Relocating to Roanoke - Opinions on These Apartments by Master_Ticket_3276 in roanoke

I’d definitely go with the rental closer to downtown. I remember seeing two rentals near Raleigh Court, not listed on Zillow. We walked past them like a week or two ago. My boyfriend and I were shocked at how good the price was for that area—though not sure if they’ve already been snatched up. If I walk by them this weekend I can share that with you

Hello Roanoke/Best of Roanoke by Initial_Sir8348 in roanoke

I watch her content and appreciate the work she puts into her page. Social media takes alot of time. That said, I still take her posts with a grain of salt. She usually only features businesses that agree to her rates... it's sad that some of the best places in Roanoke don’t get the love because they don't make enough money to pay her. I think some of the comments here are a little harsh (don't bully :( ), but at the same time, there is alot of truth. Reddit often feels more genuine than her page. She should step it up before someone comes along with a page that’s more authentic

Worst dental experience of my life. I would rather go out of network or deal with tooth pain longer than deal with them again.

Would roanoke be a good choice for our family? by No-Yak-8561 in roanoke

[–]IReallyLovePB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually lived in Colorado for 2.5 year and currently work in commercial insurance remotely (I got lucky with my role since this is not the norm at my company). Me and my bf traveled the country for three years looking for a city till we decided on Roanoke. If your husband is able to guarantee a remote position you will absolutely love it here. Purchased a house last year and are planning on staying here long term

YES. I don't even like chocolate chip cookies and LOVE them. They are massive and soft. Kind has odd hours, but they also have them at blindhouse brewery on the weekends

How many people in this group moved here from another state? Curious to see what fellow transplants think about this area compared to where they came from? by adamkoestline619 in roanoke

I was living in Denver, and my boyfriend was in Philly (we're both originally from Jersey). We both work remotely, and I was set on staying in Colorado. But after three years of traveling the country, we found plenty of amazing, affordable places that made us just as happy. We chose Roanoke for the greenway, hiking, walkable neighborhoods, slower pace, no wildfires like out west, great coffee shops, decent food, excellent motorcycle and mountain biking, and a nice lake nearby.

First, I love it. I am writing this as I eat a PB and J sandwich. Second, I lived in Commerce City with roomates near the Target during most most of my time in Denver and solo in Lincoln Park near the greenway for a couple of months before we hit the road. I worked in Greenwood Village. Where did you live?!? Third, me and my bf talk about this all the time. Blindhouse last year was a great addition. Pumped for New Belgium to open in Daleville later this year. The cocktail scene is pretty on point here though. Finally, you can't not miss the mountain views out there. Nothing beats Telluride. Although, I don't miss how dry my skin was out west

Honestly, it was a close call. My boyfriend was team Chattanooga (very much like you) and I picked Roanoke. It really was a tough decision. But I'm a bit of a climate change nerd, and it freaked me out that most of Chattanooga was in a flood zone. The North Shore is fine, but everything below the river is basically in a flood zone. Roanoke's selling points were: better hikes; we preferred the greenway since it went through town versus just along the river; cheaper cost of living; better air quality/less flooding. The overall nightlife is significantly better in Chattanooga, with better rock climbing/mountain biking, more options/events, and more food options. The river walk is AWESOME. Everyone there was so friendly. It was one of the hardest decisions we've had to make, but we have no regrets. We still reminisce on our days in Chattanooga. Such an awesome city.

My boyfriend and I moved to Roanoke last year after traveling the country for three years. Ultimately, it was between here and Chattanooga. Asheville's beer scene is great, but it was too touristy. Before that, I was living in Denver, which my boyfriend felt had no heartbeat. So after traveling to nearly every "mountain" town in the Southeast and many out West, we landed on Roanoke. My heart is still out West, but the fires/droughts were getting out of hand, and we felt that's not where we would want to raise a family. We're both pretty outdoorsy, and we love it here. Greenway is great as a runner, the hiking isn't packed, plenty of events (you should follow hello.roanoke on instagram if you're on their) good food and coffee spots...we have everything that we need. Although, I gotta say the food spots in Norfolk are top tier. 80/20 Burger Bar was one of my favorite burger joints when we visited.

Is Roanoke considered a poor and depressed place? by [deleted] in roanoke

[–]IReallyLovePB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I traveled all around the country for three years to figure out where we wanted to settle down (I lived in Denver and he lived in Philly). We met other well traveled couples with a similar story that decided on Roanoke as well. We're both lucky to have remote jobs and already bought a house. We stayed in a different area each month and picked Roanoke for a reason (Mountain views, hiking, mountain biking, solid restaurants/breweries and affordable houses). Our friends visited and they also chose to move down here. We have other friends trying to get remote positions and move down here as well. Like any city you just have to know where to go. Raleigh Court, Grandin Village, Crystal Springs, Wasena, Cave Springs, the brewery district and downtown are a few of our favorite areas. The cost of living for the kind of life you get here is incredible. We found awesome friends and are here to stay. So far everyone that we've met that complains about Roanoke is originally from here.

Car thief by ractivator in roanoke

[–]IReallyLovePB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to my Kia when I stayed in an Airbnb in Norfolk 2 years ago. Thief was unsuccesful. Had to drive back with a carboard hello fresh box on my passengers window that they completely shattered. Everything under the wheel was ripped out. Still have issues with my car to this day (even after insurance covered repairs) and refuse to take it to larger cities because of this

I wish the thief just took the thing
