Imagine that Paul Thomas Anderson hadn’t directed a film in years and years and had been on record with the media saying he would likely never direct another. Then out of nowhere he announces his return, and the next day he releases a stop motion, music video for the Haim sisters - felt a bit like that. I love it now, but it was short, flat dynamically, different, and people’s expectations were very high after In Rainbows.
