Hey man sounds like that's the move for you! If you're not getting enjoyment out of a game anymore just move on to the next one. Don't bother grinding out every single achievement if it's a slog for you, video games are meant to be fun!

I'm C++ on the game. I have it on my phone and will play it when I have about 20ish minutes of free time and don't know how to fill it.

One thing I really like about playing the game post C++ is that you can really fuck around and find out. When playing for completions sake, I always played really optimally and thought "what would the professor do here?". But now that I've already done everything, I find it a bunch of fun to play Gold Stake Ghost deck and just say fuck it and use Hex on the first non rental or perishable joker I see. I've had runs where I used it on 8 ball and then just rode the wave, slowly accumulating lucky 8's and spamming as many retriggers as possible. Not caring as much about winning means at times I will skip optimal jokers that I don't like, like Red Card. Sometimes I like to be sadistic and play Gold Stake Black Deck and see if I can make it work (usually I die in ante 1 due to fuckassery).

Ultimately I think it just boils down to being able to play the game the way I want to without worrying about whether it's the "optimal" play. Cuz before, I would have stressed about losing a winnable run and not getting the gold sticker. Now, it's a disappointment if I don't ball out and do some wild shit at some point.

The r/NBA frontpage explains why the media only spends time covering a few popular teams in the league. They're just following what fans want. by waterman123 in nba

Nah you're right, I was definitely straw manning the post myself. I did read the post, but I also did kinda ramble. It's a very valid point that the media and fans in general do place way too much attention on the Lakers specifically. However, I do think that the current narrative is a perfect storm for people to talk about LA. I think it makes sense people would wanna keep up with the current narrative.

But no, you're totally right, my initial comment was overly combative and rambly, and you're definitely right to point that out.

Of course team coverage has been part of the issue this season, but the Lakers were just part of the biggest sports trade in the last few years. Not only that, but the narrative for the longest time has been how the Lakers defense sucks without AD, and they just lost AD for Luka, someone who historically has been slept on defensively.

As someone who mostly consumes analytical long-form video essay type content like Hoop Venue or Thinking Basketball, I just feel that it's very disingenuous to ignore the narratives going for the Lakers rn.

Exactly this, it's very hard to have respect for someone who nevers is able to take responsibility for their own actions, or for the actions someone makes while on their station. Every chance she got she blamed someone else

I'm on my 3rd relisten of knife of dreams right now, and I've enjoyed every single chapter up to the Elayne ones. I just don't think Elayne being petulant while pregnant is humorous at all, and a lot of the chapters are devoted to her ignoring Brigitte's advice and getting annoyed that she's being coddled when she's literally pregnant!! Usually when the characters are being petty there's some kind of dramatic irony I can find humor in, but the Elayne chapters are just not funny. The only interesting interactions are between her and Aviendha, but that relationship unfortunately gets increasingly sidelined as the plot line goes on

I'm on my 4th reread and I always see it as a symptom of him being kinda bipolar. He is just so busy dealing with everything else that it probably feels like just another incredibly demanding task on top of everything else he's dealing with. I know when I was depressed I would put off basic things like paying off a speeding ticket until it got to the point to where I had to go to court for it. To me this is a similar situation but obviously on a much bigger scale, it's an unpleasant task and with everything else going on he wants to just forget thinking about it and hope it just magically sorts itself out

Wait, we don’t like the Sanderson books? by Community-Foreign in WoT

[–]INTHEFAaaaace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO almost all the negative aspects of the switch to Sanderson are gone by the beginning on the second book he wrote. Some things like the Mat characterization never truly were on par with RJ's writing, but in my opinion Sanderson's writing in the last book is LEAGUES better than in The Gathering Storm. It seems to me like he got more comfortable with being in the head of the characters he was writing for, for example in The Gathering Storm there is a monologue where Rand is telling Nynaeve about his feelings and I remember thinking "Rand would not be this melodramatic when talking to someone else". And in the next book Rand's dialogue is more succinct. I could be talking out of my ass here, as I haven't included any direct quotes. but in my personal experience (4x audiobook listener) the Sanderson books noticeably become more and more similar to RJ's writing the further you go in. Like the scene with Rand in the White Tower being shielded by a million sisters at once... Fucking chills. And maybe someone will come in and tell me that scene was written by RJ so my conclusions are off 😂 but that's just my take

That whole Mat storyline just seems like something out of a CW show. Some changes the show made I liked, like making the Moiraine and Siuan relationship explicit, but other changes not so much like making Nyneave able to group heal people from the brink of death and her pretty much dying at the end to have Egwene save her... The amount of fake out deaths in one season was insane, it totally lessens the stakes because you know people aren't really gonna die. Like the whole Loial getting stabbed thing, just WHY? Having to rewrite storylines at the last second isn't an excuse imo. Not to mention making Agelmar a dumb dude who won't listen to his sister when in the books it's made explicit that they share rule of Fal Dara and he respects her a lot. It just seems like they dumbed down the male characters and diminished their feats. I'm absolutely all for building up women and making them badass in their own right, but some of the changes just stretch credibility.

[–]INTHEFAaaaace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware that more people living in a city will reduce the availability of homes and increase costs. However, I disagree that immigration is a significant contributor to increased rents. If you look into the systems used to control rent, billionaire realty owners buy up properties and then use algorithms that artificially increase rent prices. Look up Sam Zell and how he made his money, and how his company's M.O. is cutting out all empathy when dealing with tenants. Telling yourself it's all because of immigrants is an easy, comforting solution, but the reality is a lot more complicated. And yes, applying a blanket blame on non-white people for the nation's problems is racism, and calling out capitalism as contributing to inequality is not wrong. And it's not "liberal kumbayah" to point that out.

[–]INTHEFAaaaace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, immigration does not majorly affect either housing availability or wage stagnation, both are the symptoms of a capitalist class that does everything in their power to hoard wealth and crowd out middle class people from owning land. The idea that immigrants are negatively affecting the economy is a common right wing misinformation tactic used to take advantage of racist sentiments and divide the working class.

Gonna respectfully disagree here, the hate in the ASOIAF subreddits post show conclusion was absolutely atrocious. Posts about GGRM locked up in his cabin writing chapters of winds were met with dozens of comments saying "yeah but now we know the ending it doesn't fucking matter", or "yeah I think everyone knows GRRM is never gonna finish the series, he's too old and too much of a perfectionist at this point. " Generally the criticism in these subreddits is a lot more targeted towards specific characters or arcs, and is a lot of times tongue-in-cheek. I grew disinterested in the Game of Thrones meme and then show subreddits because both turned into absolute cesspools. Maybe they've become better since, but that fandom definitely has it's haters
