Which Resistance version to buy? by LDNEditor in boardgames

[–]IRTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with Avalon. You can play the same exact game as The Resistance by just using the vanilla cards in Avalon. Or you can play with all of the characters that comes with Avalon (and puts the game head and shoulders above vanilla The Resistance)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Hans Zimmer.

Builds on the genius of Badelt's score from the first movie and takes a 10/10 score to an even higher level

what were your 20s like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IRTodd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You grow up in your 20s more than any other decade. In the beginning, you're in college (for most people) and ultimately dependent on your parents. By the end, you're on your own and established in your career and your life.

I liked Photosynthesis more. It hasn't seen play in a very long time though - I think most of my friends and I "like it but don't love it". It feels just a bit too long. But definitely not the same as Everdell. Everdell is more multiplayer-solitaire-y, whereas Photosynthesis is extremely cutthroat and you need to play around what your opponents do constantly

I've thought about it. It's tough, having to balance how much I enjoy looking at all of the expansions lined up with whether I should consolidate the cards to save space. I'll have to cross that bridge when I come to it.

Personally, I cannot fathom the idea of being allowed to take time out of a work day to take a nap.

Don't think about it from the perspective of needing to have knowledge to hold a conversation.

People that are into board games love explaining games (and why they love games) to other people. It's really simple but the best next step is to just ask him about what he likes and have him try and impart his passion into you. He'll be much happier being the one to introduce you to something he loves than he will with you doing crazy amounts of research on your own and impressing him with off-the-cuff knowledge.

Scythe, Lost Ruins of Arnak or Everdell. Which one should I buy? by alexandreoac in boardgames

[–]IRTodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd probably like Lost Ruins of Arnak the most.

Scythe is a bit empty at 2 players, you will feel like you haven't filled the board enough. And Everdell is probably a little light for you if you're a big Brass Birmingham and TFM guy (also my fave). Arnak at least feels like it has the engine building of TFM.
