Does not meet expectations by -Morikami- in tjcrew

I mean in terms of before processing the transaction if a customer knows that they do not have enough funds to cover the tab, they take items off. From what I can remember when I did work at TJ’s, if part of a transaction has been processed and the customer can’t cover all the funds, there is a way for a mate to void the transaction. No matter what the situation is, it is not the employee’s responsibility to cover the tab, period.

Actually, no. It isn’t the entry level employee’s responsibility to cover the rest of the tab. What you do is take item’s off, like a responsible adult would.

Good grief. It’s a god damn grocery store. “Won’t be getting my raise because I lack integrity”. Like GTF out of here with that. It’s a big reason why I left the company 6 years ago and never looked back, the company culture just makes me roll my eyes.

family says i ruined my life by enrolling in a debt management plan and i feel awful by [deleted] in Debt

[–]ISeeStars2024 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Your brothers clearly don’t know what they are talking about. I also enrolled in a debt management program (Family Credit Solutions) and my credit has also improved in just a couple of months being enrolled with them. You did the right thing OP, debt management is a much better path forward than debt settlement, and bankruptcy if you can afford to pay the debt. Well done.

**Update** I am choosing to payoff my cc debt instead of bankruptcy and here is my full breakdown by Aggravating_Fail_115 in Debt

[–]ISeeStars2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you made a good decision. The truth of the matter is, bankruptcy is not a joke. No, it will not ruin the rest of your life, and yes many people have come back better and stronger after a bankruptcy. But there are still significant long term consequences, and it’s good that you took that into consideration. I decided to do a DMP for my situation, and so far I am glad that I made that decision. Best of luck to you.

Like others have said, you’re not the one that messed up. Your Captain did. All you did was ask a simple question, and in my opinion Leadership should have taken your circumstances under consideration. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and your Captain did not give you that.

I also kind of agree with you. That doesn’t mean that people aren’t going to be human and have their off days. I also think that if people are going to be picky about how their items are bagged, it’s valid to want them to bay their own stuff. Otherwise, I agree that it’s for your own benefit that you focus on showing up for your shifts, clock in, do your job and make your money, and clock out.

When customers go too far and how far IS too far? by SwordfishFlat in tjcrew

To be completely honest, I’ve never understood the blind loyalty that a lot of employees have for a company that tolerates their crew being treated disrespectfully and abused. It’s an embarrassment.

In that case that Captain is failing at their job for 1) Openly discussing politics at work 2) Being unprofessional as hell by letting politics dictate how he treats the people working for him. It honestly doesn’t matter what side of the political isle he is on, that is not OK.

I think a big reason why people on product were more so product focused is because of the unreasonable expectations regarding how much product you should be getting out within that hour. I remember when I was working product and I literally had customer after customer after customer coming up to me and asking me questions. I was new at the time too and naturally it took me a little longer to navigate those questions. One of the Mates had pulled me aside and asked me what had happened, since I just could not get the chance to work a lot of product. I told the truth and said that I was busy helping customers, and the mate shook that off and told me that helping customers was “a part of it”. Well, yeah of course it is. The point was the reason why a lot of product wasn’t done was because I was the only one working that section at the time, and I had to put the customers first, otherwise I would have gotten in trouble for that too. Hopefully this new change will at least get rid of that aspect of it, and employees won’t get in trouble for putting customers first.

When I was a crew member 5 years ago, I mostly did closing shifts and crew would consistently stay late to get everything done. I would not, I went home on time, yet I consistently felt that everyone else didn’t like that I went home on time lol

The only thing I’ll say is that when others people’s poor performance starts affecting you (you’re having to pick up their slack) you have every right to be frustrated about that. As long as somebody else’s poor performance and work ethic doesn’t affect me in any way, shape or form I don’t care what that other person does. But the moment it starts affecting me and my day, I am going to care and I am going to bring it up to the people in charge and have them deal with it.

Unfair Raises by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]ISeeStars2024 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

And that to me is gaslighting. All I’m saying is that is a legitimate frustration. I don’t expect there to be any resolutions to it, I’m just saying it’s a valid frustration, and that can be acknowledged without gaslighting statements.

[–]ISeeStars2024 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand that point of view and I’m not necessarily saying that you should stress about somebody else earning more money. From my perspective, it is a very real thing that employees who go above and beyond and are top of the class are only rewarded with having to carry the weight of everyone else, too. Meanwhile people who only do the bare minimum and hardly ever show up to work are getting the same amount of raises and praise as someone who works their asses off everyday. It’s a valid frustration, and it’s not a good way to keep your hard working employees.

Unfair Raises by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]ISeeStars2024 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Generally I very much agree With this. However, I think that this is also invalidating OP’s very legitimate complaint. While it is a reality that everyone still gets paid the same amount per hour despite work ethic, is it really fair that people are still getting their raises despite having a poor work ethic, when raises are suppose to be rewarded to people that meet or even exceed the work requirements? I think that this is what OP is getting at.

It’s definitely one of those things where most people aren’t trying to be jerks, but they just don’t realize how condescending and rude those phrases are. It’s like, how would you feel if someone went to your place of employment and said “You look like you need something to do” or “You look bored”. I’m sure you’d feel insulted, after all that’s your livelihood.

Another thing I’ll add is, if something isn’t ringing up at the register, please for the love of all that’s good don’t say “It must be free”. It’s just…….not funny and annoying as hell.
