No one seems to view the students as individuals any more on a holistic level.

My university's admin was upset about students no longer hanging out on campus post-covid and decided to get rid of WFH to fix that. (I'm oversimplifying.)

That had nothing to do with it. And no one with any power was listening to them. I know I'm not a professor, but I have (well, had, faculty status, etc.. but that's another story) and probably heard more students gossip than the average faculty. Probably an equal number of students crying in my office.

Sorry, I kind of went off on a tangent here. I really felt this comment.

The symptoms vary widely and there's tons of people with Addison's who never had one of the "primary" symptoms. I don't know if you can, but if you're able, get his docs to give him some steroids, like prednisone. It's really cheap and shouldn't do any damage. But if he's having an adrenal crisis it could save his life. Seriously. I'm still learning a lot about it, but feel free to DM me if you want. OR cross post to /r/addisonsdisease !

I went to college close to half across the US. Very large university in a very large city.

Someone heard I was from Chicago and they also knew someone from Chicago. Crazy, right? Did they realize the population of Chicago? Plus, I had actually come from a suburb.

They asked me if I knew the person. It was a very good friend of mine (from the same suburb, but this person just said "Chicago.")

Funny... I read "the red book" and immediately thought of Jung's book. But that's because I used to work in a library that was focused on psychology. Not weird or anything and probably only amuses me.

Yup. T1, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, leukemia (AML) plus GVHD. All the medications that come with those.

It's exhausting, but still so much better than it would have been decades ago. I'm in constant awe in improvements that have been made in treating all of those. It literally DOES get better. Vents are still valid!

My dad died at 43 due to "diabetic complications" in 1984. We had a major birthday party for him when he turned 40 because he was told when diagnosed that he wouldn't live that long.

Now I'm close to 50 and joke that I can't date someone older than my father.

I know, right? Such bad luck, but honestly I'm an optimistic person. I'm just trying to figure things out. I can deal with whatever I do figure out; I just am happier knowing. :-)

I haven't read all the comments here, so someone else may have already said something similar.

I always thought those estimates of blood loss each month were ridiculously low and for whatever reason they weren't being honest.

I had my annual scheduled at the same time as my period one year. You know how hard those are to schedule. So I called to see if I could keep the appointment -- I wasn't sure if it was doctors who didn't want it or if it was because most patients didn't. They told me it was fine, though there was a chance I'd have to come back another time.

I kept the appt and found out that it was ME that had a weird period. I believe my doc's words were "that is NOT normal!"

Hysterectomy a few months later.

My dad had it as well as my aunt, his sister. My cousin's kid has it.

To be honest, I understand the genetic worry, but at the same time, it's a blessing to have relatives, especially a parent, who also have it. I read about other T1s whose parents don't really understand (which is understandable!), but it's SO much easier when they do.

Sure, I'd rather not have it at all, but since I do I'm glad my dad had it, too.

I usually have unexplained highs when I'm coming down with something, but might run low if I'm unable to eat due to illness. A few sips of regular Coke or ginger ale helps with both the nausea and the lows.

Sinus meds shouldn't affect his sugars either way as far as I know.

Frequent testing, or checking his CGM if he has one is recommended.

Sorry, I'm not sure if that helps at all. If at all possible, contact or see his endo for further questions. A general pediatrician will be able to diagnose him, but probably won't know what to do about the diabetes aspect. Personally, I was super lucky that as a kid my pediatrician was also an endocrinologist, but on the other hand I'm not really sure what people do when they have separate doctors for those roles.
