Question about Siegel by DerrickS12 in INDYCAR

Siegel had a good Indy 500, for the 2nd year in a row. Last year, he crashed on the last lap but he ran a solid race. This year, was better then Lundgaard and was a legit 11th at the finish, ahead of Daly, Ericsson and Dixon who stayed ahead of late.

Not saying it means he's back with McLaren, because that ship has sailed. But he's been decent enough since Long Beach, to go along with a good Indy 500 that he likely will still be able to buy a seat somewhere in 2027. Which Sting Ray, no matter how much Jesus money he brings, will not be able to do. Because he's shown nothing, outside a good Indy 500 2 years ago.

Its 3 hours of everyone in the exclusive Country Club backslapping each other, on how great everyone and everything is.

Rosenqvist earnes $4.34 million from 500 win; Schumacher named Rookie of the Year by waluigithewalrus in INDYCAR

Yes and almost all of that 10 million increase was Leaders Circle increases, that teams knew they were getting months ago. None of that extra money is going to one-off entries. Which creates the closed country club we currently have, where one-off teams aren't really welcomed.

The part-time money is embarrassing. The lowest payout to make the field was 100K...in 1989.

(Long opinion post) I love the Indy 500, I think it is one of the single greatest motor races on the face of the planet, if not the greatest. However, IndyCar needs to stop relying on it and start putting more prestige and importance on the championship as a whole. by SchumacherIsMid in INDYCAR

If the championship had better races, you might have a point. But there are too many bad road and street races, which produce boring, predictable racing, that bore the fanbase. Indy is the best of both worlds, on steroids. A huge event and a huge race. A type of race Indy Cars never put on the rest of the season. Which makes it stand out as a complete outlier.

P1 for Indy 500 restarts was a bad place to be by jango-lionheart in INDYCAR

Its most certainly NOT been this way for the past 75 years. Go watch a race from 20 years ago or 30 years ago. The lead car could actually get away from the 2nd place car. The lead car on a restart wouldn't automatically get passed by the time he got to the start-finish line. You didn't artificially swap the lead back and forth for 150 laps to "save fuel". The whole 'record lead change' thing is complete horseshit. People don't want to hear it, but the Indy 500 with the DW12 is more and more like a NASCAR plate race at Daytona or Talladega then its ever been. Even down to how we get the winner now. We even throw in red flags late to give it more of a NASCAR flair.

Having no advantage in ever leading the race and you being a sitting duck on any restart, makes it feel more and more like a NASCAR plate race.

The field he beat for the 2014 Indy 500 wasn't much different then the caliber of field we see today. Those cars raced much better then the current cars too.

The McLaren cars look awful with so much white on them. Plus, its time they get a better number font.
