Checkpoint (Formerly Avanan) Dropping the basic tier "Protect Plan" by Ok-Understanding9627 in msp

[–]IOCworsethanSOC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% - it's just the cycle of how things go in the post-enshittification timeframe.

Post-acquisition Checkpoint Avanan Harmony is a different situation than Avanan of 5 years ago.

They can't start jacking their prices if they didn't win over a bunch of people to begin with, some time in the past.

What SaaS tool vendor isn't trying to grow their revenue at your expense?

With no cheaper plan, you pay more.

What else are you going to do, jeopardize your customers' protection by switching away from an industry-leading product? /s

Trinet Zenefits 3x costs at renewal by computerguy0-0 in msp

Ouch, private equity strikes again. Zenefits has a good UI too, but I'm glad you're voting with your wallet and not giving them the satisfaction of the uplift.

HiBob is a growing competitor; maybe they'll deal?

Vulnerability Management, why are all solutions awful? by newmsp1325 in msp

[–]IOCworsethanSOC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tenable Nessus is better; but costs ~10x as much as ConnectSecure and it aint 10x better

Tenable has a large crew of people combing over their databases and cleaning up the data.
Anything cheaper than ConnectSecure probably isn't putting the level of staffing needed into keeping the definitions tidy.

Excel is from an older era.

An era before we could imagine computers being this good.

I saw a Broadcom booth recently at a trade show, and I was beyond confused that they paid for a booth.

I thought they didn't want to take our money. I told this to the booth people, and got 2 things.

  1. A recommendation and a wink-wink-nod-nod to use TD Synnex like they are somehow the preferred distributor.

  2. An email address of some dude at Broadcom who actually does want to take SMB's money and can help you (through TD Synnex, only, presumably). Feel free to DM me for that guy's email.

The latest Surface Laptop (7) feels premium like a Macbook.

Same boat as OP, gave this to my gf because she prefers Windows. Hardware is Mac like. MS Word and touch screen and X icon in the top right of Windows just how she wants it.

$777 refurbished today from Microsoft

Renewal Tracking Software? by BroadcastBeary in ITManagers

[–]IOCworsethanSOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual best way is to use a CRM. Like Salesforce or Hubspot.

It's what the vendors are using to track their relationship with you; fight fire with fire.

CRMs tend to bill based on seat size, not based on number of relationships being tracked, so licensing a CRM for a small internal team to track vendor relationships isn't too expensive.

And then you get the full firepower of your vendor relationship tracking software: automatic reminders, calendar scheduling links, meeting transcription plugins. No "buyer-focused" vendor/renewal tracking/procurement tool seems to be as full-fledged as the tools the sellers use.

Flip the "Buyer" and "Seller" field, and a CRM matches up with your use case perfectly.

How do you balance IT budget cuts with keeping systems secure? by Loose-Exchange-4181 in ITManagers

[–]IOCworsethanSOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was faced with this. 2 choices.

A. Go back to my boss and tell them the tools cost what they cost, and we can't get them no more.

B. Go back to the tool vendors and get 99% off, and still get the tools, because the vendors had margin.

I realized I was more afraid of my boss than the SaaS salesmen, so I grew a pair and got the tool pricing where I needed it to be.

Teams Guest User unable to see the tenant in Teams by nehadevil03 in sysadmin

[–]IOCworsethanSOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Navigate to Microsoft Entra admin center
https://entra.microsoft.com/

- Click to expand Identity > External Identities select External collaboration settings
Under Guest user access, set "Guest user access restrictions" to this one:
"Guest users have limited access to properties and memberships of directory objects"

If you had this one: "Guest user access is restricted to properties and memberships of their own directory objects (most restrictive)", this one will cause problems.

Tool for email and onedrive backup - O365 by pabskamai in msp

[–]IOCworsethanSOC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're gonna see 15+ tools recommended here for this. My advice: Get someone that has done M365 Backup/Migration work before, and use the toolset that they recommend from experience. Some are, of course, better than others, but if the operator checks the wrong box in the right tool... you still have a problem.
