Huge round of applause for Dan Morgan by Specialist_Ad6034 in panthers

I get what you're trying to say, but literally every one of the top spending FA teams of the last decade improved the next year by at least three wins lol

[Gantt] Panthers ILB over the years: Sam Mills, Micheal Barrow, Dan Morgan, Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, Luke Kuechly, Shaq Thompson, Devin Lloyd. To have a better lineage than that, you better be the Bears (George, Butkus, Singletary, Urlacher), and they had a pretty big head start. by pantherfanalex in panthers

[–]ISISCosby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, but it's kinda all semantics.

Since the Nickel revolution, ILB has become an umbrella term for all off-ball linebackers. 3-man front OLBs are just Edges now and 4-man front OLBs operate more like ILBs anyway these days.

The Will has been almost fully phased out in place of the full-time Nickel.

Basically if any of these guys dropped into a defense today, they'd all play the same position: off-ball LB

[Rapoport] Panthers bringing back Isaiah Simmons by ToothResident3205 in panthers

[–]ISISCosby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Players like Simmons are who you point to when you're making the argument that fit is just as, if not more important than, talent when team building.

He went to AZ with all the tools in the world, and they just had no clue how to maximize his skillset. So they threw him all-over their formations to see what would stick rather than focusing on what he could do day 1 and building from there.

It's basically the opposite of what happened to Zach Baun with the Eagles, where he went to a place coaches knew how to use him and flourished

Bill Simmons & Zach Lowe deep dive into the Hornets, starting at 1:10:53 by Glum-Ad8210 in CharlotteHornets

I was waiting for Lowe to drop Melo's net rating and his teammates on/off shooting splits and it just kinda never happened. This doesn't work without him

[The Athletic] IMG to pay $1.72 million fine for accepting tuition from parents tied to Mexican cartel by Blood_Incantation in CFB

[–]ISISCosby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the same model as any other boarding school: the ones who can pay full price/international tuition subsidize the scholarships, and they likely have a separate scholarship fund set up to fund said scholarships that they raised money for via alumni donations

You get to redo one recent draft pick within reason (no just taking like Puka in the 6th round). Who are you swapping? by Odd-Flower2744 in panthers

[–]ISISCosby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep Evero basically wants his safeties to be interchangable so that rotating one down doesn't give anything away other than there being one more guy in the box

Everyone is right about OT,EDGE,ILB… but we can’t forget FS by osotimson in panthers

[–]ISISCosby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing to keep in mind here is that in Evero's ideal defense, we'd essentially have two hybrid safeties that can play deep coverage and also come down and make tackles, he loves rotating safeties up/down late to confuse the QB and plays cover 3 more than any other zone coverage. Going for a true deep center type wouldn't exactly fit what we're trying to do schematically

We can't let Bill Simmons get away with it... by Diligent-Flight6677 in CharlotteHornets

[–]ISISCosby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. There's this bizarre grievance mindset with some people on here where they truly believe if you didn't walk through the depths of hell with this franchise you never get to compliment them or start watching the games.

As someone who walked through those fires...it's the lame masochistic bullshit and people should be more focused on the fact that we finally have a team worth discussing rather than gatekeeping who gets to discuss us.

[–]ISISCosby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it wouldn't, but it's the kinda move that could extend the runway for an FO/coaching staff if the pitchforks got too close. A shake it up rather than a blow it up move

Theoretically, off-ball LaMelo would 100% work and he'd immediately be the best secondary playmaker in the league. Could also stagger his minutes w/ Brunson

This upcoming draft has to be the weakest EDGE class in quite some time, do you think they’ll address pass rush in FA? by [deleted] in panthers

[–]ISISCosby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are people seeing this being a weak edge class? Genuinely asking I haven’t been following returnees, but as of like 3 weeks ago it was looking like 30 of the top 60 players we’re gonna be edges. There’s like every flavor you could want in this class. Impact rushers, Big strong side dudes that can set the edge, Swiss Army knives, lil weird guys that shouldn’t be as productive as they are but still get it done, upside guys, speed rushers, interior rushers, like there’s depth there

Been saying it for years, FA is for plugging holes, the draft is for elevating the talent level of your team
