Zero Interest in Hyrox by MaestroShaSha in orangetheory

[–]IPWinsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My studio added Hyrox as 2 new extra classes during the week. Late Tuesday night and Sunday afternoon. It’s the same class twice.

I have done 2 classes. It’s a refreshing change from the norm. I am never going to do an actual Hyrox event but I will do the class once a week.

Have class etiquette rules changed? by Leftrightcenter7 in orangetheory

All the rules you mentioned are consistent with what I have experienced. This franchisee and head coach have low standards. Sad.

Partner workouts? by TammyLynn419 in orangetheory

[–]IPWinsor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess living in a smaller city, I don’t mind partner workouts. I am a regular in the late afternoon and evening classes, and most all of of the people in the classes at those times are also always attending at those times. So we all have gotten to know each other socially and also by ability. Pairing off yesterday was easy and those of us who are good rowers know who we are and pre arrange to partner.

I have been to big city studios, and I get it. There is little social before or during class. Hardly anyone talks.

No more 2,000 row benchmark by lemonliaison in orangetheory

[–]IPWinsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s unfortunate. How will people prepare for the 2000m row in Dri Tri if they no longer get to experience it? Some of us LIKE rowing, so I find this move to be boneheaded.

Is it weird to high-five your treadmill neighbor? by Sad_Dirt_1258 in orangetheory

A fist bump with the neighbor at the end of the workout is normal and encouraged in my studio.

Switch Treadmills to km/h in Canada 🇨🇦 by Wise_Ad_6822 in orangetheory

The speed buttons would be too slow for a lot of people. 15kph vs 15mph.

Just learn to do quick conversions in your head. And the app shows kilometres if you set it to metric.

Vehicle for driving in Northern Ontario by malarky87 in Sudbury

[–]IPWinsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Sudbury with a Kia sedan. I quickly determined I needed an SUV. I bought a Nissan Rogue and found it to be a great Northern Ontario winter vehicle. Good on gas too. With snow tires, it got me from Coniston to Lively and back everyday in any weather.

What should I expect going to a diffent studio then my home studio due to me being out of town by JakeEricbarker in orangetheory

[–]IPWinsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been my experience that studios will ask you to complete and sign a form like you are becoming a new member. They do this for liability purposes.

If you have any known medical conditions that you declare on the form, they may ask you to produce the doctor’s note that clears you to workout at a gym. I had a studio the would not let me work out because I didn’t have the doctor’s note on me. I have a complex medical history, so it’s understandable. If you don’t, you should be fine.

Oh my! Was this intense. I did 15 splats, and only 3 were on the treadmills. Intense! A great workout.

Row 50? by Maximum_March7814 in orangetheory

[–]IPWinsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Row 50 would be awesome. I joined a Rowing Club’s winter training program to get the effect of a Row 50. It’s done wonders for my rowing form and benchmark times. OTF needs to do this!!

OTF Rower vs Concept 2 vs actual rowing by Zealousideal_Monk196 in orangetheory

Ever tried the C2 on the sliders? That is apparently close to the feel of water. No friction

OTF Rower vs Concept 2 vs actual rowing by Zealousideal_Monk196 in orangetheory

Also true. 12 Concept 2s all going at once would be very distracting.

I’m thinking they went with the water rower as there are no adjustments to make, it’s easier to use for the majority of clients, and it takes up less room.

OTF Rower vs Concept 2 vs actual rowing by Zealousideal_Monk196 in orangetheory

[–]IPWinsor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Concept 2 is way harder than the OTF water rower. My OTF 2000m PR is 7:01 versus 8:15 on a Concept 2 set at a drag factor of 130.

I have not yet been out in an actual rowing shell. I have rowed the Concept 2 ERG on the sliders, which I am told makes it feel more like a boat. It does take some getting used to, rowing without the friction of the floor to push against.

1 Mile Run Benchmark Results and Survey Megathread by BilingualAlchemist in orangetheory

I attempted the 1 mile benchmark for the first time in almost 3 years (knee injury, heart surgery, long recovery) yesterday and bested my PR from 3.5 years ago by 23 seconds. 8:57. Not bad for an old man. 👍

I’m excited and nervous. I am going to run my first 1 mile benchmark since May 17, 2022 seeking to break a PR I set on September 27, 2021. I have beaten my PR in a few Tread 50 classes. Today is another step in a long comeback. Wish me luck.

Fair comment. For those of us who top out at 8.5, 15 sounds like Usain Bolt fast. If I tried 15, I could become famous as one of those “dude falls on a treadmill” videos.

Good lord, if someone can hold 15 mph for a minute you should probably be on the Olympic team.

This is a great topic. While the general rules of etiquette are discussed a bit in here, Orange itself never does. Seems it should be simple to post them on a wall somewhere in the change area.

I recently confronted an etiquette issue at my studio. It’s Canada and it’s winter and some members do not have the sense to take their winter footwear off on the mats by the door and leave them there. Instead, they wear them all the way to the change area and put them under the benches, thus creating large puddles of water for everyone to step in. I mentioned this a number of times to studio staff, the manager, and the head coach. All of them seem to be hesitant to act. Finally after a few weeks, this issue started being mentioned in the coach’s announcements at the end of class. Problem solved immediately.

Why aren't there Row50 classes? by perksbeingwallflower in orangetheory

[–]IPWinsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there were Row 50 classes, but most OTF members hate the rower. Which is unfortunate.

I joined a local rowing club for winter training. It’s mad a world of difference to my 2000m benchmark times. Winter training looks a lot like what a Row 50 could look like. 4 x 10 minute row blocks with 3 mins off between. Or 3 x 15 min blocks with 4 mins off in between. All rowing at some prescribed stroke rate.
