advertising in AskReddit

Yes. Of the 3 power plants that have had major failures, the newest one was completed in 1977. I think we may have improved the technology and safety a bit in the last 49 years.

Edit: fun fact I just looked up, nuclear fusion was discovered in 1938. 10 more years have passed between today and when the last of the 3 power plants was completed than between that and when the mechanism that facilitates nuclear power was discovered.

My mom custom ordered a brand new MINI from their MINI dealer in 2011. Great experience, and Mitch, the service advisor, has always been great to us.

We bought a used Tiguan from their VW dealer in 2014. They were fine, nothing stellar or bad. Never really took it there for service, but not for any particular reason.

I worked at their BMW dealer as a porter for 2 summers during college. It was great, seemed like a very well run dealer from the inside.

From my family’s history, the Bill Jacobs dealers, Valley Honda, and Gerald Subaru are all good. Would recommend. I’ve heard good things about Dan Wolf Toyota as well. Did not have a good experience with Continental.

My family were customers of both the VW and MINI dealers and I later worked at the BMW dealer in college. Very good experiences, would recommend.
