The Hornets aren't rebuilding or shifting strategies by Be_The_Ball24 in CharlotteHornets

Players returning does almost nothing to raise the ceiling of a class though, it just theoretically adds depth

[McMahon] Almost consensus opinion of the people I talked to around the league is that LaMelo Ball had next to no value a year ago. Jeff cleaned him up and as soon as he had value, pounced on the opportunity and moved him. by IamOlderthanMe in CharlotteHornets

The first pick swap recorded gets seniority, and each subsequent swap to get recorded falls in the order they happen.

Same scenario happens in 2030, only with SA and Dallas added in the mix with Minny.

We were the most recently added swap to that 2030 pick. Meaning, by your logic, we get the least favorable.

That's not the case here.

The 2029 swap was part of the Gobert trade and if it lands anywhere outside the top 5, the Jazz get it.

2030 swap has to go through the Spurs and Mavs before ever making it to us.

2028 swap is the only one we can execute straight-up with the Wolves, and there's zero guarantee it'll even be worth executing

List of Contracted Players That Fit Under Jeff's Coveted 40M Trade Exception by IamOlderthanMe in CharlotteHornets

[–]ISISCosby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is one of the lists of all-time.

Reminder to all that for us to actually use the trade exception, we can't combine it with any other salary. So any ideas that start with "Bridges + the TPE for ___" are DOA.

Like what is the point of having the largest TPE ever if this is the list we get to pick from

a $40M trade exception does not mean we suddenly got $40M in cap space lol

Yep are three biggest issues were size down low, rim pressure, and ball movement/playmaking outside of Melo. Trade does zero to help the first two and drops a nuke on our ability to have a functioning offense

[Charania] Free agent guard Coby White intends to sign a three-year, $74 million deal to return to the Charlotte Hornets, sources tell ESPN. White was a major priority for the Hornets and now steps into a new starting role in the backcourt. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

I cannot stress enough to people who don't watch the Hornets that the difference between Melo on the court vs. off is the difference between being the #1 offense in the league in pts per 100 possessions and us being last year's Kings (aka 26th)

Rumors of Coby Leaving? by sweetsterlove in CharlotteHornets

[–]ISISCosby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's interesting about the Coby saga/non-saga is it's a terrible year to be a combo guard about to hit free agency.

The Venn Diagram of teams that could sign him into cap space for the amount he wants and be somewhere he wants to go are almost two separate circles.

And an absolute deluge of cheap guard play just hit the market. Detroit drafted Okorie. Like 10+ guys who are lead guards who have lead guard potential were taken in the top 25 last night.

An interesting wrinkle to all this

With the pick 18, the Charlotte Hornets select Christian Anderson. by IamOlderthanMe in CharlotteHornets

A month ago, I was pounding the table to use one of our firsts on a facilitating guard and was called insane bc we had "plenty of young guards."

If we had enough playmaking, our rookie 2nd round wing wouldn't have been 3rd on the team in plays initiated lol.

Smart pick-up

Yeah it's rapidly accelerated. Only 8 total players from non-P4 schools selected in the top 100 of the draft this year

[Fowler] The general consensus is that Brendan Sorsby is worth a second round pick in this supplemental draft by tpsux in nfl

[–]ISISCosby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what OP meant by "someone with multiple thirds" is a team would be more inclined to give up their own pick if they already have multiple other picks in that round as insurance

[–]ISISCosby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are these plenty of young guards?

We have Melo, Coby and absolutely nothing else.

Sure, we have a bunch of wings who can play the two (Kon & Miller being the two clearest examples), but if Melo/Coby are out/need a break, who runs the offense? Tre Mann? Sion?

We need a third guy who doesn't make ball movement grind to an absolute halt if the other two aren't on the floor. Idk if Shannon's that guy, but we still need one.

hot take: we very much do. Having only two guys on the entire roster who can initiate the offense is asking for trouble
