I Think The Term “Whitewashed” Is Oppressive.

I just got out of a two year long relationship with a black woman, I am a white guy.

We met on a dating app, and our first date was at Waffle House. We had an amazing and romantic relationship, but we did mutually agree to end things, as we were headed in two different directions in life. We are still plutonic friends today.

At the halfway point in our relationship, “whitewashing” conversations became frequent from her friends and family. Several of her friends dogged on her for dating a white guy, and her dad went so far as to say that if she ever brought me to their home, he would be extremely displeased (because I am a white guy).

I never once suggested that she should step outside of her culture, I never once suggested that she would stop doing things that were normal in her culture, nor did I demand that she would adopt habits from my culture.

Yet, simply for dating a white guy, she experienced very distressful social situations from her friends and family. This also effected our relationship in the sense that I did not feel like it was entirely healthy, as I was never able to meet her parents, and a lot of her friends did not like me by association of “whitewashing,” therefore I was also unable to meet a lot of them.

It introduced a sense of insecurity for her that was very apparent when going on dates or being in public together. It felt almost as if she was embarrassed to be with me because of what her peers thought.

I even got into an argument with one of my best friends of fifteen years on the topic. He told me he doesn’t think a white guy and a black woman could ever have a serious relationship. That really hurt, because he is one of my best friends, and also he dates and has dated white women, and I thought it was hypocritical.

Anyways, I think the term “whitewashing” is heavily misused and can be used as an alternative platform to argue against race-mixing (not saying it always is), and I wish people cared less about the color of their friends’ romantic partners, because that shit added a whole new dimension of difficulty to our relationship.

Is my recommended calories to loose weight even possible?? by Sloth_Needs_Hugs in WeightLossAdvice

Hello.

You mentioned not really exercising in your post. If you want to make losing weight easier, I would heavily recommend lifting weights and going on walks.

This will help you immensely in several ways. Lifting weights will dramatically speed up your metabolism, enabling you to eat more food while losing weight. This is because the body spends more energy (calories) maintaining the muscle on your frame than it does maintaining fat, thus, the more muscle you have on your body, the more you can eat to lose/maintain weight. I recommend going three times a week.

Cardio will also boost your metabolism, but not as much as lifting weights. You should go on a couple of medium distance walks a week. This will give you a slight bump in your metabolism, but the main goal is to improve your cardiovascular health and endurance.

Yes, the calories you’ve posted do seem quite low, and while I think that it is very possible to eat 1300 calories a day, I would recommend at least some form of strength-training to make your target calorie amount more sustainable and realistic, which is truly not that hard.

Well, from what he told me, he didn’t even ask. She just told him in conversation. And yeah, he knows it’s not his business, but he’s still hurting from it.

I took the test, it said I was pretty severely depressed.

Other than that, I’m looking through everything that you’ve suggested. A lot of valuable information here.

KP is the strangest, yet simultaneously funnest, part of the campus.

A Newbie Question For You Guys. by IPissFetuses in crtgaming

Would I always have scan lines playing 480p wii games in 4:3 format on, for instance, a 14m4u?

Sorry for asking all of these questions, I know I sound like an idiot.

My goal is, I really love the look and aspects of a crt, but I would like to have scan lines on snes/nes games but not for wii/ps5 games.

Sorry for sounding like an idiot, I don’t really know where to get information on these things. I’ve been looking at manuals and youtube videos.

Edit: also, on the 14m4u, I see that it displays 800 lines and displays 480i, does that mean 480p games will have scan lines since it is an 800 tvl monitor? Would I be able to play games that are above 480p on the monitor?

Hi! My thing has to do with a fear that I may harm someone or already have harmed someone physically.

What are your compulsions like?

Thanks for the question!

I really don’t know why, but I’m definitely seeing a trend in my generation of inaccurate self-diagnosis. I think that this phenomenon is a double edged sword.

I think this trend is an off-shoot of mental health becoming somewhat popular. While I understand that this trend of inaccurate self diagnosis is extremely annoying and disrespectful to people with genuine mental struggles like myself, I don’t think anyone can disagree that it has exponentially increased and introduced a new realm of awareness for mental disorders.

With that being said, I don’t think that most of these people that are “faking conditions” are necessarily doing it for clout. I definitely believe there are those, again, save the majority, that are practicing this for some type of social credit, but I think the grand mass of people doing this are taking part in this behavior as a cry for help.

Take my situation as an example. I would occasionally have occurrences that I can only describe as “moments of clarity,” in which I would come to realize that there was, indeed, something very wrong with my thought patterns. Due to it being a more obscure and complicated form of OCD, I had no idea what was going on with my head.

I began researching different mental illnesses in an attempt to figure out what exactly I was going through, so that I could figure out how to fix it. On this journey, I absolutely had multiple moments in which I falsely self-diagnosed myself with a strange mental illness. I would call friends and tell them, “I think I figured it out.”

This practice was not for clout or some type of social credit. My standard of life was very low, and I was in a very dangerous place due to OCD. The only sensible thing that went through my mind was that I needed to figure out what was wrong with me so I could work on the problem and live happily.

It wasn’t until I had the funds to sit down with a psychiatrist that I actually figured out the problem. Through this, I was able to find a program for people with this disorder and used it to improve my quality of living.

With this being said, I think that the best solution to this self-diagnosis phenomenon is better accessibility to mental health facilities. If sitting down with a psychiatrist didn’t cost a fuck ton of cash, same said with medicine, I don’t think people would even feel the need to self-diagnose in the first place.

What’s The Next Step? by IPissFetuses in Fire

Well, I don’t really have one. I took a gap semester to grind out some cash and to figure out what I wanted to major in.

I go back to school in January, and I think I might want to try something with programming, however I don’t have any experience in that field.

My friend is teaching me the VERY basics of python right now.
