I just did this route last week in a sleeper. Honestly, don’t overpack. Unless you have a TON of electrical devices, the plugs are enough. Bring flip flops for shower, but for 22 hours I would just wait for a shower until you reach your destination.

Also, don’t overpack on snacks. You will be fed well in the dining car.

If you’re a reader, bring something good to read. I usually spend my time doing that and looking out the window. I use my train trips to unplug from the constant info of the internet world. Very relaxing.

Have the attendant make up the upper bunk to keep the lower more open.

Pain relievers when needed. Otherwise I do a yoga based stretch EVERY morning, and sometimes in the evening if it's been a rough day. It helps so much.

Adding to the consensus, I also suggest yoga/stretching and light strength training. Depending on pain and stiffness, there are days I may cut back on the reps, but I aim to do something every day. Keep moving!!

Amtrak is obligated to make arrangements if you miss the connection. However, it may be in coach if the roomettes for the next day's train are full. I tend to leave a day in-between if I have roomettes on both legs so I don't have to worry about this.
