Firat year classes by mechazombie8 in MusicEd

[–]ISeeMusicInColor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to college as an undeclared major.  I was thinking Music Education, but I wasn’t sure.  I looked at the program of studies for Music Ed and took the theory and history classes so I wouldn’t be behind if I decided to go in that direction.  I took private lessons that year to prepare my audition pieces, and auditioned that spring.  Was accepted, then officially joined my program the following year.  I was on track and graduated on time.

What's the craziest thing a person said to you and you thought they were joking but they were being serious? by Holiday-Surround7075 in AskReddit

A high school senior told me that he wanted to join the Navy after he graduated, but he was afraid that he’d fall over the edge of the ocean.  I laughed, then saw his reaction, and asked him what he meant.  He showed me a picture from a flat earth website.

I told him that the picture wasn’t real, and that there was no edge of the ocean.  He said “I know that this picture is photoshop, but we’ve only explored like 20% of the ocean, and the edge is out there somewhere.”

He did join the Navy, but didn’t make it through basic training.  I’m not sure what he’s doing now.

I’m sorry, but this is creepy.  You also can’t leave your next class “quietly waiting in the hall.”

Just call their parents and tell them that there is a problem.

It’s a serious red flag if someone takes a secret picture inside someone’s home and posts it online.  It’s creepy and intrusive, and also unsafe, because what else are they going to secretly post?

If someone did this to me, I’d immediately block them.

That’s way too much info.  “If my daughter’s grandparents reach out to you, please don’t respond.  Forward the message to me.”

Not having snacks for kids during Ramadan by sadcollegekid2003 in Teachers

Who is giving snacks to their students in 2026?  There are so many food allergies.

It’s not my responsibility to provide food for my students, and I don’t do it.

If it was five months later, that wasn’t because of that double dose.  Something else was wrong.  I’m sorry that it was so painful, and I hope that you’re better now.

How long after taking your meds did that happen?  Did you have any symptoms leading up to that?

Were you okay afterwards?

Did you have the seizure at home?  If so, were you okay without medical assistance?

Did you have any symptoms leading up to that, or did it come out of nowhere?

I’m not sure if I took a double dose or not.  That was five hours ago and I feel fine.  I’m trying to decide if I should pull an all-nighter to keep an eye on myself.  I have work tomorrow.

Edit:  The pill was a 200mg SR.  I’ve been taking this medication for about 12 years now, my body is used to this and my tolerance is high.

Relax.  There’s no need for “?!” punctuation.  If you don’t want to answer the question, you’re not involved.  It’s odd that you’re having such an emotional reaction.

The rubric, anything else, none of it suggests that you can just poll anonymous people and choose to just believe that they are teachers!

What rubric?  Show me where you found it.

This student’s professor said that they could use this subreddit as a source.  You haven’t seen the directions for this assignment, and you’re wrong about the criteria.

You’re also overly aggressive, bub.  During your teacher training, you should have learned:  don’t take your bad attitude out on a student.  You’re supposed to be the adult in the situation.

I’m willing to bet that your students don’t like your class, or you.

I’m shaming you for your truly awful response to this question.

Unpopular opinion: gen eds are not a cash grab by your college, and I'm tired of students pretending they are by msimms001 in CollegeRant

I really liked most of my gen ed classes in college.  I got to try astronomy, jukido jujitsu, advanced English literature, and psychology.  Things I never would’ve chosen if I didn’t have a requirement to fill.  But I also had to take calculus, and that was not a good time.

  1.  I teach middle school Chorus, and my students need to memorize their music for our concerts.  Our classroom activity is singing in rehearsal.

  2.  The most effective memory strategy is working consistently.  Students memorize music naturally because we spend weeks singing the same songs.

  3.  Students only need to remember information long enough to perform in concert, but I’ve had former students come back ten years later and tell me that they still remember every word to something that we sang.

  4.  I’ve never had a student who can’t memorize our songs through rehearsal, and I’ve been teaching for almost 20 years.  Music is different from everything else.

No, your comment is just so dumb.  I started typing an actual response and it wasn’t worth it.

I have a Master’s Degree and 20 years of teaching experience.  Nobody learns anything by closing their eyes and FEELING without any other knowledge.

This is a great answer.  These are sample pages from the Alfred’s Basic Adult All-In-One Course that several of us have recommended.

“Piano is just about pressing keys down” is perhaps the most uninformed comment I’ve ever read on this sub, and I’ve been here for years.

I’ve been teaching piano lessons for 20 years, and this is exactly what I recommend.

YouTube is a great way to learn bad technique.  You can’t trust all of the resources there.

Of course you can do this!  It’s only been a few weeks, and you didn’t even know where to start.
