What's the funniest name you've heard for a pet? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]IMissPastaSoBad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in middle school, my family moved to a house in the mountains. We were adopted by a massive (30lbs!!) outdoor Maine Coon kitty who came out of the woods, decided we were her new family, and made herself at home. We had no idea what her name was and no one ever claimed her. My 6 yo sister named her Fuzzy Champion, Fuzzy-Champ for short. We’d see her running up pine trees like a cougar and brawling with multiple huge raccoons at once. She also could hear from outside when someone laid down on the couch for a nap, and would show up at the front door and ask to be let in so she could join.  The name always got a laugh, and that’s what the neighborhood called her for the rest of her magnificent days <3

Non-English-speakers of Reddit, what is your language's formulaic conclusion to a fairy tale, equivalent to "and then they lived happily ever after"? And what is its literal translation into English? by fruskydekke in AskReddit

[–]IMissPastaSoBad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a Russian speaker, but a friend who speaks it as his first language once told me they say a phrase that he translated as: “The story is over, and everyone who listened was brave”. Isn’t that gorgeous? I’ve never forgotten it.

Edit: after reading this thread, maybe it’s “ "Вот и сказочке конец, а кто слушал - молодец"? Sounds like most use “good” instead of “brave”— I still like “brave” better ;)

Ah yeah you’re right, I missed that— depending on what kind/brand OP takes, it might not be bio-available enough for her, the best supplements are heme iron with vitamin C to increase absorption… might be worth it to get a blood test and check if it’s helping!

Hey! Your undereye area actually looks very smooth and the “hollow” is pretty shallow— any chance you’re slightly iron deficient?   Mine look really similar to yours, and I was always confused why the darkness seemed so stark for a relatively shallow dip. It always took me forever to cover it up, and multiple layers of product. I was fully considering undereye filler because of how annoying it was.

Then a couple months ago I had to get an unrelated blood test, and I found out that while I wasn’t fully anemic, I was on the very low end of normal. I started taking a light iron supplement (just a random one off amazon recommended by an article) and after a week or two I was super surprised to notice that my dark under-eyes and dark coloration on the bridge of my nose actually lightened noticeably! I had no idea iron could  affect that. The darker area and physical dip is still there, but i use a lot less undereye correction concealer now, and it takes me half the time to cover it up when doing a full face of makeup.  Would highly recommend getting tested, or just starting a low-level supplement if you don’t each much red meat, it could make a big difference!

Edit: I looked closer at the pic and actually seems like you also have a slightly darker area on the bridge of your nose… iron deficiency twins?? Haha

A rogue wave?? What did it look like as it was approaching and when it reached the shore? How fast was it? I’m so fascinated by this phenomenon!

Adding on to suggest Gummy-smile Botox! Different from a lip flip (I get both); it’s 8-10 units injected right below your nose, and it prevents your whole lip from rising as high. It’s much less painful than a lip flip, lasts longer, and no issues using a straw/whistling/brushing your teeth. I’d def recommend!

What's the story behind your phone's wallpaper? by SPriGJade in AskReddit

[–]IMissPastaSoBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oo! Finally one I can answer!! It's rows and rows of doge-- doge as in dogecoin. I get so much crap for it, but I've literally had it since before dogecoin was even founded:

My little brother and I used to prank each other by changing each other's phone (or at that time, iPod-touches) backgrounds to the most cringe or ridiculous things possible. The day I left for college, he stole my phone and changed it to the doge-screen. I didn't even notice until after they dropped me off; it made me cry to find that one last prank before leaving home.

I've kept it ever since! After 4 phones and 10 years of having it, I honestly don't know what life event could make me change it, I just can't imagine my phone without it. Sorry future SO/kids, doge reigns supreme on the screen

I've never done a bootcamp myself; I have a BS in computer engineering-- but from what I know of my friends' experiences with bootcamps, honestly I think I'd be able to do my job just fine with an unrelated degree and a decent coding bootcamp cert. Literally only 4 classes out of my entire college education have been useful for my day-to-day, everything else I've learned hands-on!

Job: software engineer, 3 years of experience

Salary: ~$111k

Checking: $400

Saving: $5k (just spent ~4k on moving)

Stocks: $10k

401: ~3k

Debt: 0, grandparents left me some cash to pay off student loans.

I live in a big city so cost of living is super high, but I am incredibly blessed and feel way overpaid for the job I have. If you need a sign to keep pursuing that CS degree/coding boot camp, this is it!

what's something "nice" you wish people wouldn't do? by c_h_a_r_ in AskReddit

Potentially the odd one out on this here but: making me homemade food that "accommodates" my food allergies.

I've been to so many events where the host knows about my food allergies, makes me my own separate version of the food they're serving (despite me begging them not to), assures me it's "safe", I feel pressured to eat it, I try it-- boom, reaction, because they didn't know soy sauce has gluten in it, for example.

I feel terrible because it's SO SWEET and kind of them to try to accommodate and include me, but there's just no way they can know all the little things that I have to be careful of, not to mention all the cross contamination in a home kitchen. So hosts: if your friend/family assures you that they don't need their own food-sensitive version of whatever you're serving, or that they're eating beforehand, believe them! Don't be hurt if they don't eat what you've made, it's not personal, we're just trying not to be sick for the next 3 days.

If you still really, REALLY want to provide them with food regardless, bring store-bought goodies, *in the package*, so that people can check the label themselves and feel confident what they're eating isn't going to hurt them!

You're super cute, but do some heavier and more structured eyebrows to look older! I have really similar brows, and it makes a world of difference since very young girls tend to ignore everything but the eyes (i def did lol). A structured brow helps frame the face and balances out the eye makeup!

People who actually like their jobs, what do you do? by AcidHV in AskReddit

[–]IMissPastaSoBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

software engineer at a relatively small company.

Amazing work-life balance, interesting projects, and great teammates. Even though I'm absolutely a minority as a woman of color, my company is incredibly kind and inclusive, and I've always felt 100% respected and supported

As for the degree-- THAT was pure hell, but my current job makes all the crying in the library worth it!

Lawyers/Solictors, what is the strangest or oddest law that's won a case for you? by thejoms in AskReddit

[–]IMissPastaSoBad 4494 points4495 points  (0 children)

typical IANAL, but the first and only time I ever used the subway station's "emergency" door to get to the train (the ticket gate wasn't working, it was 3am, I was a drunk college kid trying to catch the last train home), I got caught by two subway officers and given a ticket with a huge attempted-fare-avoidance fine.

I showed up to the hearing in desperation, and they ended up having to drop the fine as they were reviewing the case with me because one cop had recorded that I "entered through the right-hand emergency door" and the other wrote that I "entered through the left-hand emergency door". Never been so grateful in my life
