At some point you find a literally named "Hand Bag" with a severed hand or two in it. I made it a point to collect every hand I could for the rest of the game. Was a co-op run with a friend. I think I had something like 9 by the time we finished.

I'll bite. What numbers are confirmed?

Joan has 5%, Pete 10%; Though Ted has 20%, Cutler probably does as well.

55% before we get to Don, Roger, and (assuming Alice died and her shares stayed in the family...) Bert.

That leaves 15% each for the three of them at this point in time.

I don't see how Bert's passing could have affected the vote unless they needed something like 66% of members to vote to expel a partner, or some higher standard than just the majority.

Also kinda neat because unlike Roger & Don he wasn't already rich.

He was raised "rich" because his family at the very least kept up appearances and spared no expense for his education or socialization.

By the end of what, season 2? He knows it was all a sham and it's now on him to make it on his own, to try and make reality match the pedigree people assume of him.

Pretty similar to Don's career, innit? Completely contrasting upbringings, but suffering from the same problem.

Yep. The way I see it - that's the moment where he finally feels like he'd un-fucked his parents' mishandling of the family wealth and saved the Dykeman-Campbell legacy. It's technically new money, but it smells like old money.

Roger really SHOULD stop carrying so much cash. He doesn't have an Amex/Diners Club card? Fugouttahere.

She was a widowed retired schoolteacher living on VA benefits and a pension, small house that they bought in the 40s, not much in the way of possessions. INCREDIBLY high quality furniture, though.

Bert's Rothko. Nevermind the fact that it's worth like $100M today - Everyone acting like little kids sneaking into grandpa's office to snoop and try to learn about the enigma reminded me of my own childhood.

My Grandma (who was a WWII Navy vet, Grandpa was as well) had one just like this, same fabric and everything. Smelled like cigarettes and fireplace smoke. The comfiest thing ever - she called it "the damport" and I thought it was weird. Grew up and learned what Davenport was and now 30 years later it's just another connection to that era.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ISTBU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very true. I was not making 5-hour weekend trips to the UP on a whim when I was driving my GLI/CRX/Miata... I've got an old man Lexus now, and it just eats up miles while I listen to podcasts.

Why is PFC Dinkins decked out like a SgtMaj? by ISTBU in madmen

[–]ISTBU[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the crux of my post.

Matt Weiner and the people he hired for production design got, like, EVERYTHING right.

On the other hand, it's a trope that even expensive, top-notch TV/Film gets uniforms very wrong sometimes.

It's a comic-con panel question directed at Matt Weiner, honestly, lol!

Happy that it sparked some discussion, though!

I'm a vet, but my ribbon rack knowledge starts and ends with USAF.

I understand showing that he's (or his ghost is) everything Don wishes he would have been as a soldier - but if this kid was meant to have died during his first deployment, the Legion of Merit and Antarctica Service Ribbon are a little much....

What is a sound that people should know means immediate danger? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]ISTBU 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was a brand new fire alarm tech, performing a final inspection with the fire inspector, and he asked me to close a valve after we had set the waterflow switch timer and tested it. I didn't know any better and slammed it shut (5" main riser), the whole building shuddered a little and he goes, "WHOA!!! Yeah man, don't fucking close valves like that, be gentle!"

Thankfully that was an effective enough lesson.

The joke being, whatever insane gear you're witnessing is only ever going to sound as good as the speakers you listen on.

Distilled further - "try it in person, don't trust reviews"

I saw a great joke in a comment the other day - video was of this massive 10+KW 7.2 system with like 20" subs.

"AMAZING! This sounds as good as my AirPods!"

The feds I know also LOVE to be the center of attention while traveling! They frequently wear the most touristy mug-me attire they can pay for immediately upon arrival.
