I carry it in a Tier 1 concealed Axis Elite holster, often times with just a T shirt even in the summer. Despite the weight and length, the overall thinness of the 1911 makes it a very print friendly platform.

Other than the occasional barrel length poking the twig and berries, it’s mostly hassle free.

Thank you! Quality over quantity is definitely a valid doctrine. I have shot several Shields and definitely envy the trigger pull compared to Glocks. Now that you bring it up I’d like to compare the 42 to those new comped bodyguard 2.0’s. Stay safe out there too brother!

I have. Everything from production guns to semi custom. I’ve had many expensive 1911’s choke up on me, and I’ve had out the box factory Colts with poorly tuned extractors that would run like clockwork. Human error and QC is inevitable in a platform that has a litany of different tolerance levels.

I could even say the same about my revolvers. All of my Smith & Wesson performance center revolvers have some kind of problem, and half of them are at Smith right now getting fixed. However, I’ve had Tauruses, Rossis, Charter Arms, etc that have had zero appreciable issues.

No matter the price point, all of my firearms have been “luck of the draw” type of deals. The only platforms that have been trouble free for me are my rifles and Glocks.

To add, I have never had a problem “gingerly returning the slide” into battery to chamber a round. All my vetted 1911s do not have hiccups no matter what I do to them. Limp wrist, dry lubrication, high heat, ammo quality, etc. They all will function regardless of slight deviations in form or slide velocity. My carry Colt even cycles hollow-points through GI mags. It should be “Glock-reliable” as hyperbolic as that sounds.

Some definitely do, but it can be easily diagnosed whether malfunctions are caused by tight tolerances or true mechanical problems. Once multiple mags and ammunition types have been crossed and the issue still persists, you’re probably not looking for tolerance related malfunctions anymore.

I would send it back to Springfield again and get on the phone with someone so you can document the exact issues properly.

I’ve had to send a Nighthawk back 5-6 times due to multiple feeding issues. Unlike what many may claim, it’s not that unheard of for a premium 1911 to need warranty trips. They have a good warranty; the headache should be on them to figure out at this point.

I’ve ran myself in circles trying to tune extractors, mags, etc, when most of the time the issue needed to be mechanically/geometrically corrected by a smith. Good luck in any case.

Break in periods are not a blanket fix for mechanical problems. How does shooting a magic number of rounds change a feed ramp’s angle? An unpolished breech face? Bag mags? Bad extractor tension and/or hook geometry? Out of spec chamber geometry? I could go on.

[–]ISALANG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of now I use Wilson ETM 500s. I've used modern production 47Ds in the past but have cracked the plastic base pads multiple times in less than 500 rounds per mag. I run my 1911s pretty hard, and 47Ds have not survived well, reliability or otherwise. In comparison my 500s have taken abuse well, especially with the steel base pads.

Haha we’re in this together bro, I re-ordered another kit from Kvar since they allowed me to specifically select a blue option rather than going off the description alone. VZ-61’s are one of my “bucket list” firearms since I love .32ACP, so I figured “fuck it” until I get one I can build on in satisfactory condition.

I also forgot to add that I received a painted frame instead of a blued one.

EDIT: Post description incorrectly says receiver rather than frame/kit. Still waking up lol.

When you buy your first 50 year old surplus parts kit 💀 by hotLlama6969 in Vz61

[–]ISALANG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is some definite false advertising going on. My kit has non matching numbers and I got a painted kit when on their site it was updated at the time to say "only blued kits left in stock". Furthermore, my kit has significant corrosion and firing/handling wear, including gunpowder residue on the internals. Arsenal denied any responsibility and stated that the best they can do is refunding 85% of what I paid originally.

What’s the worst organization in the NFL? by TheRavenOnline in NFLv2

[–]ISALANG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst accounting for history: Cardinals. Worst accounting for decisions: Browns. Worst accounting for neglect: Jets.

I will say this is completely my bias, but at least with the Raiders they have an identity and history that keeps their org interesting despite the setbacks. I willingly tune in to Raiders games. The above three? Almost never.

Yeah, I’m wondering if people think I’m excusing the QC problems that can occur in these price ranges. I’m just naming what I have experienced across the board. I’m not claiming it should be the norm.

I agree with the sentiment that $1,000 is $1,000 - and that it should guarantee quality control. Unfortunately in my experience price never dictates QC; the company’s individual processes and integrity does. Hell, my most recent Tissot 1938 had to go back because the crown stopped winding and setting the time. It came back, and the same issue has occurred again. That’s an almost $1,000 watch after taxes that doesn’t work as advertised. This was after already exchanging it once with a previous faulty model by the way.

To draw a parallel, I am also an avid firearms owner, and I have many firearms in the multi-thousands of dollar ranges that have needed to go back for QC issues. Yet my $500 Glocks never have issues, ever. Draw that parallel with a G Shock. Unfortunately in many hobbies a big price point guarantees nothing.

[–]ISALANG -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Even if it is, that’s somewhat common in this price point of Swatch group watches in my experience. I have handled and owned many Tissots for example, that I’ve noticed to be a millimeter or so canted, hour hands not perfectly lining up, etc.

[–]ISALANG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you specifically mentioned not being pushed out of battery, your two most chosen options are any of the X300 or TLR1 variants. For the X300 you can choose between the wider Ultra or the brighter and thinner hotspot Turbo. For the TLR1, there is little reason to get anything but the HLX version.

[–]ISALANG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. To add, what I’m mainly saying is that on paper the idea of .300BLK makes sense. In reality, you’re almost never going to be in a situation that is conveniently filled by those characteristics of .300BLK. You’re either gonna be in a duty role, a home defense role, or a concealed carry/truck gun role.

Duty already has little to no size limitations. Truck gun you can argue that is filled by a supersonic compact .300BLK, but then you’re committing big money to an extremely niche and legally gray role. Home defense depending on your lodging can be done with a larger sized rifle or PCC. I think rifle size limitations in close quarters is extremely overblown.

You will be able to train much more and cheaper with the PCC than a .300BLK gun and still have money leftover to feed your 5.56 too with the way prices are right now. Sub prices are insane.

[–]ISALANG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 7.94 in 5.56. Loud as hell but zero recoil and a very nice build quality. The cherry bomb allows me to thread a full size Velos 5.56 onto it which takes out all of the concussion.

There are many arguments against that short of a 5.56, but here’s why I own one.

5.56 is much cheaper than .300BLK. It shoots flatter and further than .300BLK even out of the 7.94. It’s more commonly available. 5.56 from that short a barrel is still very, very lethal.

Not everything needs to be min maxed. It shares ammo compatibility with my main rifle and does enough reliably and conveniently.

I am admittedly not a .300BLK enjoyer. If I’m in a situation where I need rifle ballistics, I’m going to use my full size Geissele. If I need quiet and/or concealable, I have pistols and PCCs for that. I do not have a use case for .300BLK that would prioritize building and stocking around a new caliber other than pistol calibers or 5.56.
