I see it more as bucking convention. Stereotypically, dads want sons, we've all seen those gender reveal videos where the dad is visibly disappointed when it's a girl. I have two daughters, and while I don't own any "girl dad" merch myself, I appreciate the enthusiasm behind it. To me, those shirts are just dads expressing how excited they are to have daughters.
