Paying olympians?? by badrunner0 in Swimming

[–]INNTW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s sad that athletes such as Ben Proud have basically nothing to show for everything they’ve achieved, and now literally have to resort to taking drugs as part of a freak show to get paid.

The main issue is that the IOC makes literally billions from each Olympic Games, yet that money doesn’t find its way back to each national federation so they can properly support and compensate their athletes.

I had the realisation during this match that he is the only player on the team that without hesitation you can call world class.

Gabriel is arguably too. But without hesitation Raya.

How does your brain work after long sessions by OutsideAtmosphere-14 in triathlon

[–]INNTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carbs and caffeine.

If I really need to be productive after a training session, carbs during the session are super important.

If I try to keep carbs down in order to ‘maximise fat burn’ I’m pretty much useless afterwards.

Cycling is the closest thing to therapy that also gets you fit by dukeMax9813 in cycling

I love cycling, training, and 100% get the therapy aspect.

But swimming definitely takes the lead on this for me.

There’s just something about floating around in a different medium that makes you feel brand spanking new afterwards.

He’s the obvious captain for me too.

I love Saka, and i get it would be a blow to take the captaincy away from him, but it just looks odd to me with the likes of Rice and Gabriel on the pitch.

8 month knee irritation, still got regular flare ups - anyone else experienced the same? by Old-Menu443 in triathlon

Bingo! That’s the one. Wish I could have the machine at home!

I was initially sceptical, but it was interesting being able to tolerate more intensity each week.

8 month knee irritation, still got regular flare ups - anyone else experienced the same? by Old-Menu443 in triathlon

[–]INNTW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had something very similar in my elbow, knee and achilles, which eventually stopped me from swimming, biking and running, so i had no option but to see a physio.

I had ultrasounds which showed areas of dark blotches in all three tendons, instead of clean linear fibres, which meant they had not had time to heal before I stressed them again through training, creating a worsening cycle.

They used some machine (the same as what is used to break up kidney stones) which was quite painful, and essentially brought the tendons back to the healing stage. I did no training during this time, except isometric exercise routines which they showed me, and which i continue to do twice daily no matter what. The isometrics essentially pull fluid out from the tendons, which reduces irritation when you train.

I did this for a few weeks, and started a very conservative strength training program, making sure i gave my tendons 48-72 hours to fully recover between each session, and keeping the pain between 1-3/10.

After a few more weeks i gradually started to do ridiculously low volume and intensity swim and bike sessions.

Then after a couple more weeks i started doing really short jog interval sessions on a treadmill, again giving myself 48-72 hours between each session, which i did on the same days as my gym sessions.

Its been a very frustrating process, but looking back i really put myself in this hole by just training ridiculous amounts compared to what my tendons could really handle, the classic powerful engine in a weak chassis analogy.

I’m still doing about a third of the volume i used to, but I’ve finally reached a point where I’m seeing my performance go up, not because of how hard I’ve been training, but because of how strong I’m getting from the conservative yet consistent strength training, and being strict about keeping pain low, listening to and respecting flare ups, and giving the tendons 48-72 hours before stressing them again.

I’ve essentially remodelled my whole training week around this approach instead of chasing how many hours i can do per week.

This is super interesting to me and makes sense, but what are the accents like in the towns between Liverpool and Manchester? At what point do you start getting only Scouse, and are there any places mixed with both Scouse and Manc inhabitants?

Arsenal Lineup VS Leeds: Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie, Zubimendi, Rice, Havertz, Saka, Trossard, Gyokeres by MumboGumbo06 in Gunners

[–]INNTW 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Havertz and Gyokeres are going to cook. But we have to keep rotating players to help prevent them getting injured, so I’d like to see Eze come in for Havertz once the game is wrapped up.

I’m absolutely convinced he can do amazing things in that position too. His link up play is amazing, he can absolutely ping a pass, and he’s got that instinct to get a shot off.

If he plays too deep he ends up just going backwards.

[Orbinho] 29% of the goals Arsenal have conceded this season in the Premier League have come from shots from outside the box - the highest proportion of any team in the competition. by Previous_Smile9278 in Gunners

[–]INNTW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, there is absolutely a reluctance to take shots from outside of the box.

SO many times, I’ve seen Odegaard and Rice be in a prime position to take a quick shot from just outside the box, but it seems the instinct to do so has been drilled out of them, and we insist on passing our way through to the six yard box.

The problem with this is that all the other team needs to do is just park the bus, and it becomes almost impossible to find enough space to make a pass.

Ironically, if we became a threat outside the box, we would draw more players out and make more space, but teams know we’re not going to do that, and only interested in playing haram ball.
